When I make arguments, one thing I'm often told is that I conflate women's issues and feminism with LGBTQ+ advocacy. I have trouble with the notion that, when we're speaking about modern-day society, I can't refer to the entire "left" "woke" belief system as a whole. In my arguments about feminism and men's position in society I'll make references to the Pride Flag, and I'm told that that's out of line, or that that invalidates my argument because feminism and Pride are two different things.

Both women's rights as we know them today and LGBT rights, in North America at least, came out of the same revolutionary cultural movement that really took hold in the '60s and '70s. The Pride Flag was an important symbol from that time. The Flag has been passed down generation after generation and a lot of meaning has been put onto it, today the symbol represents something very different from what it did at the beginning.

I think that the vast majority of the people who take part in the pride parade would identify themselves as feminists, and the women in the university gender studies departments and elsewhere, they all have Pride Flags on the walls of their offices. I think there's a lot of power today in the symbol of the Pride Flag and it's the feminists who are able to take advantage of that.

I don't believe that it's possible to speak about one without the other. I think it's a false division and I think it makes it more difficult for men to have their voices heard.
