I’m in the middle of a divorce and trying to decide whether to settle or go to trial, and I’m having a hard time figuring out what’s actually “fair” vs what I might be giving up just to avoid the fight.

My attorney is pretty focused on risk and keeps reminding me that outcomes in court can be unpredictable. I get that, but it also leaves me feeling like I don’t have a clear sense of whether the current offer is reasonable or if I’d likely do better (or worse) if I pushed it to trial.

For context, this is a medium to high asset situation with kids involved, and there are a few sticking points around asset division and ongoing financial support. Nothing totally extreme, but enough that the gap between positions feels meaningful to me.

I’m also feeling the strain of the process itself and trying to weigh the emotional and financial cost of continuing to fight vs just getting to an outcome and moving on.
