And that attitude is double-dump worthy once you’re engaged or married. If my husband ever made ball-and-chain jokes or said he wished he was single, I’d have no problem letting him know that it’s just one filing away and I’d be happy to call in a former coworker or two to do the honors.

My company- all of our company- is a pleasure and a privilege. No man has the right to take any of us for granted and especially not disrespect us by making “jokes” about not wanting us. It’s negging meant to lower our self esteem and it’s unacceptable.

I hate it when pickmes and other people try to dictate to you what you're supposed to find funny. No, I don't want my partner making cruel jokes at my expense, joking about not wanting to marry me, joking about not liking me or hating me, not finding me attractive, finding other woman more attractive than me, etc. If that works in your relationship, good for you, but I don't have to tolerate it. None of the hvm I've dated would even dream of making those "jokes".

Ok this is going to be a hella tangent. My boyfriend and I have been together over 6yrs; he never proposed because I didn't see myself as a wife. When I changed my mind, he agreed to it and was happy. When I said I wanted to get married sooner so my sick grandpa can see me get married, he bought the ring that same week. When I called him while he was with his boys to come home for a bit to meet my friend's baby, he did and he pulled out his guitar to show her how to "slap the bass" and make her smile. We make jokes and laugh with one another but we'd never dream of humiliating or degrading each other. I've snapped at people and cut people off for being rude to him and he's popped off on his father and old friends for me. Not once was a dishwasher joke ever made at my expense. I know the bar is super low for men, but Jesus... I'm so sick of men making the same jokes and humiliating the women who've sacrificed so much for them. I'm also sick of these miserable self-hating pick-mes who enable them. After being with a man who spoils me, listens to me, provides everything from a shoulder to cry on to financial help to orgasms, who does as much chores as I do, who practically lives at Menards so he can get what he needs to fix up our house I couldn't imagine being with an asshole like the men in this post. I feel lucky, but at the same time I know this is how it's supposed to be. I don't feel bad for the pick-mes who settle for and enable this bullshit... Sis, you can do so much better I'm begging you to work on your self-esteem.

I think this example is awful; if one partner wants to get married and the other one doesn’t, just break up! Like what’s the point?

I do have a very dark humour tho and I realize it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But, the “dishwasher”, “kitchen”, “old ball and chain” type jokes are so unoriginal, overused, and zero effort. I’d bug me.
