I have a friend who tried “it’s just lunch” and was unimpressed. She was guaranteed a certain amount (3?) of matches that met her requirements. If a guy didn’t meet her requirements (age, education, etc.) and she agreed to meet him it was “free.” (didn’t count as one of the 3 meets for her).

She ended up feeling used as a woman to match with men, but was not given a man to match with HER.

I've heard mixed things about them. It really comes down to where you are, what you're looking for, and what kind of network the matchmaker has. I've seriously thought about it, but I'm not ready to commit that kind of money yet. Maybe after COVID.

I assuming you mean professional matchmaking. I don't have any direct experience but I have known a few men who have used matchmaking services (mid sized city US) and all of them had "eccentric" personalities and had not been able to find anyone on OLD. One had some serious serial killer vibes. I'm sure this varies from regional region but I would have been livid if I had paid to get matched up with any of them.

I haven’t heard good things to be honest for a few reasons: - Obviously it is very expensive, and you might not get anything back from your investment, which they never/rarely return. - The quality of men on them isn’t great, because generally a HVM would not need to pay for a service as they’ll attract women in real life. - The ones that do find success, often lower their expectations, partly out of desperation or loneliness. - Those who do not find success often feel deeper frustration with dating afterwards because they feel ripped off.

I personally would work on your dating confidence by talking to people more, meeting men in person rather than through online. OLD can be a supplement but shouldn’t be your main focus, because you will get low success rates which might put you off. Once your confidence is sky high, you’ll be able to vet easily without getting deterred. Make dating confidence the priority rather than the dating, so you’re not attached to the outcome of dates and can appreciate the experiences, the rest will fall into place.

I heard it feels like the matchmaker is just trying to sell their inventory to you and doesn't have your best interests in mind.

I used a professional matchmaker. It was a waste of money. The men were awful and I had nothing in common with them.

Sort of, I use the Aunty match making service. Going well so far, would probably be better if covid wasn’t a thing.

Most legit matchmaking services will set women up on dates for free. There's a couple in my area and they say women are welcome to apply to be placed in their database as a potential match for their male clients, but they don't take women as actual clients.

If you want to go this route, see if there is one in your area and then get some nice photos done and apply.
