If it does poorly: "Well that's because of sexism in the market!"

Just make a crime caper movie with a female cast, or I don't know have a mixed cast becauz muh equality, like the Italian Job or The Seven Thieves.

It's a spin off, not a gender-swapped remake. They're using the same trope of a heist movie, but instead of men they're using women. That's it. The movie could still be good or bad, but I don't think gender has anything to do with that.

They already made two sequels to a remake, so any misgivings I have about this are related to the quality of the story. I'm actually kind of interested to see how they handle women playing roles that have been usually geared towards male actors/characters.

I, for one, will simply refuse to watch any of these movies and am hoping that they crash and burn. It's not so much the sex reversal as the feminist nature of it and the cultural appropriation aspect. If we didn't live in such a feminist age and this was being done out of creative rather than political reasons, i would feel differently.

Just like with the Ghostbusters remake, I predict this will fail mainly because the original relies on a cast of rather flawed characters, and I've yet to see any female character in any media be flawed in the same way and be portrayed in the same way.

For example, a lot of female characters are flawed in my eyes, but the script/acting/directing doesn't seem to view it that way. "It's funny that she failed because she was arrogant and overconfident" and such doesn't really happen the way it does with male characters.

Wtf does this have to do with men's rights? Good or bad, Hollywood came out with another sequel/prequel/reboot, but took a creative twist with genders. The original with Sinatra, et. al wasn't sexist, because of the all-male cast selection (maybe perhaps because of the specific casting selections). Neither was the first reboot (or the other two shitty sequels) nor is this one sexist.

Changing essential parts of a story show lack of respect to the original. If the original source describes the people in a book/movie, then the people should be potrayed as close to that as possible.

If harry potter suddenly was a blonde lesbian girl or gandalf suddenly was afro-american, that would just be wrong. Not wrong on it's own, but wrong in relation to the original.

And if you make a movie without respecting the source at all, I don't think the movie will be nice.

Their trying to replicate the Male cinema consumer in a female demographic. I think it's a fundamental misunderstanding of how gender affects stimuli response.

Take music a sensory stimuli where males and females process and respond to in similar manner. You see this similarity reflected in the market where male vs female concert attendances are similar though their preferences in performers and categories diverge.

Men and women are more different in how they respond to and process visual stimuli. So while action the cacophony of visuals that tend to excite men it doesn't have the same effect on most women, many of whom like older audiences simply get confused by to much going on visually. More men get a kinda High from watching action that kind action that's also found in sports. Movies tailored toward female audiance tend to be less visually stimulating relying on more dialogue to trigger a desired emotional response. I don't think Ideologues of any kind have a place in marketing a branch of business where they literally have what people respond to down to a science.

I still don't see the problem. Oceans 11 with Clooney and the gang was a re-imagining of an old Rat Pack movie, so it wasn't that original to begin with. Sandra Bullock is a fine actress, there's not a whole lot more to do with the current Oceans dynamic, time for a refresh.

The sad thing is, this could be a fun movie if they decided to get creative and have a writer do a plot for a new movie with new characters et al. As is, it's just pointless drivel.
