I first read the words "meritocracy misogyny" in this letter from Mozilla against Gamergate. Having never heard this phrase before, I decided to look it up on google.

I was shocked and disgusted by what I read, and that a company with such influence as Mozilla would buy into it.

From Geek Feminism.org:

On the surface, [meritocracy is] a completely fair, non-sexist, open concept. Anyone can get in, anyone can progress, as long as they are good enough. That's very, very rarely true.

Generally, at best, a meritocracy turns very quickly into a merit-and-confidence/pushiness-ocracy. Good work doesnt win you influence, good work thats pushed in others faces, or at the very least, good work of which others are regularly reminded wins you influence. And thats where women fall down. In short: meritocracy benefits not only those with skill and ability, but with the self-confidence to demonstrate their skill publicly and demand recognition for it. And self-confidence is highly gendered.

So let me get this straight. Now we need to push for more equality to balance out women's lack of assertiveness? The irony in this statement is that it both agrees with TRP's principles that self-confidence is high gendered, while asserting that woman should be treated as special snowflakes for it.

The comments in Geek Feminism Wiki are even more cringeworthy:

This pushiness/ego/self-aggrandisement is something that women are generally discouraged from doing...An organizational culture which promotes meritocracy results in greater inequality.

Part of being successful in life is going after what you want. Men have lived and died by it for thousands of years. If you want to make it as a woman in a man's world, play the game the right way. Stop reworking the system. If this is what modern feminism is about, get ready for certain companies to fail when they can't meet their bottom line because they promoted people out of "feelings."
