This is r/stupidpassdenied. Stupidity doesn't know genders.

Genuinely bummed that subreddit doesn't exist.

Ya a lot of these women don't do what they do because they're women, but because they also happen to be dumb.

[–]DJayPhresh 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The point isn't just that they're women, it's that they get treated rationally and don't get away with it because they're women. They get exactly what they deserve. However, as much as I love Ben Shapiro, I don't think this post belongs here.

As someone who has been in scouts 14 years i see where this comes from. Girls scout troops generally are not very active. However, in scouts exsist a sub group called venturing (explorer scouts if your old) this is 14 to 21 and is coed. Boyscouts is not about camping necessarily. Yes its a part but the goal is to develop boys into men who can contribute to society. The reason it isnt coed is because guys and girls (generally) devlop differently. (This we all learned in health class).

[–]FrigOffCyrus 60 points61 points62 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And it gives boys a chance to grow in a male-centered environment that focuses on things such as citizenship, outdoor skills, and leadership. As if those three things are toxic. It's great for boys that have little to no positive male figures in their life and more often than not produces great citizens.

[–]ldt003 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

The problem with venturing is that there is no "eagle" in it. It's just doing fun things, which is fine, but it needs something for the resumes.

[–]runswithbufflo 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

There are ranks of venturing. The highest rank in venturing is actually more prestigious and held by less people.

[–]ldt003 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't say it's more prestigious per se; more exclusive, yes, but not more prestigious.

[–]runswithbufflo 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Its harder to obtain than eagle.

[–]kkjdroid 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That doesn't make it more prestigious. Having eaten a lightbulb is something that only a few people can honestly claim, but it isn't prestigious in the slightest.

[–]Davethemann 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Id have to disagree with you there. Eating a lightbulb got me far in life.

[–]StarkweatherRoadTrip"I cut my teddy bear a butthole and fucked it from 12-15" 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No it's not I have both. Doing what eagle requires before 18 is harder. Edit: hmm I have to add that I was briefly the youngest to get eagle scout in my state ever until someone got the absolute minimum.

[–]MongolianCluster 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because doing something because it's fun is wrong. Fuck resume builders. How about life builders?

[–]ldt003 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not saying doing venturing is bad. It's just that Boy Scouts doesn't want to encroach on Girl Scouts, but still wants to afford them the opportunity. At some point, I think the Boy Scouts should make its own Girl Scouts, but imagine the feminist backlash.

[–]Tar_alcaran 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You put the boyscouts on your resume? I can't imagine doing that unless you happen to apply for, say, climbing course instructor or something.

[–]ldt003 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are many places here that exclusively hire Eagle Scouts. It's gotten me many a job offer in my field, music education. For the record though, yes, I am now currently employed as a climbing instructor.

[–]Jav__ 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Bruh being a Boy Scout is a very prestigious accomplishment. It's essentially saying that you committed 14 years of your life to a cause while partaking in leadership training, survival skills, first aid, etc. it's a big accomplishment and can change be a good game changer.

[–]Tar_alcaran 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe in the us... here its no more valuable than spending the same time on a soccer team.

[–]Jav__ 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes in the US it's extremely valuable

[–]runswithbufflo 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I do. I don't you dont understand what the scouting program is. Its more than just climbing and such. It teaches leadership skills and tries to instill good values.

[–]Tar_alcaran 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Maybe I'm biased. Other than highschool, nothing from before university is really on my resume. A >25 year old with "eagle scout " on his resume really only gets an eyeroll here, unless you're working with kids I guess.

[–]detourxp 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's important enough that the military gives you a higher rank when you enter if you're an eagle scout.

[–]runswithbufflo 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I put it under leadership. Eagle scouts have done much more than camping to achieve that rank. The amount of leadership, planning, communication skils, perseverance, and adaptability that goes into it is more than one may think. Scouts is a 10 year development program that a boy has gone through to work on all of the listed skills. If you had a minor in communication (like public speaking not literature) youd put that on a resume. I spent 8 years of scouts infront of 30 plus people speaking about something. As an engineer my public speaking skills are a lot better than my peers because of this. The rank is usually just a slight edge on a resume.

[–]mistermorteau 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah boys grow penis, girls grow tits,
quite different.

[–]SuperIceCreamCrash 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah the girl scouts and boy scouts are just existentially different. If a girl wants to join boy scouts I don't see a problem with it as long as they don't force the content to change.

Boy scouts are the entire definition of masculinity, totally departed from politics. You really shouldn't change that.

I never understood the argument "girls need to be able to join the Boy Scouts because Girl Scouts isn't as much fun". Why not just petition to have the Girl Scouts less feminised, then?

[–]trihardfiercemonkey 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

entitled women make everything less fun.

[–]user1492 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because the Girl Scouts is shit top to bottom.

Many girls in scouts want to do girly stuff. They don't want to go camping or shoot guns.

The troop leaders aren't experienced in outdoor activities. They don't have connections with campgrounds. The resources and education aren't there for the kids.

The national leadership doesn't care about those types of activities. They are more focused on urban-style Girl Scouts. Empowerment, learning to be a leader, etc.

I don't think the Boy Scouts should be forced to accept girls. There needs to be a place for boys to learn those things in an all-male environment. I just want an alternative to Girl Scouts for my girls.

[–][deleted] 92 points93 points94 points 9 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

Women want to invade every organization and institution that men have and every time they have succeeded they have turned that organization into a an anti-male institution.

They claim they just want equality and then when they get equal access to things they insist that everyone accommodate their whims and caprices or else they are sexists.

The Boy Scouts is one more institution they want to corrupt and use to advance their political agenda.

[–]jasperspaw55 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I was reading a couple weeks ago that there is a waiting list of 51K boys wanting to join the Boy Scouts in the U.K. for lack of Scout leaders. They allow girls in the Boy Scouts in the U.K., so there are 80K girls in the Boy Scouts. Boys aren't allowed to join girl scouts in the U.K.

The article was about men not wanting to become Scout leaders because of the social stigma and high risk of being labelled a paedophile.

EQUALITY !!! i want to enter the girls scout then...

all of them !

[–]kieran81 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But these are trans people. They identify as male and should be treated as such. If you do identify as a girl and have wanted to be a girl all your life then go right he fuck ahead.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm 46 and I want to be a girlscout.

If they don't let me that's not only sexism but ageism!

DISCRIMINATION!!!!! REEEEEEEEEEEE

[–]roguejelleyfish785 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Not disagreeing with you at all, but what are a few examples of organizations where this has happened? Like are there any that they have successfully ruined?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For starters male only schools. There used to be many male only schools and colleges and now there are very few and none that receive federal funding (that I know of).

Then there is sports. For every 1 position created for females they had to eliminate 4 for males. Why? Because female sports are so unprofitable, but also because they can't get enough girls to actually play sports. So, they can't have those other boys teams because they can't get enough girls for their to be "equal" numbers.

The US military. If a male disables himself before a deployment he can be charged and court-martialed for it. If a woman gets pregnant--even deliberately--she gets a desk job and if she's already on a ship they airlift her out of wherever they are all at taxpayer expense. see USS Acadia--"This was the first wartime deployment of a mixed male-female crew on a U.S. Navy combat vessel. Just over one third of her crew were women, which caused some controversy when during the course of the mission 1 in 10 of the female crew either became pregnant or discovered they already were."

Now women scream about rape in the military yet there is less rape in the military than in the civilian world and "rape" is defined very differently by feminists, law enforcement, and the military. What is actually happening is some women are fucking the alphas and instead of getting busted for fraternization they are claiming rape so they can get their pussypass at the guy's expense.

[–]kieran81 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? These are not "females". They are people who identify as male and therefore should be treated as such. Reducing transgender people to "women trying to destroy mankind" is literally comparing LGBTQ+ organizations who just want fucking equal rights to a terrorist organization. What is wrong with you actually.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

They aren't sick and I doubt they would appreciate being called sick.

What is wrong with you? Why can't boys have anything of their own?

They aren't just asking to let trans girls into the Boy Scouts. They want ALL girls, whether they identify as male or not, to be able to enter the Boy Scouts.

They get their foot in the door with transexuals and then they pry it wide open for all girls and then what is the Boy Scouts? It's nothing, because it doesn't take long before it becomes a hostile environment for boys.

How long do you think it will take before scout leaders are accused of something or boys are accused of something? These boys are just learning how to be men and now girls are thrown in with them and those girls don't want equality. They never do. They claim that's what they want but when they get it they realize there's no privilege or advantage in equality and then they'll demand "special" rules to protect girls and punish boys.

How long before they institute the lowest burden of proof for any accusation made by a girl against a male?

How long before they institute a "rape shield" type rule that prevents males from facing their accuser or being allowed to defend themselves?

[–]kieran81 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I meant to write "such" instead of "sick", so that was my fault there.

But just because they let Trans men into Boy scouts does not mean that women are 100% going to be let in so they can ruin everything because that's apparently all women want to do according to your post. I've heard the same argument used with Homosexuality. "Why let homosexuals marry? Soon enough, adults will be marrying children, and people will be marrying animals! We have to draw the line at two consensual adults doing nothing wrong!"

Equating that trans men being let into boy scouts and women getting let in is too big of a leap. They already have a coed outdoor league of scouts which has seen no controversy you have stated, and they have girl scouts. But forcing someone to live life as someone they aren't is a horrible thing to do. We can draw the line at trans folk, but I seriously think that saying trans people will open the door to the downfall of the scouts is a really shitty thing to say. I also don't think women should be in the Boy scouts, but we're not talking about women. We're talking about men. And men should be let into the scout unit specifically made for men.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Do they allow girls in the Boy Scouts in Britain?

Yes.

Now there aren't enough scout masters to go around and boys are being left out.

That will happen here.

If those "trans men" were completely changed and no one could tell then they could join and keep their mouths shut about it. Instead, they want to be somewhere in the middle and tell everyone else to accept it.

Maybe I'd like to start using the women's bathroom. Maybe we should let all men use the women's bathroom? Would you like that?

[–]kieran81 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Well, have you been identifying as a girl all your life? Have you always wanted to wear dresses, do makeup, or just be girly, but are oppressed by society? If so, you can fucking start using hormones and go for it. If you think that it's an "If we allow trans, then anyone can join!" type deal, then why are trans folk able to use whatever bathroom they identify with in the county I am in in California, but still random men aren't just barging in to stare at girls? Because I have had firsthand experience with transgender friends, and I can tell you that most people who are trans aren't just doing it for this stupid reason or that. The only reason they are doing it is because they truly want to be the opposite gender, and they have wanted to for a while. Also, I told you: I don't care that girls are allowed in the boy scouts. I care if BOYS are allowed in BOY scouts. And that's what Trans Men are. BOYS.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

They aren't boys until they have completed sex reassignment surgery.

If they still possess a vagina they are girls and like all girls they will expect special rights and privileges just for them.

[–]kieran81 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's incredibly sexist. ALL girls expect special privileges just for them? EVERY SIMGLE ONE? That's the most neckbeardy thing ever said to me, other than the shit my brother said in middle school. And you seem to be expecting a bunch of kids to go out and get dicks sewn onto them. Just don't be a dick and let the guys go into a scouting unit with the gender they identify with. If you needed to get another dick seen onto you every time you wanted to join a club, life would really suck.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

NAWALT is arguably the most narcissistic response a woman can give and saying it shows that you want special privilege for every. single. woman.

And it's always the same thing every time a woman wants to take what a man has earned. "We just want equality." And once you get your way you demand that everyone in that group conform to the behavior that makes you feel most comfortable.

That's why men don't want you in their groups.

[–]kieran81 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You literally sound like those "Yes, ALL men are rapists" on Tumblr. Taking a piece of the picture and generalizing it so much that EVERY SINGLE PERSON fits into that. And I DON'T WANT SPECIAL PRIVILEGE FOR WOMEN. I just want trans people to be in whatever scout group they identify with. I literally said that if you were a trans girl I would want you to be in the Girl Scouts. Just like how I want all trans boys to be in the Boy Scouts. I've been in the Boy Scouts for several years and I've had trans friends who have always wanted to be in too. I feel like that's true injustice, and that should be changed.

BTW: you seem to think I'm a girl. I'm a man. Not even a trans man, I was born with a dick. I just have trans friends and feel like treating other human beings like they can't choose who they want to be is not the American way.

[–][deleted]1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I never said "all" anyone is anything.

But you seem to think that if not everyone is like the way I describe then I have no right to call out those that do.

Now fuck off. I'm done with this.

[–]kieran812 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Wow you just fucking edited out the shitty cringy neckbeardy part where you talked about how "all women just want special privileges". You literally have to edit your posts to win an argument. At least the only edit I did was a spelling mistake that I talked about in another comment. In your lord and savior's own words, "Sad!"

[–]ldt003 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, the Girl Scouts sucks.

[–]NameOfAction 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Then girls and women should make it better, not ruin boy scouting

[–]ldt003 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're not wrong, but women aren't going to make it better. Catch 22.

[–]mlg2433 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bill burr said it best. "They don't want their own shit. They want our shit."

[–]trihardfiercemonkey -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Women want to invade every organization and institution that men have and every time they have succeeded they have turned that organization into a an anti-male institution.

All of this happens because men allow it though. There has to be some kind of benefit, else we'd stop it within days.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Stop blaming men. "Men allow it" implies that men are in power.

Men have no more control than a chauffeur controls a limo. It's the person in the back who's in charge and that's the same for our society.

When women want something they get it. They don't have to fight. They don't have to die. They don't have to blow anything up or shed a drop of blood. They just whine and bitch and hen peck long enough and some white knights give them what they want.

Those few men who run the government are on a leash and women hold the other end.

Stop blaming men.

[–]trihardfiercemonkey -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

not blaming anyone.

I am just saying feminism and so on exists because men want to have it that way for some reason.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bullshit.

Define "men".

What men?

I'm a man and I don't want it that way.

I'm all for women taking their place in the world but not if they have to hamstring men to do it.

So tell me what "men" you are talking about.

Its not that, its mainly his smug-ness i can't stand. The "matter of fact" way that he states everything. Also very simply his alt-right "everything is black or white" view point. It's also clear he's got some sort of social interaction problem and treats everyone like they are stupid and beneath him.

Nope, but I also couldn't care less of what you think of me or my beliefs. Shapiro is a classic case of no-one ever gave him a beat down, and because of his class (read: family money, wealth) he has never had to struggle or see real life. Hence, why he has such cut and dry ideals. He is the last person to ever consider that he would be wrong about something. That is my problem with him

[–]JewsAreGreat 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You do realize anti abortion people believe that millions of babies are being murdered annually right? Just because you don't think that, you can't discount their opinion as stupid. In fact I'd bet if you agreed with them on when life started you'd argue heavily against murdering babies. Yes, that's what I'm telling you. I have my idea of when life begins, and it's not at birth, but I still support other people's right to get an abortion because many people believe it does begin at birth. My beliefs aren't theirs and they have to decide on the morality of abortion for themselves. Also, I find the holocaust reference lazy.

Eh, who knows. It's not tasteful, but Idk that user.

The abortion debate is not as cut an dry as both sides make it, and to say one or the other opinion is simply wrong and stupid, is simplifying the issue far too much. Especially now with prenatal care and babies being viable younger and younger out of the womb. It's complicated

[–]ElsatheIceKhaleesi points 9 years ago* [recovered] (14 children) | Copy Link

It's blatantly obvious that you are of low intellect. Why? The truly intelligent never sit themselves on a pedestal and preach that they and they alone are right.

[–]TheRealYM 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

The greatest minds, as you say, are smart enough to know that some opinions shouldn't be respected because they inhibit progress.

That is a very dark, censored and Orwellian thought process. Remember it was once a fact the Earth was flat. Your views about when life begins aren't set in stone.

What about a baby 5 weeks premature, is it not a baby until the due date? Did it just magically start life 5 weeks early? No, maybe there is a grey area and we can all keep an open mind.

[–]TheRealYM-1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

your views about when life begins aren't set in stone

And neither are his. That's my whole point. He's unwavering on this issue that affects so many, and that's not a healthy way to go about it. I think it is stupid to think that way. Like I've been telling other people, it should be a conversation and a compromise

[–]pilotwithnoname2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's why it's a debate tho. There are people advocating abortion is ok up till the head is sticking out during delivery. Because it's "not a baby till it passes through a birth canal".

So their view isn't any less valid than his.

Edit, hell even NASA is looking for celluar "life" on Mars and beyond. How is a cell on Mars considered life...but a baseball sized embryo with a beating heart and hands and shit not life...I don't understand that at all.

[–]TheRealYM1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you look at my other response you'll see that I agree with you on that. If the fetus has already fully formed organs/heart/brain, then it should be considered a life.

sticking out during delivery

Yeah no that's ridiculous also. There are extremes to every argument. You say both opinions are valid, I disagree. My point is that sticking to an extreme belief and not willing to budge on it is unreasonable. That's how I feel about Shapiro.

[–]w4rmill 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Lol define progress Mr. Smartass, and how having anti-abortionist views is anti-progressive according to that definition.

[–]TheRealYM0 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's anti progressive because they're unwilling to compromise, which is how things get done

[–]w4rmill1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You did not answer my question. Also why are anti-abortionist views "dumb" and if so, which ones are dumber than the others?

[–]TheRealYM2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Sorry, I read that wrong. Progress is when you change a law or practice that is deemed outdated by a majority, and update or amend it with something that is also agreed upon by a majority. The process of this consists of debate and compromise. Shapiro is not willing to debate or compromise on this matter, only to "wreck" (taken from his countless YouTube vids that use this word) and lecture those on his unwavering opinion.

Edit: took out a bad argument at the end

[–]w4rmill2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I understand. In this case are anti-abortionist views really a majority? I don't know exactly how the issue presents itself in the US (I'm not American) but I assume it's something like 50/50. And yeah, I kind of agree with the sentiment that the "wrecking" is somewhat cringy. I also do not fully support his views on abortion. I wouldn't call them stupid though, just radical.

Thanks for explaining your position, sorry for being an ass about it.

[–]TheRealYM2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm not sure what the majority is right now. Like I said, I don't claim to be an expert. But yeah I'm glad we came to an understanding. And I admit I could have been less hostile about the whole thing as well.

[–]TheRealYM 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

If you watch his video on anti abortion you'll see that he thinks all abortion is killing babies, regardless of when its done. The difference between me and him is that I'm willing to have a discussion on when life starts in the womb, and he's not. So yes, that does make him stupid.

[–]darunia75 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So what is your cutoff point for abortion and why did you choose that point? Some people would like to error on the side of caution. There's so many arbitrary points people try to set and say anything before this is a clump of meaningless cells but all of a sudden after this point it's a human. I just don't understand why people like you think you have some supreme moral say in when a human becomes a human and everyone who disagrees is stupid. Unless of course you support abortion up to 9 months, which is just insane.

[–]TheRealYM 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not saying I have the supreme moral say in it, I think it should be something that is agreed upon by doctors and scientists. I'll tell you when I personally think the cutoff point is if you want, but it doesn't really matter because we're not the ones making those decisions. But to think that it should be an "all or nothing" situation is asinine.

[–]AKSasquatch 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's interesting. Abortion can be a complicated issue.

[–]TheRealYM 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]pilotwithnoname 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So when is the cut off?

[–]TheRealYM 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's not for me to say. I don't claim to know when the cutoff should be because I'm not an expert. If I had to say, then it should be when the fetus has fully formed all of its organs, heart, and brain. But Ben Shapiro's stance is that if you so much as take Plan B then it's killing a baby

[–]cckk0 57 points58 points59 points 9 years ago (47 children) | Copy Link

There is boy scouts, and there is girl scouts. They want to make it so girls can join both boy and girl scouts, but boys can only join boy scouts

[–]wallissonedu 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that doesn't seem right. I just love camping, and I think everyone could enjoy it on their own way. Specially kids

[–]Dravous 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

then they can just go camping without being part of the organization. the entire point of the boy scouts is to do it in a specific way. that being male centric and male only. it's purpose is for boys to interact with other boys and older male role models to become responsible and capable men, the camping is mostly just the medium through which this is taught. as such, girls have no place in it.

[+]Thesemenmaster -6 points-5 points-4 points 9 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

[–]Dravous 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

One of the ones who are awarded it basically just because your scout leaders give it to you just because you're there.

you really know nothing about Boy Scouts do you? you know how many merit badges you need to have? it's kind of like college classes where you need a certain number of elective ones, but then there's the required ones and some of those are HARD.

I remember spending hours talking with Mr. Juhtner for the citizenship ones, as sure as hell wasn't going to let me phone that in. there were essays I had to write that were longer than some I wrote in college and this was at age 15.

I wasn't the best swimmer and had to take extra classes(completely separate from the merit badge) just so I could handle the swimming badge classes, then I had to it all again the next year for lifesaving.

don't even get me started on the eagle project. and then there's getting grilled in the boards, who will WILL suss out if you're fit for it or not. all this took years, and it was a lot of fun. but it was a HELL OF A LOT of work too. if you really think you can get it "just because you're there", you know absolute shit about scouting.

[–]Thesemenmaster -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Well then I'm sorry you spent all that time and still weren't taught what the meaning of scouts is... It's about being a good citizen and respecting nature. Those aren't male-only traits. I've spent most of the morning texting three of my eagle scout buddies and they all agree with me. We aren't even close to social justice warriors or anything like that. The fact is that boyscouts teach you how to be a better human being, so why can't females be able to join? And don't say they have the girl scouts. That's a garbage organization. Two of my sister's were in it and they pretty much just push for sales of girl scout cookies. They don't learn anything.

Edit: when did you get eagle, btw? We think you may have gotten it 15-20 years ago and that's why you have this opinion. I'm talking about scouts as they are now and have been for the past 5-10 years.

[–]Dravous 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's about being a good citizen and respecting nature

no it isn't. it's about becoming a responsible, capable man. a part of that is respecting nature and understanding your place in society, but that isn't the primary point, and if that's what you got out of it then you had a shitty troop.

The fact is that boyscouts teach you how to be a better human being, so why can't females be able to join?

because it doesn't teach that, it teaches how to be a better man, which isn't the same as what one needs to learn to be a better woman.

And don't say they have the girl scouts. That's a garbage organization.

yeah, and we know why and we know we don't want it in ours.

[–]Thesemenmaster1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]Dravous1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

nope, my troop wasn't perfect but we basically did things the right way. you must have been one of the fools who couldn't figure it out and always had to use the book, but that won't help because those lessons, the most important lessons, are life lessons not in any book.

Ohhhh, NVM... you just dislike women in general. Awesome. Hope you have a fantastic life with that outlook.

now as far as this goes....I hate be this way but you're an idiot.

from earlier:

And don't say they have the girl scouts. That's a garbage organization. Two of my sister's were in it and they pretty much just push for sales of girl scout cookies. They don't learn anything.

yeah, they sold out for cookie money. THAT'S WHY they suck, and that's something the boyscouts avoided. but you changed that into "he hates women"? so yeah, you're an idiot. probably a projecting one too.

that aside, even if they were a decent organization like they used to be, the moment you mix boys and girls it just becomes a micro version of high school, which helps neither of them. both need to spend time learning and bonding without the confusion the opposite sex brings.

when I finished eagle I tried venturing, it wasn't the same because suddenly everyone was sizing each other up. everything else starting taking a backseat to drama. this is why venturing remains small while the boy scouts are still running strong.

When I was younger I was in the boy scouts. Then a girl joined. A quarter of the guys left, including me. I then attempted to join the girl scouts. They were NOT having that, saying that I was a perv trying to oogle some women. (I was 10.) So, my parents, both mom and dad, fought tooth and limb so I could join. How could a girl join the boy scouts, and not the other way around?? They leaders and all the other girls did NOT want me there, and they made it known. I didn't even want to be there, but I wanted to make a point. I stayed in there for two years, and over those two years, the girl quit the boy scouts about a year in because it wasn't for her (go figure.) and about half the girl scouts trickled out of the group I was in, and a few guys joined. Now, in my town, there are guys joining the girl scouts whenever a girl joins the boy scouts. It's an unwritten rule now. I think it was in my local newspaper at some point.

Equality bitch!

10 year old you was a total badass! Kudos to you and your parents.

[–]Swordeater 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hell yeah, my parents were great, they were very level-headed, and had a very good sense of what was right and what was wrong, with little to no bias and plenty of supporting evidence. I strive to be that way as much as I can.

a trans boy is a biological girl, typically... I don't understand the big deal. If a girl wants to be a boyscout, let her be a goddamn boyscout. The girlscouts let boys be girlscouts...

[–]sensorih 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

There needs to be a space where boys can be boys without any pressure to "impress girls" etc.

[–]DickHz 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At the rate this nonsense is going, girls will be in Greek fraternities, and guys will not be able to join sororities, and I obviously don't mean the coed educational fraternities. This whole equality thing is seemingly a one-way street. Fraternities, sororities, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are supposed to be separate so that young men and women and girls and boys can develop life skills, have fun and build relationships without the pressure and distractions of the opposite gender. Girls joining Boy Scouts for the sake of "equality" but not allowing boys to join Girl Scouts is like our of Animal Farm, some people are more equal than others.

[+]aedmark -27 points-26 points-25 points 9 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

even if those "girls" just want to be one of the "boys?" What's so bad with teaching our young generations to be more inclusive?

[–]MasterDJV 19 points20 points21 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

In my opinion, everybody, young and old, boy or girl, needs a little space, and time to vent. Some find hobbies, some find sports, and some youth find that with boy or girl scouts. If you begin mass allowing other genders into an organization that is gender specified in its NAME, then you lose that outlet. IMO, there are separate boy scouts and girls scouts for a reason. It gives youth a chance to be themselves with very similar other youth, outside of other activities, most of which, are boy/girl. Scouts may very well be the only separated organization they ever experience, and if you turn it into "boy and girl" scouts, then they lose one of the few places where a guy can be a guy in the outdoors , and same for girls.

tl;dr sometimes people need space from other genders, and scouting may be the last organization for youth like that.

[+]Dmeff -10 points-9 points-8 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't think you understand. A trans boy is someone who is a biological female but feels and behaves as a boy. That person wants to do, as you call it, "guys stuff". The trans boy doesn't want to "impress the boys" nor wants the boys to impress him. He just wants to be another guy in the pack.

(edit: and, not necesarily but most likely, the trans boy likes girls, so...)

[–]TUbit17 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's not a boy. You can't just claim that you're a different sex and act like everyone else is the ass for not agreeing. Just because this biological girl doesn't want the boys to impress her doesn't mean she won't have that effect on the boys. This is as dumb as that NBC host saying Serena Williams should be called the best tennis player in the world not the best female tennis player in the world.

[–]Dmeff-2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Would you allow a very very ugly and masculine lesbian woman into the boy scouts? She's guaranteed not to affect the boys nor be affected by them.

If not, why not?

[–]McNiggers_13 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Would you allow a very very ugly and masculine lesbian woman into the boy scouts

No. Because she's a woman. If you are a woman, have woman parts, or anything of that nature, the scout master should tell you to get the fuck out.

[–]TUbit171 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

How is she guaranteed not to? Just by the nature of being around any girl (attraction doesn't matter) boys will act differently. No I would not because I don't believe you can have a girl with no effect.

[–]Dmeff-3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

We all act different around people we find attractive, but if you act differently around all women you might be a bit immature.

[–]TUbit175 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

We're talking about children of course they're immature!! What a ridiculous comment.

[+]aedmark -12 points-11 points-10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

that's all well and good but the implication here is that the boyscouts would be flooded with girls and, like, I don't really think that's mathematically logical

[–]pilotwithnoname 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then start your own all inclusive group!

[–]Get_it_together_dawg 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Sure, but what is so bad about having designated clubs for boys and girls? Both scout groups don't say anything bad about the other sex so it's not some sort of negatively motivated reason for division.

For some reason, the underlying assumption in this topic is that this division is intrinsically bad.

[–]aedmark -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

no the underlying assumption is that suddenly one group would be flooded with the opposite gender and that's just statistically untrue. How many people are trans? How many people are scouts? The bracket gets quite small when you think about it.

[–]Get_it_together_dawg 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I may not have your entire position here.

Are you saying that trans boys (biologically female) should be allowed in boy scouts and vice versa? If so, I agree with you.

Or are you saying that girls who identify as girls should be allowed into boy scouts and vice versa? In which case, I disagree with you because it seems fairly obvious the group tone and dynamic will change in response to including both genders. I think it's totally okay for girls and boys to want to embrace non-traditional gender roles, but I also think it's okay for private groups to be allowed to celebrate the more traditional ones as well.

[–]aedmark1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yes to the first, no for the second.

[–]Get_it_together_dawg1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Gotcha, well it looks like we are in agreement then.

[–]mackuhronee points 9 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

The point is the point of Boy Scouts is that it's a place for male development, and people should be allowed to run their organizations how they please, included only allowing one biological sex to participate. Not everything in life is fair, but everyone is at least granted fair opportunity. If someone wants Scouts with boys and girls, they're free to create their own scout group. No ones telling them "you can't go camping with boys" they're just saying "we are going camping and you can't come with us." Shouldn't they be allowed to say that?

[–]aedmark -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes but the problem comes with those born biologically female or male and identify or are otherwise mentally convinced and determined they are supposed to be the other gender. It happens, not a ton, but it happens.

[–]mackuhronee points 9 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

So if I'm running an organization (Boy Scouts) and I think it's best for my members to exclude people who are convinced they are boys but not biologically boys, then don't I still have the right to do that?

[–]aedmark1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

nobody said it wasn't a right. Just would be nice, is all.

[–]mackuhronee1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Fair enough, respect your opinion, I was assuming you were trying to say they should have to. My bad

[–]aheadofmytime 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Are you the girl in the picture?

[–]aedmark -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

uh, nope, just think we should normalize the idea that sometimes boys are really girls on the inside and vice versa. But sure. mock and downvote me for being open minded. I certainly never said they didn't have a right to exclude the opposite gender.

[–]aheadofmytime 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Should we let boys compete against girls in sports?

No thanks. In my 12 years of scouting in Canada, we didn't exclude girls, we actually had a lot of girls joining our scout group because we did better things and actually went camping. if you still believe this scouting-segregation you are stuck in the 50's. honestly, this sub sometimes makes me sad. I'm an airline pilot. I gaurentee I have traveled to at least 10 more countries than you have. You are basing your opinion on absolutely no knowledge of me whatsoever. I, on the other hand posted my comment because the op was being a douchebag. You can piss off too.

I've spent 2 years on 5 different continents, so I really doubt it. Also, you may fly into and fly out of other countries, but do you ever take the time to experience the culture and get to know the people? If you're an airline pilot you probably fly in, go to a hotel and sleep, wake up and fly out.

In other words don't try to impress me with your bullshit. You accuse someone from the UK of being smug, but you're the only arrogant, smug fuck I see in this thread.

I've spent 2 years on 5 different continents, so I really doubt it.

Ahh moving the goal posts, a common leftist strategy. You originally said I should visit some places, once I said I have (and I still bet I have visited more) you move the posts to say length of time is now the factor thats important. Whatever.

but do you ever take the time to experience the culture and get to know the people? If you're an airline pilot you probably fly in, go to a hotel and sleep, wake up and fly out.

You have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. Just stop.

In other words don't try to impress me with your bullshit. You accuse someone from the UK of being smug, but you're the only arrogant, smug fuck I see in this thread.

And yet again, here we see a frustrated, angry and hostile leftist throwing a fit. I don't care what you think, I won't care what you think, people like you are cancer. You inject your anger into situations that have none, and try to leverage a moral high ground based on some weak standard like "time spent abroad". Good luck with that. Personal attacks will get you far, just maybe not to a happy, fulfilled and enjoyable life.

Your anger and tears fuel me. You have no arguments, you have no consistency, you have emotion, and lash out in a petty fashion akin to a 4 year old that doesn't have the mental capacity to form your opinions into an intelligible argument. This hysterical behavior from you and people like you just makes me fucking laugh. You claim the moral high ground, yet you haven't the intelligence to back it up. Good day, and good luck to you.

(Cue another irrational, hateful and angry response filled with expletives and no consistency)
