It's my opinion that 50% are divorced, 40% married but unhappty, 5% married but content, and 5% married but happty. Go check out the martiage sub! People need to face the fact that every relationship gets to an 'out of love" stage. Long term marriages happen because both are independent from each other. Yes, they go to functions together. I also believe that women now earn their own money and don't feel forced to stay in a marriage. I read something that currently 75% - 90% of divorces are imitiated by women.

If marriages are legally binding, they need to be 7 yeats long. After that 7 years, you move on to someone new or you don't sign a new contract. 🤣🤣

Believe it or not, I still find myself believing in the idea of marriage, despite everything I've been through. It's the Family Law attorneys and the Family Courts that have poisoned everything. Marriage has simply become another revenue stream for scumbag lawyers, just like parenthood.

Also, I'm no sociologist. But clearly things have changed in the last 100 years. In your grandparent's era, people who once got married, stayed married. Today, there's no-fault divorce, social media, high-visibility family law attorneys, unlimited porn, a more transient society, no long-term factory jobs, feminism, "normalizing" of divorce, horror stories for men on the internet (like this sub), and so many other things.

As long as the attorneys and anti-family legislatures are in charge, I say let marriage die. I think its death is bad for society in general, long-term. But if this stupid country wants to kill itself, so be it. Let's have a nation of single men, no families, and kids raised by single moms, and we'll see how well that turns out.

Don’t romanticize what marriage was like 100 years ago. Back then the guy got the girl pregnant and then they were forced to get married. There were plenty of loveless, unhappy marriages. My grandfather treated my grandmother like shit and she was forced to stay with him because she couldn’t support herself on her own. The problem with modern marriage is that society has changed. People are living longer. Women no longer need a man to take care of them financially. The institution of marriage needs to change. People should have the option to get married for x amount of years and then decide whether to renew. Prenuptial agreements should be widely used. These changes could help “fix” marriage, but I doubt anything will change any time soon.

50% of marriages end in divorce. 10% end in suicide or incarceration. 30% are in varying forms of misery such as cuckolding, staying together for finances etc. So reality over time (about 10 years) you have a 90% failure rate. And, second and third marriages fair worse!

I have come to the conclusion marriage is just a terribly archaic concept. Did it make sense when people lived until 30 and lived in isolated little communities working on farms? Maybe, but now when we have access to all of humanity in the palms of our hands, not so much.

I will say it at least taught me a lot about myself, but I'd be lying if I didn't look back with a giant WTF looming over the experience.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Marriage is not only stupid because it expensive and a potential liability, the biggest issue I have with marriage is that it is a contract without expiration. Who said that love or relationships are meant to last a lifetime? Just a human fantasy that the world is supposed to work like that and we try to force it.. Guess what; it doesn't work more often than not.

There is nothing beneficial for a man to get married. Period. Divorce only benefits the woman. My ex profited from the divorce getting the house, refinancing it to remodel it, and buying and paying for a brand new car. She also became debt free for the first time in her life as I was saddled with all the credit card debt. I moved into a small apartment and was forced to take on a 2nd job to help pay for child support, daycare etc. And surprise, surprise, just a few months after the divorce was final, she has a guy she met online move in after talking to him for 3 months. Yeah, I might enjoy the company of a woman, but never marrying again. Also, no cohabitation either. Keep everything separate.
