She wanted an amicable divorce, she said. Best for the kids, she said. Maybe we can still be friends, or even get back together later, she said.

This is what she meant by amicable. I quote:

  • 60/40 asset split, in her favor

  • $4700 a month in spousal support

  • for life

  • so she can still live in the marital home with the kids

  • child support as mandated by my state

  • rated as if I have them only 1/3 of the time, when in actuality I have them 1/2 of the time

  • plus I pay 90% of their extracurriculars

  • plus I still pay for 1/2 of their daily expenses

I have learned that by "amicable", she means "bend over and pay me, support my lifestyle of not working even though the kids are 1/2 my responsibility and your own living expenses have increased".

I was willing to meet her more than half way. For the kids. But she so over crossed the line with unamicable demands that now we're so far past amicable that the mediator strongly suggested that we just never talk to each other ever again, only as minimally necessary.

Like, in what fucking world do you think you deserve 60/40 asset split? When I made all of the money and you made none of it? How do you wake up in the morning and simultaneously think both thoughts of "let's be friends/you owe me 60% of what you alone earned".

So, see you in court. You've already lost your demand for spousal support, so let's keep going. And it is too bad for the kids, but I don't feel like you've left me any option. Just like you did when our marriage was ending--I did my best to try to hold it together, against all extremity, and it just wasn't enough for you until you found my end.
