If your dad has 3 kids and she has been a SAHM, the entire time...he needs to get a lawyer immediately if he doesn't have already have one and it needs to be the most expensive one he can afford.

Unfortunately your father is about to get ass gapped in this divorce. He's going to lose far, far more than just half of the house.

Shit...there is a very real possibility that she ends up with the house in order to raise the kids in the marital home, while your father pays for everything while renting a basement to sleep in from an elderly lady because that's all he can afford. And yes, I've personally seen this EXACT scenario play out.

She's going to get MUCH more than half. He'll be paying alimony & child support. How many years married, how old are kids. The most important part is HER accustomed to living. He'll have to make sure she can continue living without him better than she lived with him. Sad but true. NEVER GET MARRIED

Guys, relax, it doesn't always have to be like this. This happens to men who assume they are screwed and are afraid to put in the fight. Never ever give in to a scorned woman's childish demands! Screw that nonsense. Show her those balls of steel and watch her change her false entitled bs attitude. If you hire the right power attorneys, they can turn literally any situation around not only so he keeps half his stuff but keeps everything and the woman gets the door shut on her ass but it's going to cost him a lot of dough. Trust me on this one.

You're in Utah. Oof, one of the worst states for men's rights. I know, I used to live there. I've since moved to Arizona, one of the best states for men's rights, and it's just right across the border!

Yep, Utah is a 'community property' state. Everything that he's gained since being married, she owns 50% of. This means that either she has to be able to buy him out of the house (that is, pay him 50% of the difference between the mortgage and the value of the home) and still be able to make payments, or he has to buy her out (same story but swap people), or they have to sell the house and split the proceeds 50/50, or they have to come up with some other arrangement that they can both agree to. The former three options are what a judge would force, but if they can agree to, for instance, let her take over the house without buying him out, but in exchange he pays no spousal support, that could be a workable deal. Not one a judge would propose, but one the judge would sign off on.

There's also child support. There's no negotiation there. There is only the calculator.

Standard in Utah is the 'primary caregiver' (virtually always the woman regardless of whether or not she was working; it's only ever the man if he wasn't working at all and she was) gets full custody and the other one only gets every other weekend 'visitation.'
