I felt that this was the best place to post this, since other forums avoid some of these issues

I am a married guy, and I have a female friend in her early 30s. She is sweet, intelligent, has a good career and graduate degree, and is cute. She is cultured and very active in her social life. But she is also very picky about men she dates, and has really high standards (not a bad thing)

So she likes this one guy a LOT. They have been friends for some time now, but it has never turned into anything romantic. He has said to me on more than one occasion that he wants to find a nice girl he can marry and have kids with. So I recently responded with "there is a nice girl here right now". But he said something to the effect of "no, no ...wouldn't work"

So they continue to hang out together, have fun, etc. --neither of them dating anyone. So again brought this up to him, and he said "I would never date a girl the smokes pot. It is a deal-breaker. She drinks a bit too much as well"

I was like "dude, she doesn't drink much at all, and she never smokes pot around me"

him: "nope, it is a dealbreaker"

She can't understand why this guy hasn't made a romantic move towards her, and I don't have the heart to tell her.

I guess there is a lesson in her somewhere, but it is tragic
