I was all ready to accuse you of getting unduly bent out of shape over a light hearted article.

Then I read the article.

What utter tripe it is, labelling us as sleep stealers, tarring us all with the same ineptitude of her husband’s inability to move quietly at night. Saying that men don’t have to manage as many roles as women. She’s got me on the snoring front though. But I can’t actually help that. And if I could, I would!

Women lose sleep in the way they lose lots of things - and instead lie there and worry about our failures because they spend so much time trying fulfil so many more roles than men in a day and know they are judged on all of them

Thee number of times when men wake up shivering because someone has taken all the blankets or are disturbed by snoring are minimal. Men barrel in, disturbing our rest – even if they are trying not to – because they move through life never properly being taught what it is to put yourself out in the service of another’s comfort or ease

This article is straight up Victorian.

I’m a female who doesn’t get good sleep. It’s not my boyfriend’s fault. It’s the fact that sleeping in the same room or bed with any person is hard. He knows how hard it is for me to fall asleep and how easy it is for me to wake up. This dude will literally go to extreme lengths to be quiet, but I’ll still wake up. Not his fault at all. I also go to the same lengths for him. I’m the one that snores loud and wakes him up. I feel bad about that. I do lay awake with my mind racing about any and everything, but how is that singular to women? We are both blanket hogs and recognize that. The solution is for us each to have our own blanket. Easy.

I hope this article was a joke.

I never hear of men losing sleep in this way. And there are many other examples. I don’t hear of men waking up shivering because someone has taken all the blankets.

This was literally me in my last relationship. My ex was great, but for some reason all her self-awareness evaporated the moment I was sleeping. She'd slam the fridge, climb into bed like Chris Farley doing a cannonball, and snore like a MF. I swear she thought the darkness muffled her sounds.

Anyway, my point is that this woman is taking her own individual experiences and warping them into needlessly gendered generalizations, based on nothing but feelings.

The funniest thing is that the author is a pretty mainstream, bang in the centre feminist. Despite that, many feminist will swear to heavens that this kind of blatant misandry is non existent and that nobody ever holds such views.

The only time it's a guy's fault that my sleep is disturbed is when my very drunk brother calls me to tell me things about pokemon. Even my bf snoring is not an issue (and if it was, ear plugs exist) The blanket stealing is all me.

I can already see women from all over begin to add this into their arsenal of attacks to throw in men's faces to tell us how horrible we are as people. Truth is, she was in bed before him, so she was already ahead of him on sleep. And I'm going to tell you there are women that can peel the paint off the walls they snore so loudly. And if she worked as hard as she says she does fulfilling so many roles then she would probably sleep more soundly, sounds like possibly a case of not being tired enough. When I come home wore out, her climbing the stairs, getting undressed, and passing gas won't bother me. The light from the phone and the snoring (light snoring isn't bad) are understandable.

I recall a study on this, which came to an interesting pair of conclusions: women sleep much better when they are sharing a bed with someone, men sleep much better when they are in bed alone.

The obvious answer if this woman doesn't like sharing a bed is not to share a bed with her [the same applies to any woman who doesn't like it, you'll sleep much better on your own]. I'm sure she'd find another way to blame men on her inability to sleep after that though.
