It's still not really equal. Men die younger, so to make it equal you'd have to have men retiring younger.

This argument doesn't make any sense. Prepare for what? There;'s no time needed to prepare, now women just keep working like normal, just like men have to. It's not a 'historic injustice' to make something equal that was unfair to begin with.

If anything, it could be argued that men should be compensated for all the years of extra work paying for women's earlier retirement.

Agreed! It's absolute injustice. Men should be able to retire earlier. The retirement "age" being equal is meaningless. The retirement "period" should be the made equal, because men die sooner than women do.

I discussed this w/ two female friends of mine.

Friend 1 agrees that the compensation scheme is nonsense. Compensating the privileged party goes against the idea of making it equal and she does think it should be equal.

Friend 2 supports this and thinks that women should retire early. Her argument: "Women work less hours when they are younger as they take care of kids so they should be able to retire early". Not exaggerating or misrepresenting. Her argument was that since women work less hours they should be able to work less hours. When I texted back how her argument makes no sense, she had no reply. That is the feminist mindset.

Contrary to what some would have you believe, IMO there is not a (on average) a more privileged class in the western world, than white women. They live longer healthier lives, have more legal rights, more legal protections (in particular in family court), fewer responsibilities, graduate college at higher rates, are allowed more free expression, suffer less from crime, and face less legal consequences for wrongdoing than any other class. Granted this isn't true across the board but on the whole yes. In the UK, this appears to be more true. Could you imagine the laughter you would hear were a comparable man to demand the same compensation for men in the UK?

And this is not to denigrate white women and their challenges in life, they certain face many. It's just on average the deck is stacked in their favor.

Women outlive men by years and and the same time, they retire early. Pensions, often the most heavy burden on a country, are designed mostly for men to support elderly women.

the pensions issue was raised in the mid 90s and the EU bought in a ruling to correct it. women had 20 plus years to compensate for taking more and paying less

even my own mother was smart to take action and correct it... 25 years ago.

so NO way . tough luck you had long enough to deal with it.

I understand why

Whilst im all for the equal retirement age, this can and will effect alot of families. Which is why they want to compensate for it.

Its more an idea of ensuring familys stay stable at this point.
