I was actually thinking of making a post about this but since it came up here - the fact that our society has denigrated liberal arts and humanities I think is at least partly tied to sexism. Liberal arts and humanities are imperative to creating well rounded individuals with broad critical thinking skills. You can take a look at countries like China, which for the past few generations have discouraged philosophy and Confucianism in schools - the Chinese government has now tried to correct for the lack of arts in their education system because they are now recognizing that Chinese people are lacking in creativity and innovation.

Even though I'm in the sciences, I went to a school that had a core curriculum, and my liberal arts classes have completely changed my perspective on life. This idea that liberal arts are useless is incredibly dangerous in the US - education is no longer for learning or becoming better citizens of the world, but for employment purposes only. And it's not surprising to me at all that liberal arts is degraded and sneered at given that women make up most of the degrees in liberal arts. It's also not surprising to me that when a field becomes more female-dominated, pay decreases. Of course, I don't think this trend in America can be contributed only to sexism - capitalism and globalism are also driving forces. But I have noticed that female-dominated fields tend to be regarded with the most contempt. If there are any sociology or economic studies out there about this subject, I'd be super interested to read.

Someone point out the fact that the toxins in the environment are affecting men’s sexual development more than women’s. Men have smaller penises and much lower testosterone than their grandfathers to the point that lowered sperm production might sink the human race in 50 years.
