32 here; completely agree. Pretend that you're going to be single forever and make plans according to that. Money is important, so plan for a career. Make friends, travel, take classes, learn hobbies, learn to cook wonderful food for yourself.

Dating at 18 is a waste of time. Worse, it might get in the way of personal growth, pursuing career plans or your dreams. Develop more social skills with friends, flirt a little with guys if you want practice, but most men you'll meet for the next 7 odd years will not be worth the hassle.

You've got so much to focus on right now and dudes are last on that list. Dudes are always last on that list tbh. Vibrators and cats seems like a much better option.

I never worried about dating at 18, but I did feel pressure from family to date. For years I didn’t bring any men to meet my family, and I waited til I was 30 to have children. No one in my family has waited that long to have their first child. I might not have had any, but that’s another story. Anyway, I credit my success to waiting to have a child and dating sporadically. Even now, being divorced for three years, and single the past two, my money has grown 20k, and I’ve advanced in my career. I literally look at men as providers ONLY. A man literally has to pay me for my time. I still shake down my ex from time to time (unrelatedly to child support) for money and services. I do it to every man lol!

Being 18 is an exciting time. Your life is open ended and has so many possibilities. It’s loads more fun to have your time be yours. Meet lots of new people, grow into whatever you want to be, and do it all without a man holding you back. For a while I was also terrified of getting stds in college. So I went and bought some sex toys lol and filled my free time with tons of hobbies that made me happier than any guy could!

At your age, you should be focusing on your own personal enrichment - education, career, and building toward a happy, independent future. Break the cycle of the generations of young women before you who were conditioned to prioritize pleasing men. Men will always be there. You can and should prioritize investing in yourself. Your future self and future children (should you choose to have them) will thank you.

I think we’re in a similar place. Something VERY important is that you’ve probably been dating what are basically children. Teenage and young adult guys in general won’t have the same grasp on things that young women do. See the entirety of this sub for examples.

This is really the time to be focusing on yourself and enjoy being young. Messing around with guys can be fun, so don’t be afraid of that if it’s something you want, but it’s not something to rush into. My advice: just don’t worry about it. I might go with your plan though haha

You are right, but don’t get depressed about it! You are so lucky to have found FDS at this age! Study it and the book list etc and you will avoid so many bad experiences, increasing your chances of succeeding in life and also love later on.

I had this mindset and I wasn’t even looking to be in a relationship, but then the right guy came along organically. Best advice is to focus on you and your growth, don’t bother wasting time on dating websites or whatever especially when you’re young. When you’re older, if you want a man that’d be the time to start looking proactively imo.

Honestly, it’s not worth it, especially at a young age. Personally I stopped dating in the last 3 years and have had 2 boyfriends, both of whom fell into my lap when I wasn’t on dating apps or “looking” to date/have a bf. That’s the only way I plan on having a relationship going further! It either happens “to” me (lol) or I stay happily single focusing on myself. I’m 26 but yeah don’t bother when you are young. I already have a master’s degree and am well travelled and only fart around with dudes who also have accomplished what I have and can keep up!

I was online dating after I got dumped by an LVM and while I had fun it never led to anything. I wasted years on random dating. I'm 34 and last year I was finally able to find fulfillment in my friendships and family and was comfortable being single and childfree for the rest of my life. I ended up meeting a guy at an event and we really hit it off. He's what I want in a partner. This only happened because I decided that I would rather be single than in bad company forever so I didn't just jump in out of desperation. I have explained this mindset to him and he knows he's got to put in the work for me to stay since I don't fear being alone. I 100% agree with everything you've said. This is the best strategy in my opinion.

Edit: My age because for some reason I thought I was 32.
