I can’t stand how men try to say they are just as afraid of being attacked as women are

Every time a woman says, “I wish I could walk alone and not fear for my life” a man has to chime in and say “men are scared to do that, too.”

They don’t understand that it’s literally incomparable. They say it’s irrational and ridiculous that we feel our hearts racing and think of an exit plan when we’re walking somewhere alone at night and a lone man is walking close to us. They say they’re also scared of being attacked or raped just like us, as if they walk back to their cars with keys between their knuckles or look underneath their car to see if someone is going to slice their achilles and kidnap them. I am always on edge when I’m alone, and I just know men are not.

It makes me so mad that they think this is the same, that men are just as scared of other men as women are. I wish they knew what it felt like.

Edit to add: I’m not saying men can’t be scared to walk alone at night or that they are not likely to be victims of crime. However, anything a man is a scared of, a woman is scared of and then some. Men might be scared of being robbed, women are scared of being robbed and raped, etc. And let’s not forget catcalling and wondering how we’re going to react to it to best avoid being attacked, which men almost never face.

Idk how y’all can read any of the comments from women feeling the exact same and still message me telling me I need therapy for being anxious. And the comments from trans women are the best proof that this is valid and very enlightening.
