This high school senior I knew years ago was dating this fuckboy. He was lazy and stupid, she was so smart, that she was offered a full ride scholarship to Rockhurst in Kansas City, which had been her first choice dream school. Her boyfriend was only able to get accepted at University of Central Missouri, because you only needed an 18 on the ACT.
She followed him and of course he cheated, they broke up and she wasnt able to transfer because the scholarship she had wasnt offered to transfers.

YUP. Never ever follow a man. Make yourself, your mental/physical health, your career, your finances, and wellbeing your priorities always. Being a pick-me will leech you of everything you have.

I remember so clearly bawling my eyes out in the parking lot of a grocery store on Christmas Eve. I had just turned down an amazing job back home and moved to be with a NVM who promised me the world. I came home early from work to find him passed out drunk at noon. I woke him up and he demanded that I go to the store and buy prime rib and lobster for Christmas dinner.

Let me tell you... sitting in my car hundreds of miles from home, no support system, single digits in my checking account, knowing I was about to drive home to clean up vomit and cook a gourmet meal.... and then realizing that it was MY fault, MY refusal to demand more, MY low self-esteem, and MY quest for validation from this man led me there... it fucking sucked. It was a moment of clarity. I think back to that moment often and promised myself never again.

So, now, I warn my girlfriends and strangers alike. NEVER EVER follow a man across the world. Do not chase him. You will be risking so much and be so far from your support system in the event that something goes wrong. I’ve never heard of a pick-me with a happy ending.

My friend did this. He wasn't even her current boyfriend, he was an ex from 2009. Yes, you read that right. He had moved to the other side of the planet and she dropped everything, including her nice boyfriend (although that relationship was starting to crack tbh), for this emotionally abusive asshole because he said he'd marry her. It lasted maybe three months and she went on to spend 18 months in a foreign country, absolutely miserable, and begging him to take her back while letting him use her for sex. She's been back home nearly two years and is STILL pining for him and emailing him and asking me to look at his Instagram because he blocked her on there. I really don't think she'll ever learn.

Lady Gaga said something similar and the entire thread was both men and women saying no wonder she fails at relationships. She should put family first and provide at home before focusing on career etc. Can’t believe this rubbish exists in 2020. Pretty sure being financially stable and happy makes should be good traits but apparently not.

I did this...and even though it worked out, after I send my youngest to school I have a LOT of pieces to pick back up for my own career. So even if it does work out (which is highly unlikely—I must have got tons of guardian angels or something), there will be a climb. Her advice is the better option for safety for most young women today.
