It's offensive to females because he's saying they can't perform as well as males without extra help, it's offensive to males because their performance is valued less than that of females.

Dr. Liping Liu is a University of Akron Professor. He emailed his female students on Monday with what he thought was good news for them and society.

He was inflating their grade "one level or two". Dr. Liu was hoping to encourage more women to major in information sciences. He thought he was helping society by preventing women from flunking his class.

The Professor could have done it without telling anyone. Instead, his email was posted on the internet.

His employer issued a statement on Wednesday. It is in the attached link.

So I live in the 'real world' and have a job where I'm in a position to terminate you. If I were to tell my CEO, "I gave all of the women in the office a higher score so they do not get terminated. Sounds great right boss!" I would be terminated.

It must be nice to work in a world without consequences... He basically got a harsh talk from the head of the university. So now he knows he can get away with this as long as he does not send an email. No way, in a regular type of job, would they trust you at all after something like this.

They would terminate the person that 'gave all women' a good score. All this does is try and sweep it under the rug. They should terminate him and he should not be allowed in a position to decide on your grade just because of your private parts. Obviously, I don't work at google..

The grade inflation is done by having a percentage of the grade based on class participation. This gives professors plausible deniability to grade inflation for girls and minority students.

Kudos to the prof for actually having the integrity to say in an email to the women in the class what he was going to do before he did it. He could have done it on the down-low. I bet that has been done plenty. Kudos to the college for shutting that the fuck down. Kudos to whichever of the women had the ethical sense to make it publicly known.

So the college administration and at least one of the women handled this 100% properly, and in a very prompt manner. And the professor, while TERRIBLY misguided managed to be honest enough to allow public discourse on his intended course of action.

This is the kind of thing that should happen occasionally so that the state of discourse can be adjudicated.

And it is vindicating that, in this case at least, society says "PPD!"

It was never the policy to inflate grades so the title is emphatically false and misleading.
