I seriously wonder what his goal was posting this on that particular sub, beyond the obvious attention seeking. Optimistic me thinks he is just an idiot, pessimistic me thinks he was looking for victims to indulge his sick fantasies.

I saw something equally as out of place once on a normal dating sub. The OP was very distraught about her boyfriend trying to force her into a threesome and she was reluctantly about to give into his bullying. Most comments were advising her to dump the POS. One guy commented: ‘wow! You’re amazing, he’s so lucky to find a woman willing to do this for him’. After a flow of abuse and about 30+ downvotes, the guy came back saying how surprised he was to be downvoted when his intention was so supportive. The mod had to spell out for him why he was an a*hole. Morale of the story.... 1) their intention should matter more than their actions and the pain they cause (self-centered or what 🤦🏼‍♀️); 2) porn fried brains.....

This is also the problem I have with a bunch of anti-porn subreddits where there seems to be a new post from some recovering porn addict looking for pity points pretty much every day. They first say how they've been watching it for a long time and how they've gone down the rabbit hole to extremely gross and violent stuff. They say how they can't control themselves anymore and are ashamed about how much they enjoy those inhuman kinks. Then in their next sentence they say something about how they have decided to stop watching porn, and how they are struggling a lot with doing that (so you better congratulate them for putting in that effort!)

And I get that a lot of them watched porn without ever considering the effects of porn. So when they first do so, they may feel bad about it for the first time even. And I know that such a feeling that you feel once you wake up can be almost soul-crushing, since I went through something very similar myself. And I know that porn can be very addictive too.

But still I find it so damn hard to give these men the sympathy they are so thirsty for. Especially since lots of them only felt the push to abstain from porn once they noticed it wasn't working in their OWN favor. And also lowkey because many of these attention-seeking men stick to feeling pitiful and congratulating other men. Sure, some awareness is spread by making these posts and other men might start considering going porn free too, I must give them credit for that. But still most of the initiatives to public protest (like spreading around stickers and other stuff) I see are started by women for whom being anti-porn is more of a political belief than an opportunity to garner sympathy and pat themselves on the back because they are so strong for not watching anymore rape videos. Because being the only one among your friends is also very hard, didn't you know?

Edit: ...I needed to get this little rant of my chest because I love to support anti-pornography causes and things that spread the message but it really takes something out of me to see a newly recovering porn addict talk about himself everyday. I just scroll past it most of the time or direct him to resources that help with recovering from porn addiction, but as someone once victimized by the porn industry as a young girl it takes a lot out of me. It makes me happy to see more and more men turning around and I'd like their journey to be comfortable, but it makes me sick thinking of the possibility how they might have watched teenage me when they were so addicted.
