First of all, I don't mean to say that there are not many wonderful fathers out there. There are great fathers and terrible mothers.

However, I think that fatherhood is a social construct. Early humans didn't even have the concept of fatherhood and just raised the child as a community. Just look at the Mosuo where the biological father doesn't even exist in the kid's life and the kid is raised by a community of people.

Even in the nuclear family, fathers spending a lot of time with the kids is a recent phenomenom. Traditional fathers often didn't even touch their own kids.

Fathers who spend more time with their kids also have a lower testosterone.

I am not saying that assuming the role of an active father is not admirable, it is. However, it's a socially constructed role and has nothing to do with how humans were originally living.
