Over 50, lost the house and the savings?

Do you have a plan to recover and retire?

Right now I'm looking at least age 65 with forced relocation to somewhere cheaper. I think I'll have a fixed income of $6k / mo with possible colas. Definitely doable. But it'll be a depressing less lively retirement town... a lonely life amongst people waiting to die. I'll be forced to leave my kids behind.

I might buy a condo with $150,000 down at some point. It depends on what my payment would look like vs rent. Right now it's $5500 vs $3500 in my area.

I think rebuilding with a new wife is out. (a) once bitten twice shy (b) most women are often better off and want prenups. There are plenty of cashiers out there. And there are plenty of C-suite women. But finding someone who makes a similar salary who wants to build is amazingly difficult. That's before the "spark" stuff even comes up.

I'm playing around with the idea of going under the table with a side hustle and just skipping taxes (like everyone else does to afford this area). Just not sure what that would look like. I'm a software developer. Not sure how long I can stay sharp. That worries me a lot.
