Amicably divorced. 50% joint legal/physical custody of 1 5yo. Divorced 1 month, separated and co-parenting 1.5 years now. We co-parent well. She's gay now and has had her gf move in and got engaged already.

I hate this town. I work remotely. I make a decent amount. I'm grateful for what I have, but I moved her for my ex's job (and we separated soon after moving... 🤔). All my friends were through her, and they all vanished. I have a few local friends from the hobbies I've been starting.

It's a small town, with lots of crime and a demographic where I don't feel I fit in. Not to mention the political differences locally and state level. Don't really want my tax dollars supporting it.

I've been dating a lot. Lots of meetups, a couple flings. Maybe I can find someone here, but using travel mode on the dating apps -- I can see I'd have a better pool of woman by moving to another state where my family is. Or where my best friend lives. And I'd have family/friends nearby for support.

But what are the repercussions for my child, and co-parenting? I'm not happy here but I don't know how to determine how much to sacrifice of my life for my kid.

I pay $400/month in child support. It appears from the schedule I'd be required to pay about $1,300/month if I relinquished custody. I can afford it but it seems insane.
