He and I seemed to have such different understandings of which acts were assumed to be acceptable and which required voiced consent... Yet something else about his asking also made me uneasy. It seemed legalistic and self-protective, imported more from the courtroom than from a true sense of caretaking. And each time he asked, it was as if he assumed I lacked the agency to say no on my own — as if he expected me to say no, not believing that a woman would have the desire to keep saying yes... Because I don’t think many of us would say yes to the question “Is it O.K. if I act like I care about you and then disappear?”

Excessive consent-asking, legalistic ass-covering in the bedroom, acting as if hook-up culture is a thing... Gee, who might have brought such changes, do you think??

Who was it that could have wrought this disappointing and un-fulfilling queefer-madness you chafe against, my good miss Saintly Passive Pureheart McHumblebrag?

Ahh, being a sexually-liberated (but selectively old-fashioned when it suits her) woman just sounds so tough. I Don't Know How She Does It.

(Doesn't a man have any right to fuckin' walk away when he wants to? You'd better believe this chick would walk away from a dude whenever it suited her and it would be "entitlement" for him to express any peep of criticism of her empowered little choices; "you don't own mah bahdeh," etc.)

[+]Bonobophone1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Plus, this quote kind of made me shake my head...

I wish we could view consent as something that’s less about caution and more about care for the other person, the entire person, both during an encounter and after, when we’re often at our most vulnerable.

Look, sex and romance, and life in general, can be painful and difficult. With that said, there is not a man alive who has an obligation to continue to be romantic with anyone. Nor is there a woman. And I bet the author of this piece has blown off plenty of men in her time, or at the very least rejected their romantic advances, perhaps harshly.

We as men are often told that we don't have a right to womens' bodies, time, or romance, and they are absolutely right. But that blade cuts both ways.

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And I bet the author of this piece has blown off plenty of men in her time, or at the very least rejected their romantic advances, perhaps harshly.

Of course. That is her womanly prerogative.

But that blade cuts both ways.

Hah! I point and laugh derisively at your puny, under-developed, obviously sexist male line of reasoning. It could have only originated in a sexist, privilege-drunk, entitlement-addled man-brain.

You don't comprehend what comes so naturally to the (only) Fair Sex: you are required to bow your head, remove your hat and bend your knee when you are in the presence of a woman. A woman to whom you are not entitled to speak, look at or expect anything from whatsoever. You're lucky she doesn't have you beaten up by her free bouncers. Oh, yes-- you're also supposed to drop everything and be her bouncer if you're brawny enough. But don't you dare talk to her while being her bouncer, you're not entitled to do that. If she wants your opinion, she'll tell you what it is.

[–]Mens-Advocate[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some feminists did indeed take their young sons to feminist gatherings but bar them from speaking.

The game is rigged. Men literally can't win.

[–]andejoh 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did the guy not win? If all he wanted to do was bust a nut and he did, wouldn't that be a win for him? I broke up with a woman once and she did that I faked every orgasm thing. I told her that was OK because I faked caring that she had. She was speechless.

[–]Lethn 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You win by not playing and get the sane women out of these matriarchal cults.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ah thats the fucking problem isn't it? Women are creating the game, and making men play the game when they cant win.

Men need to stop playing the game. Tell dumb feminists to shut up. Deny them when they say stupid crap like "consent needs to be explicit and ongoing or I feel disrespected'. Thats when you ghost. Men could have all the power they need to stamp this out, but they're too easily swayed by pussy pandering (white knights, soy boys) to see that playing into the delusional wishes only reinforces more of them.

[–]Mens-Advocate[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Amen.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is the feminists laying the groundwork for a new crime to be brought into law: “Emotional Rape”. You’ll see more and more articles like this one.

[–]fengpi 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not to be confused with "Feelings Rape," which will be prosecuted as a separate category.

[–]FlagrantWrongsDotCom 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can we generically stop allowing every little emotional problem to become blown out of proportion and play on undercurrents of frankly poorly thought out political trends? What happened to adults who could just behave in at least semi reasonable/mature manners?

[–]karatdem 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But then how can feminist blame and criminalize men?

[–]TherapyFortheRapy 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The NYT is just an anti-male hate rag at this point.

[–]karatdem 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Ted8367 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was left thinking that our culture’s current approach to consent is too narrow.

You've really got to hand it to the ladies. Just when I was thinking they could not, positively not, wring any more blood out of the consent turnip, then voilà! ... proved wrong again. I wonder what the legal penalties will be for narrow consent rape.

[–]fengpi 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One day, there will probably be a penalty for a man failing to fulfill a woman's never-voiced rape fantasy with a sufficient level of realism and ardor.

[–]PeruvianRug 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Grabs a young Tinder hot bod, invites him over to her place on their first date and shortly after they go straight to fucking.

And she wonders why she's still single. She wonders why guys are so quick to bail.

You can't say it anymore because it's become taboo. But the truth of it hasn't gone away: Men are romantically repulsed by promiscuous women. They'll fuck them, but they won't commit to them. Yes, it's a double standard. What a shocker - men and women are different.

breathed into his neck and pulled off his shirt.

You didnt ask his consent you rapey bitch.

I looked at his earnest eyes, hair flopping into his face, stubble that was already reddening my skin (I had already decided I didn’t mind). Hadn’t I already said yes several times? Wasn’t I lying there with him, my leg tossed over his, my whole body arcing toward him?

At another point he kissed me from forehead to toe and said, “I think that’s everywhere.” And I almost told him that was unfair; he hadn’t asked my consent. Although I would say yes to all manner of sexual touching, that much sweetness had the power to break my heart.

Oh, so he should mindread now?

Sex makes me feel unsafe, not because of the act itself but because my partners so often disappear afterward

Then its not sex making you feel unsafe, its abandonment issues, and if you're this fucking crazy about sex I don't blame the guys. Bitch.

Given our wholly consensual interaction, did it matter who was stronger? Couldn’t we treat each other as two equal human beings, each of whom had invited and agreed to intimate acts? Wasn’t that the beautiful thing he was teaching me, that we could be fully human to each other, checking in, honoring yes and respecting no?

Not if you're a feminist.

Because I don’t think many of us would say yes to the question “Is it O.K. if I act like I care about you and then disappear?”

UGH.

“Because he asked for my consent, over and over. So sex felt like a sacred act, and then he disappeared.”

“A sacred act?” one roommate said, laughing. “Girl, you sure don’t treat it like one.”

UGH X2.

[–]fengpi 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Her only, sole, solitary dating complaint is simple: Her wildest fantasies are being inadequately attended-to and haphazardly implemented (not according to her whim, as expected) and it really really makes her disappointed in her feelz-place. She hasn't adjusted to the modern woman's multiple-partner lifestyle: Years of hot sex without any commitment followed by years of well-funded commitment without any sex. The only constant: Stupid Neanderthal men screw it up by playing their roles badly and wrong at every turn.

Spare a tear.

[–]EricAllonde 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Even when feminists get exactly what they demanded and said they wanted - in this case lashings of commitment-free sex, affirmative consent requirements for men (but not for women) and male feminist lovers - they're still miserable and still blaming men for it.

[–]fengpi 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Even when feminists get exactly what they demanded and said they wanted

Sure, but... what if you get what you want but it isn't what you want?? Ooh, head scratcher. Is there no end to this agonizing existential hell that women are trapped in?

(It couldn't be that she wasn't that good in bed. God knows her vagina is a veritable penis-pleasing magic machine every single time.)

[–]JestyerAverageJoe 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even when? That's an interesting way to spell "especially when." Even the author of this article was turned off by his constant consent checking.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because they don't really want this. It's a shit test. Which is why openly patriarchal and sexist cultures (like much of the middle East) get a total pass.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yeah she has some abandonment issues, but calling her bitch for liking sex is being an asshole.

[–]mwobuddy 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Im calling her a bitch for saying that sex makes her feel unsafe, with the implication that men make her feel unsafe, unless she's a lesbian (which doesnt read at all).

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's not the sex that makes her feel unsafe, it's the guy leaving afterwards that makes her feel unsafe, which abaddonment issues that she needs to resolve. That makes her insecure and a bit needy, not a bitch.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I said that earlier. But she's saying its the sex which makes her feel unsafe.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe she needs a theapist to sort out her issues.

[–]Mens-Advocate[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

/u/mwobuddy is right that she is a bitch. She is a bitch several times over:

  • Hedging relations around with so many of her own arbitrary rules.
  • Expecting the male to do exactly what she wants (which she doesn't know herself).
  • Hanging him out to dry publicly when he doesn't.
    Etc.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

“I invited a guy from Tinder to my empty apartment on a snow day,” I said. “Let’s just assume you have blanket consent.” “I’m not comfortable with that.”

Congratulations, you killed sexual passion.

[–]xNOM 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Let’s just assume you have blanket consent.”

Wait. Women need to get consent before hogging the blanket? That sounds awesome actually.

[–]chomponthebit 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago* (43 children) | Copy Link

Translation:

She’s spent over a decade on the cock carousel, getting recreational dick from Chad, and was surprised she could still respond to intimacy.

Her haughty attitude telegraphed her inexperience with romance - which this young gentleman’s “slutdar” rightfully interpreted as a warning: He wonders, “if this chick, six years my senior, can’t handle light kisses up and down her body, what the hell has lovemaking meant to her over all these years?”

“Chad’s dick in all three holes, in an order that would surprise you”, an alarmist voice rings back.

I’ve been there. So many times. These bitches open their legs and welcome your dick, they’ll choke on it gleefully. Yet if you run your fingers through their hair, or along the small of their back, they freeze up because - ready yourselves - THEY are frigid and emotionally-unavailable as fuck.

Young men want romance, genuine intimacy. Women want to wait till they’re thirty. Unfortunately for them, they hit The Wall - when their bodies aren’t as hot, they no longer get their coke for free, and men pump them less and dump them more. So sad

[–]Mens-Advocate[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Young men want romance, genuine intimacy. Women want to wait till they’re thirty. Unfortunately for them, they hit The Wall - when their bodies aren’t as hot, they no longer get their coke for free, and men pump them less and dump them more. So sad.

A female author, Lori Gottlieb, wrote much the same, and got savaged for it by feminist reviewers.

[–]chomponthebit 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. It’s sad and hilarious all in one

[–]omegaphallic -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

That was incel level nastiness, and wow.

[–]Lethn 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago* (33 children) | Copy Link

While he talked about this in a really blunt way, can you not call people incel just for having an opinion you don't like? This is as bad as screaming misogynist, racist or far right at people, I would have thought you of all people would know not to do that omegaphallic.

Whether people like it or not, this post may have come across as bitter, but the fact is a lot of women out there especially feminists are completely full of shit. I'd hate to run into a woman like this in real life, constantly demanding everybody ask her for consent for the slightest thing then when she finally meets someone who naively respects that and has no idea what kind of neurotic sociopath they're dealing with immediately doesn't know what to do with herself because she's getting what she wants.

It's harsh, but emotionally unstable women like this are not going to survive in the gene pool for much longer, single men aren't going to put up with it. One thing I have always hated because I actually quite like aggressive women who can take charge is they are the biggest fakers on the planet they screech for men to treat them with respect and claim to want passive partners but the reality is they're in a total love/hate relationship with the very men they despise.

He definitely could have written that better but calling him incel is a bit of a stretch and frankly I do have to ask, so the fuck what? I despise women like this and every other man who has any self-worth should as well, assuming it's all true, the woman in this article is the exact type of person that will get you put in jail if you have sex with her no matter what you do.

Say no to emotionally unstable sociopaths who don't know what they want everybody.

[–]xNOM 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's harsh, but emotionally unstable women like this are not going to survive in the gene pool for much longer, single men aren't going to put up with it.

I see you are an optimist :-)

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm didn't call him incel, I pointed out he was using the same kind of terminology that they and red pillars do, cock carousal is a typical insult from these groups for woman who have had many sexual partners, and acting like Judgy prudish assholes towards these women is one of the things I can't stand about either group.

[–]Lethn 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Correct, but I think he was just being blunt, I also don't like the idea of giving hypocritical women a free pass who claim to want a stable relationship then fuck the worse douchebags possible and bitch about it in the media and on the internet annoying the rest of us with their whining. Also you didn't directly call him that but you used the classic tactic of insinuation, I don't like that and think it's sneaky because it's a way of trying to paint somebody a label without actually calling them it and at that point you may as well have just called him that.

I get annoyed about this because if feminism and the MeToo movement especially have revealed anything is that these women who bitch about men so much and hate them are deliberately choosing to hang out with the worse men possible within society and that's why they have the experiences they have had and decide to attack us all because they can't find a decent man to save their life.

I agree he should have written better but even with feminists who irritate the fuck out of me I try to give them the benefit of the doubt until they start trying to attack us all.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Don't get me wrong women need to start taking responsibility for their sexual choices and not act like victims when they aren't,, I just don't like judgement prudes who think that sexually adventurous women are beneath them.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women like that aren't 'sexually adventurous' women like that are clingy, pathetic and desperate losers who are sleeping with any man they can find in the hopes of finding the 'one' to spend their lives with only to discover that the kind of men they really want deep down have already moved on and found partners and they're just too hypocritical and narcissistic to realise it.

Even the genuinely sexually adventurous women out their know what they want and eventually settle down, these women like the article writer are just confused hypocrites. Also, I do have to say, why the fuck shouldn't men consider these sorts of women beneath them? I consider these sorts of women beneath me, my time is valuable, I don't have the fucking time to waste three months of my life or however long it takes for them to decide they don't give a shit about me to be in any kind of real relationship.

I could totally respect a girl who would just want to fuck me in a one night stand and move on if it was all mutual, that's fine or have an on and off sex life for awhile. These women though, like I've been ranting, they're just total hypocrites.

[–]Mens-Advocate[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Again, you answer like a prick. MGTOWs, TRPs, PUAs, and incels should be our brothers in the war of the sexes, and we should treat their opinions with respect.

They all know something rotten in the state of gender affairs, and they're right.

[–]Maschalismos 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuckin' Aye

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have no issue with PUAs, although their movement is apolitical and only gets counted as part of the manosphere because Red Pillars and Incels stole and warped some of their ideas into something political.

Have you checked out the subreddits of Incels and Red Pillars, for the most part very, very nasty places. And I assure you, your loyality and solitarity with them is NOT reciperacted by most of them.

Incels especially, the worst of the two, Red Pillars are more dicks then dangerous in practice, seem to have an extremely bitter nilitstic belief system. They are a ticking time bomb.

And I have no interest in a war of the sexes, I don't hate women, they are not the enemy, male disposablity is, I just want a better deal for men, especially the ones at the bottom. The MRM is just a ends to a means, a fairer and freerer society.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

Calling the writer an "emotionally unstable sociopath" is also going a bit far.

[–]Lethn 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (21 children) | Copy Link

She is though, no normal person treats sex or interaction with the opposite gender that way, I call them like I see them. If we did the old gender swap you can bet that she would be the first person to jump out and immediately attack whoever wrote it.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

You and I read what she's trying to say very differently. I actually think she's making a point most MRAs could agree with; that focusing too much on obtaining legally defensible consent can kind of kill the spirit of what consent is supposed to be for.

[–]Lethn 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (19 children) | Copy Link

You missed a point she was making as well as the person I'm defending though that she is feeling completely conflicted about having these thoughts in the first place. She's realised she doesn't actually like the whole concept of him constantly asking for consent and but doesn't feel comfortable with the idea that she doesn't like it in the first place.

Hence why I call her an emotionally unstable sociopath. I don't blame her one bit for it or think she's a genuinely dangerous person just yet if she's even having these thoughts to begin with until she starts lashing out at men and so on as all the others do because this is the fault of her education ( indoctrination ) on the topic causing her to have so many conflicting feelings.

She desperately needs help, otherwise she's going to get dragged right back into the feminist cult and come to the conclusion as they all do that men are the problem. Many women around her age who have grown up in very left wing and feminist environments are going to be going through the same thing now as they realise this isn't what they wanted.

Because I don’t think many of us would say yes to the question “Is it O.K. if I act like I care about you and then disappear?”

By the way, this is what I regard as becoming dangerous and why I called her a sociopath, rather than realise she may have been lied to her whole life about the whole concept of interaction with men. She's coming to the conclusion that it's men who are the problem and she's not just being a sociopath to the guy and that's why he ran away, this line of thinking is where feminists get genuinely dangerous because they can't handle rejection and then decide to take it out on men as a whole.

It's actually crazy that women like her have positions in the New York Times at all but it just shows you the types of people we're dealing with.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't like what he did, either, but I still agree with the standard of affirmative consent. If you're treating your partner in a healthy, respectful way you make damn sure they want it before you get sexual with them, but asking constantly in that way kind of misses that point. It's paying attention more to your own fears than what's making the other person happy.

But the feminist standard is literally to get clear enthusiastic spoken consent at every turn.

Which apparently actually turns women off.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Affirmative consent usually isn't verbal. I think most people, feminists included, can understand that. Most people can also appreciate that you should be sure your partner is into it, and if you're not sure, get sure. That's when to ask.

, but I still agree with the standard of affirmative consent. If you're treating your partner in a healthy, respectful way you make damn sure they want it before you get sexual with them, but asking constantly in that way kind of misses that point.

You don't seem to know what you want just like her and if you keep thinking this way you're never going to get the partner you actually like. You either want affirmative consent or you don't, affirmative consent is an utterly ridiculous notion which just pretty much revolves around badgering your partner constantly to check if everything is okay while trying to have sex.

If you don't get that or you don't want that particular brand of intimacy then you don't actually understand affirmative consent like you think you do.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's a caricature of affirmative consent. You know, this issue doesn't really come up if you're going about sex and dating the right way. By the time you're physically intimate you both know the other person is really wanting it. Most of the time affirmative consent is non-verbal, or at least non-legalistic. It just can't be taken for granted.

Would you wonder about a man who’s been through thirty interviews and not been hired?

Would you buy a car that’s been in thirty accidents?

Then why would you have a long-term relationship with a woman who’s banged dozens or more over a decade and who’s biggest fear about sex is that “men always leave”? And she’s already thirty? It would take a serious idiot to buy that write-off

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I date other men, so having a high sex count is not unusual nor something I care about terribly.

I think you're really reading her uncharitably for having a weird reaction to someone who was acting in a weird way.

[–]chomponthebit 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What’s incel about having sex but wanting something deeper, and more intimate? Chicks treat blowies and casual sex like it means nothing, and recoil in horror when men try to do anything remotely romantic, sensitive - things that should indicate it does indeed, mean something. It’s got nothing to do with him being “incel” and everything to do with her emotional retardation. Meanwhile, she says she’s 6 years his senior and has had over a decade of casual sex? No wonder he ghosted

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll point out that she wanted something deeper and more intimate and he is the one who left. There is no shortage of women who want romance and sensitivity. You act like they've all turned to characters from porn (I wish). So this chick has some experience, big deal, doesn't mean she deserves to be shit on or treated like trash.

And there is nothing wrong with casual sex, it's fine if it not your thing, there are still plenty of women who don't like it either, but it's no excuse to put down those who do enjoy it. Just find a woman who shares your tastes.

And having casual sex is not emotional retardation.

No.... I’m a woman and I agree 110% with what he wrote. It’s absolutely and bluntly true.

I warn the girls I work with about this all the time. Get married young. Have babies young. It only gets harder and harder as you age and nothing will improve with age.

People have to pick there own path. What is right for one person is not for another. You have to be careful of mental projection. Not all women are like you.

I know a few incels who are wonderful human beings; they just don't know how to court women, and they suffer for it. You're a prick for insulting them rather than helping them.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I tried to help them, they banned me from their main subreddit, before it ironically got banned.

I have a huge desire to help incels, but they have to let go of the world of hopeless desire first, nothing I do will help them until they do.

And if you know some wonderful Incels, please encourage them to leave the movement, they can become a PUA, MGTOW, Hobbyist (John), or whatever, but the Incel movement is self destructive. Hell even Red Pillars are a better choice.

The core of the article and its title is, "Men should need our permission to walk away."

Alternately, "We need a pretext to extend the legal noose from husbands to casual lovers."

Women complaining about how hard they find dating is just rich. "Oh I'm sorry, struggling to find mr. Perfect in while floating in the ocean of positive male attention with only the occasional island of rejection? How sad for you"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link

I interpret her as saying, basically, that the spirit of obtaining consent should be about respecting the other person enough to be getting off with them rather than at their expense, and that you can still obtain legal consent without respecting the spirit of it. I'd agree.

Except if he doesn’t, she can charge him with rape if she feels sad he isn’t returning her calls.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

He could also shoot her dog if he's feeling rejected. It's not that it can't or never plays out that way, but as a threat there's not great evidence that's it's as widespread as people fear it is.

[–]Jenocyd 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

I personally know of two men wrongfully accused of rape. I’m not the only one who knows men wrongfully accused.

Plus shooting her dog is a crime he would be charged and jailed for. Harshly likely.

If she accuses him of rape and he is found not guilty (about a 50/50 chance), she gets no punishment and his life is still destroyed.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

It's nowhere near that high. The percentage of cases that ever make it to trial is small. Moreover, if you look at the list of people who have been outed by #metoo and what happened thereafter, most don't seem to have destroyed lives. There were consequences in many cases, but legal consequences in hardly any of them and moderate ones besides.

This is like arguing about terrorism: the evidence suggests it's not as big a threat as we make it out to be, but that doesn't make it a non-issue. We need perspective.

[–]Jenocyd 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

You’re talking about hyper famous men with power, connections and tons of money. Not average guys with families and regular jobs. Men who are accused of rape, a rape they never did, are put in jail. No investigation. Toronto police, for example, are mandated to treat the accused as a rapist and a woman’s statement IS the investigation. You get to defend yourself in court, that’s it.

“#metoo” was a joke. It was just more of the same fake outrage machine over feelings and women not getting their calls returned.

How about Jian Gomeshi? Ffs, Lucy admitted that her testimony was about her ex boyfriend, but that someone had to pay for it.

Duke lacrosse?

There’s a dozen more schools with fake rape charges that destroyed boy’s careers.

I want people to back this up statistically rather than make the claim anecdotally. I don't think this research exists yet, and it needs to. I suspect it's less of a problem than you fear it is, but whether it calms your alarms or raises mine that's important information to have.

“#metoo” was a joke. It was just more of the same fake outrage machine over feelings and women not getting their calls returned.

Would you say that of the male victims who came forward? It gets really hard to take someone seriously when they make a plea for taking the one issue seriously and immediately turn around and dismiss the other side this strongly.

I don't think the Lacrosse team had their lives or careers destroyed. In fact, I don't even think their names were ever made widely public. I could be crossing my wires. Again, I'm doing the impossible thing here of trying to say, "It's not that the threat you are focused on isn't real. It's that there's not really great evidence for it being as big as you think it is."

[–]Jenocyd 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

The whole #metoo belittled actual victims. Male victims who came forward were likely extreme cases, men don’t often come forward. Women always do, even when nothing happened.

I think you need to look into these things a little deeper.

As for the Toronto police, it’s policy.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Without statistics to back this point up it's very, very hard not to write it off as confirmation bias using anecdotal evidence.

[–]Jenocyd 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think anyone was combing through twitter to create statistics. All there is are the anecdotes. The entirety of #metoo is anecdotal.
