Inspired to write this up due to this exchange in another RPW thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/RedPillWomen/comments/34tiix/how_do_you_deal_with_this_common_situation/cqxx5tu
I'll keep it as short and sweet as possible: like many little girls and young women, I grew up being told how I was very bright, very friendly, very likeable, very talented, very funny, etc by men. And, like most little girls and young women, I believed it. I knew I came from bright parents and was good at art, so I assumed they were being genuine. Until kind of recently.
Basically, a while ago I had an opportunity to spend some time socializing with people I would never meet in real life and didn't depend on for work (a sort of conference/chatroom for private tutors and homeschooling parents). I didn't really need to be involved in this any more, but I couldn't unsubscribe. So, to test a theory, I decided to put on a bit of an act.
I made a point of speaking more like a teenager and less like an adult. Interposing terms such as "like", "um", "totally", "wow" and "awesomesauce" at random intervals even where not relevant, laughing as though my mind had gone a bit blank, quoting random TV characters, etc.
I also just acted nervous and went very quiet if anyone complained about anything I said or called me out on something rubbish I'd said. Basically no effort to defend myself or anything I said, just speaking for the sake of speaking and acting like nobody had ever told me "no".
I spent a lot of the time checking my phone, didn't make any reference to my education or skillsets. I didn't mention any hobbies other than "going out".
However, after a couple of weeks, I was still getting the same sort of compliments from the men that I got at university, high school or in casual and work settings.
"You're smart."
"You must be very bright, going into this."
"You're an interesting person, I'd like to get to know you better."
"You're fun."
In short, the same general compliments I'd get when I was just being myself, I still get when I am acting as dull, dim and annoying as possible. Possibly a bit less frequently, but they kept coming.
In conclusion, yes, some men may actually find you interesting, funny or bright. Some will admire you for your smarts and your talents and the other things you could add to their life. On the other hand, not every guy will. If you were a man, he might not even think of saying such things. If you were a lot dimmer, he might be even more flattering. He could be honest, he could be being overly kind or he could be after something. But if a man is throwing about flattery like that, don't automatically assume it's sincere.
