Marital status importance for a woman is garbage alright. Also what's stupid is taking his last name as if he was my identity now, and my old one was invalidated. I'm a new man's property, time to change all of the documents to claim new ownership and make all of the academic achievements, titles and publications with old surname attached completely worthless! Despite me being the same person. Because who cares about that useless garbage anyway when I have a MAN. I mean he has me, because only my title in relationship matters to the world. And that's supposed to be the most important thing to me now, because what else could I possibly need when I have this abundant and low value resource.

Also hilarious how they slap their surnames on kids too despite doing minority of caring for them and being barely involved. Not being able to instantly know they are his, unlike the mother. But how else are we supposed to care for them if they're not attached to any man?

I talk about this and think about this all the time! It seems very sexist and old fashioned that this is still a thing in 2020. I mean if they've added new genders to forms we should be easily able to remove Mrs. and Miss from existence. How do we change this??

None of those honorifics specifically differentiate between being married, divorced, or widowed. Mrs is used for all three.

Edit: Stop downvoting me, ladies. I'm not arguing about the validity of the tweet's overall message. I agree with it, which is why we have the honorific Ms, which does not indicate marital status, just like Mr.

I am only pointing out the tweet's inaccuracy in stating that Ms applies to widows. It can, of course, but the way the tweet is written, it implies that Ms is the default honorific for widows, when it is not.

The original tweeter does not seem to understand that Ms is the honorific that women came up with so their marital status remains unknown, just like the male honorific Mr. Again, I'm not disputing the overall message - just pointing out the inaccuracies contained therein.
