2/2/3 custody?

2/2/3 is appropriate for a 5yo and 2yo. 7/7 is appropriate once all the kids are in kindergarten.

My Ex initially wanted 1/1 (yes, changing custody every night). Fortunately, both sets of lawyers shut that down quickly. We “compromised” by going with 2/2/3 schedule. My goal had been to have at least a 5 day schedule of some kind, to allow the most consistency for the kids. It took awhile but I was finally able to convince the Ex that 7/7 schedule was best for the kids. I was able to find some articles about it and shared w her. After a few months she then finally decided that 7/7 schedule was best for the kids, totally HER own idea. I didn’t care whose idea it was, I just wanted to allow the kids to have a week uninterrupted with chaotic exchanges.

I much prefer the 7/7 schedule, the older kids say they do as well. Younger ones don’t have an opinion yet.

I think the fewer exchanges you have the better, especially when dealing with a high conflict divorce and Ex.

So we have 2/2/3 on paper but right now we are practicing 7/7 when the kids started school again they voiced that they didn’t like the 2/2/3 because it screwed up with them being able to focus on school when they have to switch locations during the weekday so we swap them once a week right now. The kids like it but the ex hates it

The advantage of the 7/7 is that you can travel alone for an extended period. Just 2 days without kids doesn't give you that kind of flexibility.

I've only been doing 7/7 since this started.

2/2/3 and 7/7 both have massive scheduling problems. Not when the kids are 5 and 2, but in three years when the kids are 8 and 5 and you want to sign them up for activities, that's when you have issues.

2/2/3 was great for the first year or two, my son was 2 then. After we all got used to new status 7/7 was quite natural transition - actually requested by the little fellow, to everyone's relief.

It is not uncommon for us to jump in on others week (as expats we are both far away from support network). Overall I would say it's smooth as it can be. Plan is to move to 14/14 sometime when puberty starts hitting.

The crux is the 2 yo. At that age frequent and meaningful contact with both parents is paramount. 7/7 is not in the cards until the youngest is at the very least 6-7 yo. Depending on the judge You could probably get a 2/2/5/5 which gives each parent 5 straight days with each parent every week.

I prefer a 2/2/5/5 schedule. it's similar to the 2/2/3 but each parent keeps the same nights every week. But it has less transfers, and it gives you time to go on short trips without coordination with the other parent.

My son is 5 and I'm doing 2/2/3 with my ex. He's not in kindergarten until August so we have no school schedules to worry about yet. I hated the seven on/seven off schedule. It was just way too much time without seeing him for me personally. With 2/2/3 I get enough time to take care of other things when he's with his mom but still get to see him frequently. I understand school making it hard to continuously switch so I guess we'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

I've been on the 2/2/3 since my son was 5, he's 9 now, and it's worked out pretty well. The biggest reason and pro is that I get to see my son almost every day. The cons, as some people pointed out, is just consistency. My ex doesn't parent and constantly has things come up where the schedule needs to change so it get's a little confusing for a kid to keep track of.

Pretty awesome so many of you are getting 50/50. My soon to be ex is lying every chance she gets to keep me from getting overnights w our 18m old, even stopped weaning her off milk just to use that as an excuse.

Sounds amazing to me. I'm supposed to get 1 overnight a month but she my ex has even denied those since Sept. For no other reason other than because she can.
