Learn from my (mother's) mistake: I moved out and lived by myself with no roommates at 20 and my mom decided it would be a good idea to get really friendly with the front desk staff of my building and let them all know I live by myself and to "look out" for me. Well, a man working the front desk took a liking to me and memorized my whole schedule and I started to suspect he let himself into my place when I wasn't there. I noticed things in my apartment were moved slightly but thought I might just be paranoid. Then, one day, I was home at a time when i'm not normally home (my class got cancelled that morning) and I caught him trying to get into my apartment!! I yelled through the door and asked what he was doing and he said "shining the doorknob". Yeah, okay, sure buddy. A few other men in the building figured out that I was living there alone because my mom wouldn't stop talking to my neighbors so they would try to talk to me to "be friends" ugh. At some point someone busted the lock on on of my doors. The building had really high security so it must have been one of my, most likely male, neighbors. So ladies!! If you live by yourself don't let anyone in your life out you!

I just say I live with 3 other people. He doesn’t need to know what he doesn’t need to know. My mother taught me when I was young, if anyone asks if someone else is in the house, to say yes and that they just can’t come to the phone right now. Never evade the question or say that you’re alone.

I personally always ask if guys live at home, with roommates or by themselves almost immediately in a text convo, because it tends to be a deal breaker for me 🤷🏻‍♀️
