I’m a black woman in a great relationship with a nonblack man after wasting way too much time being hyperfocused on black men and how I can appeal to them.

You gotta get over that.

It’s not what you want to hear, I know. But this is a point that’s constantly rehashed in every black female subreddit. We already know how they feel so now we have to move forward.

There are millions of men in the world. Get in where you fit in and stop placing men of a certain race on a pedestal. Brown men aren’t thinking this hard about you, I promise.

You are a woman, a beautiful woman. Start acting like it, start talking to yourself like you’re the shit. Stop telling yourself you’re ugly or not worthy. You have your own unique beauty and other women have theirs.

You are a woman, don’t forget this. The ball is in your court.

Sis all these XY people are Fugazi. Pick the best one and don’t focus so much on race. You just have to move on and recognize these guys are likely insecure little boys who think marrying someone white will help their feelings of inferiority caused by white supremacy. It won’t.

I'm a vet. I wouldn't worry about the guys in your platoon. Or company. Or... any of them, really. Military in general attracts... people that are not quite top shelf. For the most part. Some of the skid marks will wash out before graduation even occurs. Or they get medically separated because they break down (physically or mentally). Some branches are a better than others. I had much better experiences with the women in general, though. There are a handful of guys that are okay, but I had borderline disdain for a lot of them because of the attitudes they had, and just general immaturity. I WISH I had been at a basic where they were still segregated by gender. Would have been much more proficient and less shenanigans. But I did meet a couple guys that became good friends, so... I guess it worked out in the end.

Please don't even think about "dating" (because what kind of dating life would that be) in boot or your AIT (whatever the equivalent in the Navy is). It's hard enough without that drama.

I've totally found this to be true. Americanized brown guys want to date white women, fobby brown guys can be hella pervy and misogynistic. (a small minority of both of those types are cool, but yall get what i'm saying).

Aaaaand...tbh men of every race have their issues, their misogyny is just different.

As a brown woman can't say I disagree. I made this interesting observation a few years back at a wedding of a very well to do family that half their sons had married white women. All the men who did married barely qualified women while all the brown women married into the same family came with hefty dowries, family wealth and good jobs. The standards for Indian women are way higher than a white woman.

Can I ask where you are from that you find this is the case?

I'm a black woman but I've noticed that African men (most of them atleast) will almost exclusively date/marry women from the same country (or other black women). Even the youth who grew up in the Western world will usually date black women from the same or adjacent ethnic background.

The problem is that black women have the worst, most horrific PR on planet earth. Period.

People’s negative perceptions (stereotypical views) have been solidified because of the media and reality tv. Lost opportunities, and overall poor treatment has been the result.

Now I see people like Lizzo are being pushed as idols, it’s so sad to watch. I cringe when I turn on the tv during prime time hours and see black women screaming and physically fighting.

When I think of the extreme grace and gorgeousness of yesteryear stars, I so wish they could be teleported into modern times to represent black Women instead of what I see now. EXAMPLE:

When was the last time you’ve seen a black woman portrayed this way on tv? Pay particular attention to her tone, volume, speech, grammar and overall demeanor.

Women of every race are fetishized. Those white women just the same. And further then that women are separated into Madonnas and whores based on the way they act or behave. It's not a race issue when you boil it down. It's the way the male gender objectifies women the world over.

The important thing to remember is that women have very similar experiences in this regard. So uplifting each other like we do here and being strong is your best defense.

Not brown, not in the army, but work in a male dominated environment and have for over a decade.

The people around you are not worth shit. Their opinions on you or other women are worthless, as are they.

They shouldn't determine what YOU think about yourself.

Brown / black women are gorgeous and, if anything, age slower than us white girls.

Do your time, use the benefits of that job (college degree? decent health insurance), and find yourself nicer people to hang out with. Seriously, what do these people know? Fuck them.
