It's a great movie. I thought most of the stuff was basic like making sure you wear the right kind of fit clothes, Work towards physical fitness, Knowing how to make someone thing you are the deal( By making the other person work on impressing you).

Watched it two days ago because I saw it recommended in this sub. You can definitely take a few things away from the movie, but the fact that he was fighting for a woman who cheated on him ruined it for me. Why? The twist at the end when they're all in the backyard had me crying from laughter though!

On the same thread I saw the movie recommended I saw "Yes Man" and "The Secret Life of Walter Smitty" were also mentioned which I really recommend as well. Those had an impact on me.

.... the way that Ryan's character dispenses with all of that with a simple introduction carried with confidence I thought was worth remarking.

A lot of coaches talk about this stuff. David Wygant has been talking about using observations to open people for awhile now. (Though this is a newer video I'm linking to because it's succinct.)

But yeah, that "simple introduction," was more than simple, in a way. He was paying attention to what they were talking about, and used that as he opened. They were talking about Conan O'Brien and he directly referenced that as he opened with his question, "Who looks like a carrot?" He jumped right into their conversation, and THEY literally supplied the material he needed for the damn opener!

It really is that easy. People literally provide all the material one really needs to open them and even to hold the conversation after it's started.

We kind of know this when we're little kids. We just "learn" things as we grow up that lead to us over-complicating shit.

It's always been a sort of spiritual successor to Fight Club for me, as far as the social dynamics goes. Really good flick, and Ryan Gosling/Emma Stone is such a great duo on screen.

One of the big questions the movie raises, relevant to this sub, is if a seductive man is vile.

Ryan's character is not presented as vile initially; Steve's character seeks to emulate him. But after the twist ending, Steve clearly reviles and has contempt for Ryan. Was that a fair change of perspective on Steve's part? Does Ryan disregard women, or is he just not vulnerable to them? Is cad behavior acceptable in the abstract, and contemptuous when close to home? Or is that actually obsolete thinking?

A lot of this is from the notion that women are somehow "hurt" or "taken advantage of" as in they're being exploited when they have sex, and therefore casual sex means that they have given something away too cheaply. That's rather antiquated thinking, in that sex is not a finite quantity, and you don't have less of it for the more that you give.

I dont know about how everybody else feels about it. But I would NEVER take a chick back after she cheated on me. There's such a complete disregard for you as a man and a human being. Plus the deceitfulness is a huge indicator of toxic traits and mentality in her. No thanks bro, wife or not.

I liked it. The only thing that really bugged me is when Carrell rejects the method that transformed him into a more desirable man. The same thing happened in Hitch. It would’ve made more sense to accept the role that seduction played in personal development.
