How do you deal with your thoughts when your going through a rough couple of weeks?
These past 2 weeks have been really depressing. I just can’t seem to get out of my funk and I’m not sure what to do at this point. I just spent an hour crying and I haven’t done that since we decided to separate last year.
I’ve been living in an apartment for a year and my divorce was finalized in January. I make good money and have my kids 50/50 but I think that’s going to go up soon. My ex is already in a serious relationship and she spends most of her weekends with him which is fine except she leaves my girls alone, so they come here.
My problem is I’m not sure what I should be doing with myself. I feel aimless. My girls are older and don’t need me as much and the family I had is gone. I have 3 close friends, 1 lives 12 hours away, the other is married and the last one will be moving across the state in the next few months to be closer to her daughter. I’ve been on several dates but I just don’t think i’m ready for that yet.
What I’m doing right now to break this depression is going for runs and the gym. I’ve decided to go back to college and am working on my resume because I would like to be able to move at some point (Having future plans helps). I’m also going to join a run group to help socialize more.
Do you guys have any recommendations for methods to get out of the funk? I’m hoping someone knows a trick that I haven’t thought of.
Edit 1: Thank you all for your perspectives. Most of the time I'm Ok with where I'm at and what my future may be. Today was different though and I felt like I was having a panic attack and struggled to recover. I have some interventions that can work like going for a run, going to the coffee shop and doing work there, deep breathing or taking inventory of my body (a lot of inward focusing). These sometimes help to break the spiral but today it wasn't working.
My oldest daughter and I went to see Bullet Train and I came out feeling better and that helped to re-direct my thoughts. Also I had texted my friend earlier telling her what was going and she told me it's important sometimes to just feel my emotions and not try to analyze where they are coming from. So I'm working on that.
