Of all the things my STBXW has done in the last year to hurt me, this one tops the cake for me. We have two children together. Our 8 y.o. is hers from a previous relationship and I adopted him last year and our 2 y.o. She is telling me now that she wants me take primary custody of our 2 y.o and for her to take our oldest. She says she can’t be the type of mother she needs to be because of her mental health and how wild he can be (he definitely has his moments.) I feel like her family has always favored our oldest son, including her. I’ve always made it a point to never pick favorites and now I’m worried what this may do to my youngest child. Our oldest seems to like the idea overall.

This situation would benefit me greatly because she said she would have no problem with me moving back “home” which is two hours away and where my family is located. It would be a much lower cost of living and I would likely be able to pay off all debt from my portion of the proceeds of our house (originally intended on keeping.) However, it bothers me to no end, how without little regard for our son, she is ready to make this decision. I tried to have her reconsider this idea, but it only makes her angry to where she hangs up on me when talking.

I’m just at a loss, but I guess I really shouldn’t be. She has meltdowns generally every week it is her turn to watch our children. In this weird, reversed scenario, is there any way to have a parent maintain more custody?
