Utah is very clearly a whole other thing entirely. It's dominated by a religion that isn't practiced many other places, is famous for abusive sex cults, and has fringe religions either directly influencing authorities or just outright infiltrating and taking over the kind of governing bodies that'd stop them. The sexual dynamics at play are very clearly held hostage by other, larger issues that aren't really replicated anywhere else.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that your average Utah resident averages a little less than 2 sexual partners per lifetime so I don't think this is going to affect anybody's lives there in a meaningful way

Consent laws were put in place to reduce the ambiguity in the event one party does claim they were assaulted. If you want to protect yourself, make sure your partner is fully willing and able, and if you’re not willing and able, voice it to the extent that you can without further endangering your safety. From this POV, I understand the idea of teaching consent. You’re basically saying if you want to be an adult and do adult things, be an adult and make sure everyone involved knows what’s going on and know what could potentially happen to you if you don’t.

Much like if you chose to drink, you take on the responsibility of knowing the laws about drinking alcohol and what the punishment is should you violate those laws. “I didn’t know” is not an excuse.

I don’t think teaching consent is about “teaching men it’s not OK to rape.” I don’t think that has ever been the issue.

What was in the curriculum? Personally, I'm against consent classes because the consent class my college forced the school to take treated all men like rapists, never showing an example of females being abusive, and then told me I was wrong when I answered a hypothetic question that a friend needs to go to the police after confessing she was raped.Apparently, we combat rape with milk and cookies, not with Justice.

EDIT: Doesn't Utah already teach Comprehensive Sex Ed? Because despite Utah being a conservative state, they have one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates.

EDIT 2: Okay, taking time to think about it. You guys are treating them like rape apologists, but that's not the case. Their perspective is that teenagers need to say no to ALL OF IT. Doesn't matter if someone says "If you love me, have sex with me...", "If you don't fuck me, I'll kill myself", "I deserve to fuck you because I paid for the meal", say no TO ALL OF IT. Dont let ANYONE touch you sexually until they're willing to commit and marry you.

EDIT 3: What should have been the better argument is "A man can still abuse his wife (and vice versa), and we need to teach children how to love and respect their spouses instead of treating their spouse as property in the future".

Unpopular opinion: it's not the public education system's job to teach people about their private or personal lives. Sex is part of people's personal lives, and why the government doesn't want to subsidize families or contraception. If people can't at least take responsibility for these things within their families or on their own, then natural selection will weed people out.

Also, teaching consent is kind of pointless because people will learn about it eventually anyway.
