I hope he went to get help at the nearest men's domestic violence shelter. I mean, it is an 8 hour flight, but its important he gets help.

[–]Spooms2010 60 points61 points62 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

This is typical of what happens in Australia. There are virtually no men’s support groups anywhere in country Victoria that I know about. It’s really awful the way men are treated by the police when we are assaulted. Unless it’s a really serious crime, the men are not taken seriously and the male victim still gets the raw end of the stick.

[–]kronaz 83 points84 points85 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If it's anything like the US, "Help officer, I was assaulted!"

"Okay sir, we're just going to remove you from the home while everyone cools off. We don't care where you go, but you can't stay at your own home."

"But she's the aggressor!"

"Sir, you're under arrest for violating the cooldown period!"

Hooray!

[–]MrGuttFeeling 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

More like:

...

"But she's the aggressor!"

BLAM! BLAM!

"SHOTS FIRED! SUSPECT DOWN!"

[–]kalitarios 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Til the suspect was black?

[–]frosty95 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had cops try this on me when my roommates girlfriend flipped her lid. I laughed and said "Not a chance in hell I'm leaving guys. I own this house and this property. She doesn't even live here. So she can either leave willingly or I'm pressing charges and you can remove her. Either way she's the one leaving" assholes made me bring proof I owned the house so I grabbed my last mortgage payment.

[–]MustakaThinks breakfast food is gay sex 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think fixing the domestic violence issue for men in australia should not be addressed until you cunts fix your murderous serial killer animal problem.

[–]Spooms2010 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Watch your mouth - or well send over one of our Drop Bears to deal with you!! We have agents all around the world - (when they’re not pissed off their fucking faces!!)

[–]MrGuttFeeling 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you send over Crocodile Dundee like when he comes over in the movie? He can then proceed to go through a bunch of slap-stick incidents to show the humour and differences between cultures.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fucking drop bears. Thats scary as fuck(af) no matter how cut they are!

[–]BobDoleWasAnAlien 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Didn't Australia start the whole mens shed thing? It's massive over there as far as I know.

[–]Spooms2010 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, the men’s shed thing is huge. And there is one in the local small town. Unfortunately they are not equipped to deal with domestic violence against men, where the man had to move out of the house, etc. Also, mental illness is hugely underfunded here and predominantly privately run at massive costs.

[–]throw-away_cuz_ynot 48 points49 points50 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In my health class last semester we had someone from a womens shelter come and give a speech. During the q&a a guy asked if there was anywhere men could go if they suffered from domestic abuse. She looked kind of stunned for a second and didn't know what to say. Then she finally said it, "no."

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I planned to live in my truck for a while when I left an abusive woman.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thanks to current year every man just needs to self identify as a woman.

Lots to shelters then.

[–]Evla183 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You may be joking but I legitimately knew a few people who had to claim being trans to get any help at all It's absolutely ridiculous

[–]bsutansalt 146 points147 points148 points 7 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

He said she didn't injure him per se, their altercation caused injuries from a mountain biking accident to reopen.

He also blamed the assault on her having wine and it interacting with her meds. Somehow I doubt "the alcohol made me do it" would be an acceptable excuse if it was a guy who beat up his wife, meds or no meds.

[–]DoctorDank 48 points49 points50 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You miss the entire point of what /u/beachbbqlover was saying...

[–]GrizzlyLeatherBut I dindu nuffin!!! 26 points27 points28 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I was surprised to hear there's even 1 facility 8 hours away.

[–]Kyocus 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

8 hour flight. Implies there may be a handful in the world.

[–]MrGuttFeeling 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They're in some of those "librul" cities.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So a 4 hour flight is half way around? Math is fun!

[–]sa_sagan 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love a PPD as much as the next guy, but from memory when this first came out he said he called the authorities to help her, not him. She was causing harm to herself and he may or may not have been injured trying to help her. However they either misunderstood the request or didn't care and just arrested her for domestic violence.

I can't find the original source I read last week, so if I'm mistaken; I hope she'll be punished accordingly (we know it won't happen though).

[–]bplboston17 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it annoys me that police and people in general dont take woman on men violence seriously, they are always like there a men they should defend themselves, its like when you see a man hit a woman in public several people step in and try to stop it, but if people see a woman hitting a man in public nobody calls the police, nobody tries to stop it, they just laugh. Its a huge double standard.

[–]Ubaralook 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I feel awful for laughing at this

[+]Mechanon841 points 7 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Did you actually laugh? Like, literally out loud? In real life I mean.

[–]StarkweatherRoadTrip"I cut my teddy bear a butthole and fucked it from 12-15" 32 points33 points34 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did, but dark jokes are like DV shelters, they are not for everyone.

[–]Ubaralook 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A sensible chuckle may be a more apt description

[–]FruitierGnome 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Dark humor is not for everyone.

[–]Mechanon841 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I get dark humor. It just didn't seem as much a joke as it was pointing out something shitty in a sort of humorous way. Not like a joke that you would laugh at though.

[–]Sp33d0J03 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Relax.

[–]bubble085 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Good job this didn’t happen here in the UK, because there aren’t any shelters for men. (As far as I’m aware)

[–]sparkyjay23 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The Refuge Charity

Support for men

You may be visiting this site because you are, or think you might be, experiencing domestic violence. Most domestic violence is directed at women, but men can be abused too, in both heterosexual and gay relationships. It is important to realise that you are not alone. Refuge – and many other organisations – are here to help you.

So it doesn't fit the US Experience at all. Its not perfect but don't go round making life worse by spreading bullshit to vulnerable victims.

[–]bubble085 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What I ACTUALLY said was, “as far as I’m aware” I didn’t state it was a fact did I? And in this case, clearly I wasn’t aware that such charities existed in the UK.

As for your comments, I don’t see how me being wrong about something, is me “going around making life worse by spreading bullshit” you quite simply could have pointed out I was wrong, and I’d have gladly admitted so.

I think you responding to me with such an aggressive tone, by accusing me of making life worse for victims and spreading bullshit, because of a single comment I’ve made, is actually a case of YOU making life worse for society, by being just another quick to anger, overly aggressive person, who would rather start an argument that a discussion. It’s actually easy to not be a cunt, you should try it some time.

Have a nice day.

1 day less than a year (a misdemeanor charge)

[–]stephen89 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No doubt done on purpose, like when the far-left judges give immigrants 364 day sentences so they aren't felons and marked for deportation.

[–]handklap 323 points324 points325 points 7 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link

This is a Pussy Pass, not PPD.

  • She still gets to keep her job.
  • No one cares.
  • Charges will be dropped to basically nothing
  • Reverse the genders and compare. His career would be officially over and there would be a huge swell of social media to punish the guy harshly.

Unless his name is Chris Brown.

[–]Spacejams1 46 points47 points48 points 7 years ago* (17 children) | Copy Link

Chris Brown gets vilified every single day for it. He still has a career because his fan base isn't made up of upper-middle class liberal white women

[–]kronaz -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

His audience is mostly made up of inner-city wife-beaters, so it kinda makes sense.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Probably yes.

There is always a line of women ready to do whatever for some one famous or rich. They do allow you to grab them by the pussy

Inner city is code for black you bigot

[–]kronaz 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No the fuck it isn't. Keep living in your little fantasy world where everyone's out to get you and none of your problems are your own fault.

[–]Spacejams1 -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

That's not an arguement.

The inner city is majority black pretending you didn't mean black people is being dishonest

[–]kronaz 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're the one making a claim, the burden of proof is on you, kiddo.

Take your professional victimhood to someone who gives a shit.

[–]RetardedMasterChief 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I grew up inner city Detroit and I’m Pakistani. FOH with that

[–]Spacejams1 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you still live in inner city Detroit

[–]RetardedMasterChief 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah I moved out at 14

EDIT: I now live in Hamtramck, less ghetto Detroit but not much better. And I figure you’re going to argue that I moved out because I’m not black, but most of the black people I grew up around left my neighborhood before me.

[–]Robert_Mugabe_ -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No he moved out to a nice area because of the ape-like inner-city types.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope.

It is teenage white boys who are he ones who spend the most on rap and hip hop.

Stating a objective fact that there is more violence in the inner city is not racist...facts are not racist. This is a common fact for any major centre.

The only racist here is you,

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Come on dude, let's be real here.

People would be outside his house chanting #metoo, demanding he be crucified.

[–]Iconoficons 19 points20 points21 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The rules simply do not apply to attractive hot white women and we all know it.

You mean women; her race has nothing to do with it.

[–]handklap 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I somewhat disagree. Yes, all women get a pass when it comes to the police, arrests, sentencing - especially in domestic violence situations however, let's be real here, pretty sorority white princess gets a much larger pass than her female counterparts who are from more 'urban' areas.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Skin colour does not matter...The vagina does.

Attractive women get a bigger pass that ugly women...that is true across all races.

[–]stephen89 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, they don't. And your attempts to pretend white privilege exists is retarded.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

White privilege is all they have left.

Since everything else objectively shows that it does not exist. But shit...let's not talknbaiut those studies...race realism is wrong think,

[–]TheL0nePonderer 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you read the same article as me? She was arrested for domestic violence/assault. That's it. No more info. We don't know to what extent she assaulted someone. It could be something big, it could be something blown out of proportion, but at THIS point, she got her ass arrested and a 50k bond, that's not a pussy pass. And if she continues her career after getting into a domestic altercation with her boyfriend, well, men get to do that all the time.

Stop looking for a reason to bitch. Let's wait for actual details and an actual conviction/lack thereof before we start screaming 'oh, it's a pussy pass!' At this point, any guy in this situation would have also been arrested and bonded out, there's no pussy pass at this point.

A pussy pass would have been if they didn't arrest her, or as often happens, if they arrested the boyfriend when she was actually the perpetrator. This happens so often that it makes it look stupid that you're screaming pussy pass when she was arrested.

http://www.tmz.com/2018/09/17/the-100-star-marie-avgeropoulos-charged-felony-domestic-violence/

Oops this just in.....

1:12 PM PT -- There was a hearing in Marie's case Monday where her lawyer argued Marie's BF has absolutely no interest in pressing charges. He claims he didn't know calling the cops would result in her arrest because similar situations are handled completely differently in Canada -- where he's from.

As for why things looked so bad ... Marie's BF told cops he had previous wounds from a mountain biking incident, and they were reopened during the altercation, which is why cops found blood, the lawyer said in court.

As we reported ... Marie was on new meds and mixed it with wine during dinner that evening, and she had a bad reaction. She's no longer taking those pills.

Marie and her BF still live together in Canada, as they have for the last 3 years. He claims she's never been aggressive or violent, and he doesn't need a protective order because she doesn't pose a threat.

[–]jw8815 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]violetdaze 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed.

[–]xxx_house1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

honestly, i hate the double standard where how if it was him hitting her, his entire life would be turned upside down (jail time, fired from job, social lynching, etc.), but i don't think she (or a man in her place) should spend serious jail time or face any serious repercussions for a first time offense

if she gets off with a light punishment this time, i'd be okay with it - i just want the same standard applied to men

of course this is all assuming the assault actually happened and she really is guilty, which may or may not be the case

[–]Crilbyte 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While I absolutely don't agree with the idea, I think it comes from the fact that people tend to assume women are more defenseless than men so it's more "victimy" still sickening.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my state it is actually fairly common for fist offenders to get probation and mandatory counseling. This only happens if they cooperate with police, do not have a record, did not do serious physical harm, and the assault did not come out of no where (meaning either they were provoked verbally or they were "lightly" attacked and responded with many times more force).

[–]GirthStick 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the first line says felony charges which makes me feel like she’s already in deep. However I’m sure water works (which is a decent tactic when done right because it can often be confused as regret instead of just fear for themselves) and a great lawyer will help

[–]Tygerwoody 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He probably didn't eat the meat.

[–]--Edog-- 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Good thing he didn't try to defend himself. I was almost arrested for assault for defending myself against a gf that was trying to stab me with the metal defense spike she had on her keychain. I was holding her wrist to keep her from stabbing my face.

[–]Tormenting_Memories 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What a fucking stupid court system. She tries to kill you and you almost get arrested? Bullshit.

[–]--Edog-- 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Me: "I asked her to leave my apartment. She flipped out and she attacked me with her keychain. Tried to stab my face." Cop: "But YOU didn't touch HER did you?" Me: "Well, I held her wrist to keep her from stabbing m.." Cop: "No, you DIDN'T touch her, right? Because if you tell me you touched her... I will have to arrest you." Me: "no, I guess I never touched her." (At least he let me off the hook, but seriously? Wtf)

[–]Tormenting_Memories 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Fucking asshole.

[–]--Edog-- 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, the cop was on my side, he was representing the laws of the city - basically a woman cam committ assault and battery on a man, but if he defends himself he gets busted. It was 20 years ago...but I bet the laws haven't changed much. I was shocked. But I never forgot that lesson. If a woman ever gets physical, get out of there asap. If you can afford it hire a lawyer and give a deposition - do not call the police.

[–]Tormenting_Memories 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah I see. That law is so damn retarted.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like the cop was giving you a pass. In many states by law we have to go to jail if we even defend ourselves. The laws are fucked.

[–]natty1212 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

10 day suspended sentence. Nothing goes on her record. Calling it now.

[–]xrudeboy420x 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]jaktyp 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There’s no part of this article that says 4 years. Where did you get that from, OP?

[–]Sav_ij 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pass

[–]Szos 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Let's see how this plays out...

Is she going to falsely claim that he raped her so she can get sympathy?

Is she going to get the most lenient of punishments from the judge because she cries a few crocodile tears and shows some cleavage?

Are people going to rally around her and excuse this shit because she's a "good person" that one time they met her for 5 minutes?

I know what isn't going to happen:

She wont be shunned by her co-workers and the rest of the film industry like would happen if she was a guy.

Dang, I watched “the 100” season 1 but haven’t seen any since, surprised that it’s still running. I liked the premise and the book but CW seemed like it was sticking to its melodramatic teens know everything roots.

[–]RainaaaGrace 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

2 was good. 3 sucked but apparently 4 and 5 were really good. Idk if it’s still running.

This is sad because i really liked her in some shows/movies.
