lol what has Father’s Day been up until this point? I don’t even get surprised anymore. I didn’t get shit this year but it’s alright.

Nah, not overreacting... you just haven't gotten numb to it yet.

Though I've only celebrated Father's Day for the 5th year in a row, it's quickly going the same way as my birthday. Either the ex treated me to a meal out and found some way to ruin it, or didn't acknowledge it. She expected everything to go flawlessly for her special days, but mine were always expendable.

Now that our situationship ended for good for the umpteenth time, I've been pretty clear about not wanting any gifts going forward, or even spending those days with her. As for my kid, well, they're too young for now, so I guess I'll just see what happens.

Just to clarify, I don't expect them to spend their own money. I paid for their mom's stuff. I expect for her not to buy something for me "from them". If they can't even sso much as know what the gift is, then it's all from her which makes me hate the gift. I am not mad at my kids, this is 100 percent on her.

I bought my wife a Mother’s Day gift of a beautiful plant and card. I wrote a personal message to say that despite everything she was a great person. I reminded the teenage children to buy her something and give her cards.

Roll the clock forward to Fathers Day and I received fuck all from her or my children. It made me sad.

I used to not get my dad in a married household Jack shit for Father’s Day. He is a great dad. I didn’t have $20 to do anything. I’d probably ask him for $20 to see a movie with friends Father’s Day weekend. Still rude but that’s teenagers.

20 years later I hook him up with $200 golf equipment.

File this one in don’t take it personally and let it go.

Honestly, no, you are not over reacting at all. I will say it seems your daughters are a bit entitled, but so are the vast majority of teenagers these days. If they cannot remember one day from the entire year, definitely disrespectful. To have their mother cover for them is even worse imho.

Despite their ages, they're still "kids". You can't force them to act or feel a certain way. All you can do is try to be a good role model and hope they follow your example.

I remember a time when I was around the same age. My father got mad at me because I didn't get him a birthday present. I didn't really see him too much, and barely had any money, so a card was all I could really do. Knowing that he was upset about something material like that made me even angrier about the situation.

Don't take it out in your kids, just do your best to foster a good relationship with them.

Look at it this way, some men don't even get to see their family, get a gift and many other privileges that we have. So let's look on the bright side of life.

I speak not from experience but from seeing how my sister and ex-SIL grew up. At that age yea that’s normal. A little uncaring but they are gonna be like that at that age. Just be there for them and once they pass that phase they’ll always remember that.
