Walk away! That is not your family anymore. I had a good relationship with my in laws but that soon changed when they began enabling my ex-wife's cringe behavior. Now I don't even acknowledge them because I feel betrayed by them too. It sucks but it's best to cut ALL of her family. Trust me, it's for your own good.

It depends on the situation, I have been together for 10 years (not married) but we have two kids together. I still speak to my in-laws every now and then. They're the grandparents to my children, I would never try to come in between that for the sake of my kids.

In the other hand I have been a part of their lives too, in the past 10 years we shared some great times; the birth of my kids, birthdays, holidays and more.. But also shared some sad moments; the loss of family members, illness and other stressful things that come across in life.

This isn't something you just erase because the love relationship doesn't exist anymore! :)

Nope!!! Once I divorced my crazy x-wife I cut ties with them too. It was a shame because I loved my in-laws, but that's life.

12 years with my ex, we didn't really had a family life without in laws, always around on a daily basis. One week we're all in vacation together, everyone saying how happy they are about all of us being there, spending actually most of my time talking with them my ex being the coldest ever. Well the next she's leaving and I'm gone from their lives. How great.

It’s a bad idea if you ever plan on meeting another woman. Women have an impossibly difficult time with handling former connections (of yours, emphasis on yours) and likely would react negatively without a disconnection from your former life.

Interesting topic. Newley separated so curious without answers. For me, it’s my STBX (we have kids) that will likely maintain the relationship with my brother and his wife and their kids.

In laws spent $60K paying for my ex’s legal expenses in an attempt to bankrupt me in our divorce. They Are attestations against me having any parenting time. So in the interest of staying a father 50% of the time I will never have a relationship with my in laws ever again. Told I was loved and what a great father and provider I was and treated like family until I found out my ex was a lesbian. Then it was all lies and trying to get rid of me.

Probably not a good idea but everyone is different. In-laws will always side with their blood and your ex will probably be pissed if you continue to see them and try to sabotage it. I had a great relationship with my ex in-laws...did everything for them when their own son didn't do anything and my ex did nothing but fight with her mom. Once divorced, I was told they were shit talking me to their friends to make themselves feel better about their crazy daughter. That was the end of it for me.

I think it depends on whether you and your stbxw have kids together. If not, it's probably better to sever ties and move on.

I guess it works for some folks, but IMO it's not worth it. I always got along great with my MIL but after the divorce the ex would use her to hound me for money, favors, etc. It's also potentially going to make healing more difficult because your ex will come up in conversation regularly when dealing with the in-laws. I'd pass man.

Not my inlaws but about 90% of my ex-wife's family sided with me and we still and a couple I talk nearly weekly with 2+ years later (and she came from a large family), most of them realized she was a psycho narcissist before I did and cut her out of their lives.

38 years. Very close with her huge family. I left. I sent each one a letter or text about our split and they each responded positively . But I don’t expect yo be able to talk to any but prolly three of the family from here on out. Sucks but it’s the way it is.
