My wife read this story and turned to me, apologized for her gender's treatment of men... I do love that woman.

[–]shaunspicer 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She sounds great but she shouldn't've. Stuff like this isn't her fault just like guys like Harvey Weinstein isn't our fault as men

[–]bufedad 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thats what i told her.

[–]say10_upside_down 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You married the right one, my friend.

[–]RainMitch 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Reversed, yo.

Hey women, what are you planning to do better? Because you need to do better. Here are ideas on how you should treat men better.

  • Talk to your friend who is “kind of a creep” at work

  • Don’t talk over men.

  • If you are asked to be on a panel/team and see that it’s all women, say something. Maybe even refuse the spot!

  • When you see another girl talk over a man, say: “Hey, he was saying something.”

  • Learn to read a fucking room.

  • Don’t call men “crazy” in a professional setting.

  • Don’t use your “feminism” as a way to get men to trust you. Show us in your day-to-day life, not in your self-congratulatory social media.

  • Don’t touch men you don’t know, and honestly, ask yourself why you feel the need to touch men in general.

  • Do you feel that any man on earth owes you something? He doesn’t. Even if you’re like, “Hm, but what about basic respect?” ask yourself if you’ve shown him the same.

  • Don’t send pictures of your nudes unless he just asked for them.

  • If a man says no to a date, don’t ask him again.

  • If a man has not given an enthusiastic “yes” to sex, back the hell off.

  • If a man is really drunk, he cannot consent to you and he also cannot consent to your friend who seems to be trying something. Your friend is your responsibility, so say something to her and intervene.

  • If you do the right thing, don’t expect praise or payment or a pat on the back or even a “thank you from that man”. Congratulations, you were baseline decent.

  • Involve men in your creative projects, then let them have equal part in them.

  • Don’t make misandrist jokes.

  • Don’t expect men to be “nice” or “good looking” and don’t get upset when they aren’t those things.

  • Don’t make assumptions about a man’s intelligence, capabilities or desires based on how he dresses.

  • Pay men as much as you pay women.

  • If a man tells you that you fucked up, and you feel like shit, don’t put it on that man to make you feel better. Apologize without qualification and then go away.

  • Don’t punish men for witnessing your vulnerability.

  • Don’t get defensive when you get called out.

  • Don’t need to literally witness a woman being horrible in order to believe that she’s horrible. Trust and believe men.

  • Don’t use your power to get men’s attention/company/sex/etc.

  • Be aware of your inherent power in situations and use it to protect men, especially via talking to other women.

  • Stop thinking that because you’re also marginalized or a survivor that you cannot inflict pain or oppress men.

  • If men’s pain makes you feel pain, don’t prize your pain above his, or make that pain his problem.

Don’t read a list like this and think that most of these don’t apply to you.

Don’t expect men to be “nice” or “good looking” and don’t get upset when they aren’t those things.

This should be changed to be 'Don’t expect men to be “nice” or “tall”

[–]Mackeroy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

tall is just a minor prerequisite to good looking, i know because i'm tall but still look like homeless irish jesus

[–]Kozio_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I was advising you on ways to catch female attention and you seem to have been triggered by an autocorrect error

[–]Mackeroy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

except i'm not triggered, just wholly confused by this left field derailment that has nothing to do with the comment i commented on. as for "advising you on ways to catch female attention" that also had nothing to do with comment seeing as how tallness while considered to be an attractive trait is not deffinitively what makes someone good looking, furthermore you can be good looking without being tall. This train of incoherency you've left the station with has only been a long line of ridiculousness that has had nothing to do with any of that

[–]Kozio_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You do understand it's impossible not to trigger a train of incoherency derailment when seeking the attention of females, yes?

[–]oddible -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Reposting this list reversed a) undermines effective notice of legitimate men's issues - this list isn't about men's issues at all and very few of them actually apply or are relevant, b) is reactionary misogyny that minimizes women's issues - acknowledging the concerns of others helps us appreciate that everyone is not like us and everyone has issues we may not understand. Empathy helps us see other's issues more effectively and brings others to see our issues effectively through shared language and communication.

I came across this post because I was looking to see if this URL got posted, this is my first visit to r/mensrights. After seeing the OPs title and this particular post and its number of upvotes I had to check what the tenor of this subreddit actually is. I am embarrassed to find that it is less a sub on legitimate men's issues and seems to be a mixed list of men's issues and misogynistic rants. When you guys don't talk down the OP's thread title and this 'reversed' post it is hard to take this sub seriously - seems more like a hideout of nut jobs.

[–]RainMitch 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Or, maybe, just because I reversed a list that some crazy person made, does in fact not list out what I believe. I am personally egalitarian and want everyone to be treated equally. Moreover, not every comment on every post needs to be completely serious, sometimes it's OK to have a laugh at dumb things and reversing those things can help bring out how dumb they are.

I do also support women's rights, in fact, I happen to be a woman who likes other women.

Most of us (I say most, because statistically there's always that one, fuck you jerry) don't hate women, we just hate the hypocrisy of feminism and misandry.

[–]oddible -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

But that's the thing, it isn't symmetric, there are women's issues and there are men's issues, they're different, reversing them isn't egalitarian - egalitarian would be acknowledging the women's issues and posting a relevant list of men's issues to also be acknowledged - OR - denying the list of women's issues and equally denying any men's issues. Of course they're dumb when you reverse them, that doesn't make the list dumb, it only makes you look dumb, and misogynistic.

Any human posting issues that they are suffering about should be respected by all of us - especially those that a significant number of humans share, this isn't one nutbar posting this list, the number of people who have acknowledged being challenged by many items on this list suggest there may be some relevance here. You don't have to 'support women's rights' to acknowledge that people are suffering these problems - whether that means that you think we need to change society or get them psychiatric help is up to you but to not acknowledge their issues is just supporting your own ignorance and naivety.

[–]RainMitch 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not so. I think you may be confused on what egalitarian means, it doesn't mean "Believe any problem somebody says they have."

I mean I have to automatically disagree with the list she wrote, she addressed it to all men. Its like when people say, "teach men not to rape", it's terribly insulting to think that all men do this bad thing or that bad thing.

I'm not even saying that all the items on her list were unreasonable, I just had to disagree with addressing it to all men.

[–]BlockNotDo 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

  • Talk to your friend who is “kind of a creep” at work.

Why would I have a friend who is kind of a creep? I don't hang around those types of guys.

  • Don’t talk over women.

I don't typically talk over men or women. But I'll talk over either if they are being rude or trying to talk over me. I'm sure the author isn't suggesting that I should treat women differently than how I treat men. That wouldn't be equality.

  • Don’t call women “crazy” in a professional setting.

I'll call crazy people crazy (although I'd likely use a different word like, "unstable", "incompetent" or "nuts") when they're being crazy - professional setting or not.

  • If a woman is really drunk, she cannot consent to you and she also cannot consent to your buddy who seems to be trying something.

Wrong! Women have agency over their own decisions - sexual and otherwise.

  • Pay women as much as you pay men.

What? Just as a blanket policy? No. I'll pay people who are more valuable to the company more money and people who are less valuable less money. Gender is the last thing on my mind when determine fair compensation for an employee.

  • Don’t need to literally witness a man being horrible in order to believe that he’s horrible. Trust and believe women.

Sorry, just like men, women lie.

  • Don’t use your power to get women’s attention/company/sex/etc.

??? So we're not supposed to be attractive to women? How's that gonna work out in the long term for the species? Maybe we should tell women to stop being attracted to the power that a man has and start being attracted to whether or not he's a good person.

  • Don’t read a list like this and think that most of these don’t apply to you.

I don't think most of these don't apply to me. I don't think any of them apply to me. I only responded to a few selected points. Don't let that make you think that the ones I omitted are somehow valid. I just got better things to do with my time.

This person gets paid to write this garbage? "Don't talk over women"? If I talk over a woman, or a man for that matter, it's because they're talking shit, and I don't have time for them.

[–]armaadi 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And the reverse. I've been talked over by a shit ton of women. My wife has a bit of a habit of this, and there are times when I have to get onto her about it. This isn't a gendered thing, not even close.

[–]jmg83 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Talk to your friend who is “kind of a creep” at work.

This is subjective. And I doubt men are friends with men they feel are "kind of a creep" to begin with.

Don’t talk over women.

Because women never talk over anyone...

If you are asked to be on a panel/team and see that it’s all men, say something. Maybe even refuse the spot!

Why?

When you see another guy talk over a woman, say: “Hey, she was saying something.”

Why? Because women are too pathetic and weak to do it themselves? No thanks. I respect women, so I'll expect them to stand up for THEMSELVES. Like I expect men to do. I wouldn't stand up for a man in this situation, so I wouldn't do it for a woman either. I treat people equally.

Learn to read a fucking room.

You first. If things are aggressive and everyone is loud and putting forth their ideas, then bring yourself into that type of headspace to fit that environment. Rather than demand everyone make that space work for you.

Don’t call women “crazy” in a professional setting.

If someone is being crazy, regardless of gender. Then they're being crazy. I think it'd be more beneficial to report the "Craziness" to HR rather than directly antagonize a "crazy" person by calling them crazy. But that has nothing to do with gender.

Don’t use your “feminism” as a way to get women to trust you. Show us in your day-to-day life, not in your self-congratulatory social media.

lol, I sure won't. I'm not a feminist. I treat women the same way I do men. In my day-to-day life and on the internet. Which gets me called sexist and misogynist by feminists. Which is one reason why I'm not one, among more meaningful reasons.

Don’t touch women you don’t know, and honestly, ask yourself why you feel the need to touch women in general.

I don't. Why are you assuming I would? How about you don't touch gay men you don't know, and ask yourself why you feel entitled to sexually assault gay men in gay bars. It's sure not fun to be generalized like that is it? Sexist.

Do you feel that any woman on earth owes you something? She doesn’t. Even if you’re like, “Hm, but what about basic respect?” ask yourself if you’ve shown her the same.

No. But you, as evidenced by this list, feel that men owe women a lot. Like "standing up" for them at work. Rather than women being the adults they are and doing it for themselves, it's men's job. Rather than a woman reporting a "creepy" guy to HR, a man should "talk to his creepy friend". Men should just solve women's problems for them. Since women are apparently super helpless children. No thank you.

Don’t send pictures of your penis unless she just asked for them.

No one should send unsolicited nudes. I'd agree with that, but you had to make it gendered for no reason.

If a woman says no to a date, don’t ask her again.

A lot of old happily married couples are together solely because of the persistence of the man. I've seen so many old ladies talk about how they didn't like their now husband when they first met, and he just kept at it and eventually she warmed up to him and said yes. Then they had a lovely life together.

I think this is more complex and situational than many realize. Sometimes people change their minds, and it's not like women are going to ask the man out once they do. They will just wait for him to ask again, and if they listen to you they will never do so.

If a woman has not given an enthusiastic “yes” to sex, back the hell off.

So if she pulls your pants off, sits on top of you, you're supposed to do what? Throw her off and say, "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD M'LADY! You did not give an enthusiastic yes, before you pulled off my pants and attempted to insert my penis into your vagina!"

The whole "yes means yes" but only if it's a really super duper yes, but sometimes not even that, crap is stupid and confusing. Sex is not so mechanical.

The sad part, is there is a discussion to be had here. About clarity, but we'll never be able to have that "rape apologist" discussion thanks to feminism. If you mean "no". Say it. Don't just think it. Don't just make a pouty face, don't just lay there or sit there, or accept it. Say "no". You have to. And never, ever say "no" if you mean "not now" or "after some foreplay". This is the problem. Women want to have their sexual freedom, but they still want to sell this idea they are pure and innocent at the same time. You can't have both.

You can't be coy while sexually free. They are contradicting things. But I've gone on long enough for this one.

If a woman is really drunk, she cannot consent to you and she also cannot consent to your buddy who seems to be trying something. Your buddy is your responsibility, so say something and intervene.

No, another person is not my responsibility. And again with men having hyper-agency and women having zero. How about feminists stop pushing these horridly sexist ideas?

If a woman is "really drunk", that means she is responsible for that state she is in. Perhaps instead of useless feminism, we should focus on trying to figure out how to instill responsible drinking habits to people. Or find ways to just decrease the consumption all together through other means. ie; making people happier in other ways, so they don't fall onto drugs/alcohol to feel better. But that would be helpful.

If you do the right thing, don’t expect praise or payment or a pat on the back or even a “thank you from that woman”. Congratulations, you were baseline decent.

Fuck off. Some women argue for "emotional labor" and how they should be paid for it. Have you ever, in your life, even considered telling these same people to fuck off and stop expecting payment for being "baseline decent"? Doubt it.

Involve women in your creative projects, then let them have equal part in them.

Why is it men's responsibility? Women can create their own projects. If someone wants the best people for the job and they happen to be men, that's that. Stop it you sexist.

I can't even continue. Way too long.

[–]Kozio_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just thought this, but modern day feminism is females realizing they can't get away with petty crap, so they started this movement to force the culture to obey and normalize their petty crap

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists think all men are like the creepy, skeevy men that they know. We are not.
