I think it's a really gross and reductive way to view people in general.

In my experience people are capable of seeing others as whole people and can be interested in a whole spectrum of relationships from platonic to sexual.

We don't need a supply and demand model to relate to one another.

Science depends on reliable replicable measurements. It’s difficult to do that with social interactions. So, SMV is pseudoscience at best.

What the fuck is a sexual market? Is that like a place where people, usually women are kept in cages and sold for sex? Viewing dating as a marketplace is so dehumanizing and disgusting, whether it’s casual or long term. I’ve found my best experiences where when I placed no expectations on the outcome and enjoyed spending time with a woman on a moment by moment basis. I wasn’t showing off my “status” or “social proof”or any of that bullshit.

Sure. It exists for people that see relationships as transactions. And if you want a partner who tallies your worth based on a superficial capitalistic value then you should buy into it too. If you don’t want a a partner like that I’d suggest not buying into it yourself. The big secret is that you can design your own reality and once you do you will attract like minded individuals. But if you have a “goal” in mind that exists outside the specificity of an individual connection, ie: goal: get laid, get partner, it would be more beneficial to engage in a market value style system to accomplish any goal that it doesn’t matter what type of person can help you reach it.

Different traits have different levels of appeal to different groups of people. Some traits appeal to a broad group of people. Thats the closest thing there is to "sexual market value." E.g. being tall has some appeal to many women.

There are some qualities that are high in demand and low in supply, but that list would include a lot of the most wholesome qualities, such as kindness, consideration, integrity.

Unfortunately the most shallow qualities are also the ones that are the most immediately apparent. It is hard to tell if the person is really kind or just trying to impress you, but easy to tell if they are hot or not. Economic theory assumes people have perfect information, so the better the information the more things act like a market. TRP tends to obsess over people's looks. They assume everyone to be shallow, and if that assumption were correction then dating would act like a market.

In reality a lot of the most important qualities are unclear at first, and in order to discover if that person actually has them you have to spend a lot of effort, time, and often money on them. Some relationships are the result of chasing sunk costs. Looking for a better alternative is pretty risky since you could fail to find anyone, or find someone and get rejected, and you could lose the person that is on the back burner.

Imagine you were shopping for an item and you compared multiple stores, but you could only visit each store once. Deciding if you need to move on to the next store or just buy from the current store would be an important decision. You could come up with some sort of mathematical model to explain it, but that wouldn't be quite like a Economics 101 market.

That isn't even to mention compatibility, all the qualities that are valuable but only valuable to certain people. Shared interests is the obvious example and studies have shown shared values to be incredibly important long term. There is even some science showing that pheromones exist but they attract you towards people with matching genes rather than superior genes. A couple needs to have a good interpersonal dynamic, and that isn't as simple as SMV suggests.

I somewhat like the analogy. As an amateurish economist, I LOOOOOOVE breaking down the SMV theory to TRP followers who fail to see the larger picture of said analogy.

I am a seller, in the SMP (sexual marketplace).

As a/the seller, I can choose/decide which sector within the SMP I want to advertise my service.. The service, being myself.

Given my innate and acquired traits, I can survey either the local, national and/or international SMP.

If I was divorced, I could stay in my local SMP since it is filled with plenty of age-appropriate single and divorced men who also have children (like I do). Then again, it could also be of my better interest to just date casually or expand my search to the suburbs or the adjacent smaller cities.

It's not science per say, but it does hold some weight to it, as long as you have a good understanding of how markets work. For instance, supply and demand - if there is a big imbalance in an area, the less numerous gender will have a better time finding someone. And for the people keen on "seeing people as a whole", being a nice, pleasant to be around and empathetic person can very well be an advantage and make dating easier. It all comes down to how you choose to understand it, and I wouldn't say it is a scientific concept either.

People like to pretend, but some people are generally ( had to say generally here) , more desirable than others. Good looking. strong, financially well off men are more sought after, you can see this in women's mate choices. Young, attractive, fertile women are more sought after. Give a 35 year old man a choice between an attractive 25 year old and and an attractive 35 year old, 9 time out of 10 he is going with the 25 year old. Posts that tell the truth here get down voted, I'm just saying what is easily observable in the real world.

I think redpill does have this dark triad truth correct but go overboard with it. At the end of the day the top 10% of men get 80% of women on tinder or any dating app.

A pretty young woman will have plenty of guys hitting her up while the rich 6 ft tall successful man who is the big boss get smiles and flirts by all the women in the office.

Some people take it too far but it is grounded in reality to an extent. In every species in existence, the process of natural selection takes it's toll. It's what made us how we humans are today, from why we experience love, fear and anger to why we have 5 fingers. Natural selection works on the basis of "survival of the fittest", meaning those who are more well-equipped to survive and reproduce will go on to do so while those who are less so will reproduce less and be phased out. In the manosphere, "sexual market value" here is actually synonymous to the "fitness" of a person for reproduction. Those with more desirable traits for reproduction and/or survival/functioning and flourishing within society will in general reproduce more often - as natural selection goes. This is widely accepted and ultimately common sense, and just because people here aren't fond of the red pill space in general doesn't mean everything people in the space preach is untrue. "Sexual Market Value" is a very real phenomenon that anyone living in the real world and not on the internet can see plain as day, though this name for the process is a very shallow one as the connotations of "Market" reduces people to very one-dimensional objects.

I think there is some merit to it.

I'm a fairly average looking women. When I'm out with my much more attractive friends, men aren't really paying attention to my humor or kindness as much as they are to my friends looks. I get ignored a lot in these instances, but it's fine because they are all initial interactions. If I continually put myself into more social interactions with these people, at some point, they start notice that I'm a fun person or that I have interesting views. Resultingly, these qualities end up being just as attractive to the guys, but it just takes more time and effort.

It's the same with guys. Yes, I think the SMV is important for that initial attention, but after a while other factors can compensate and outweigh it.

That's why I think apps like Tinder aren't good for the majority of people. It puts too much emphasis on the superficial that you end up playing into it whether you mean to or not. We need to start socializing again.

I know a lot of data suggests that women's sexual value decreases as they age. But I have seen women in their 40s and 50s getting laid as much as they did in their 20s. The only difference is women become pickier. So even if they get enough attention, she will only respond to few.
