A feminist in my country Argentina once tweeted about how if you complain about society being a white straight man, you were a complete failure, since "society was designed for you to win". Fuck off.

It was decades or centuries ago, but as a straight white man in his early twenties, the only things that have been handed over to me as I grew up, have solely consisted in what my hard working parents managed to provide for me. Society didn't bend backwards to my whims (and it shouldn't).

I have had depression, pure OCD, suicidal ideation, and I have been relentlessly mocked and bullied by my classmates and even "friends" during my adolescence for my lack of sexual success.

Society is designed for a few people to win yes, but it's not for straight white males. It's for people with lots of money, and all the resources that you can get with it (contacts, good healthcare, good therapy, luxury, and impunity for misdemeanors).

A white straight man who is also poor, mentally ill or an abuse survivor is not someone that deserves to be called out on his privilege and his pleas for help ignored, specially not by some sanctimonious and hypocritical upper-class celebrities, politicians and actors who believe to know better than everyone else.

Another WIP draft, so please let me know of any errors / feedback!

Question: why is the most ‘privileged’ member of society, also the one most likely to kill themselves?

It’s a question that will tie many a feminist in knots of outrage; spluttering nonsense as they blabber on about patriarchy backfiring, or toxic masculinity, or some meagre lip service about crying.

So again – why do men, especially white men, choose to end their life at such high rates?

Perhaps it has something do to with the high, yet narrow expectations we place onto men?

Maybe it’s the fact that there is virtually no empathy for them in the modern world, and this is doubly so for those who are white.

Goodness, just putting the words ‘white men’ and ‘suffering’ together, will make most people wince, wretch, scoff, or throb with anger.

Maybe we’ve lost sight of the fact that the big bad super villain of the world, is not some inhuman monster... but just a man.

Just another human; a squishy bit of flesh, vulnerable, sensitive, and scared, who just like any one else is riddled with stress, debt, relationship issues, loneliness, fear, self doubt, insecurity, sadness and countless other life problems.

Is time we took this man off the rack of public condemnation?

To quit punishing him for the actions of his ancestors, and finally stop blaming him for things he literally never did, all in the name of so called ‘gender equality’?

Just take a step back for a moment.

Perhaps it's time that we all looked at ourselves in the mirror, and took a little bit of accountability for ones self?

Maybe one finger, if just a pinky, ought to be pointed at our own reflection?

Who knows.

Is it time we stopped slathering white men, especially those who are single and unemployed, with wicked words, and silly names, to literally rebrand him as some kind of terrorist-in-waiting?

These are good questions to think about.

So what is to be said about this wrung out white man?

Who sits at the bottom of the barrel of public compassion, brow beaten, amongst a mess that we pretend is of his own making…

What do you think?

I'm not white but I feel absolutely bummed for white people in general. A lot of racism against them these days. Especially in my non-white circles. They are genetically pre-disposed to mental illnes and the racism isn't doing them any favours.

The woke media really fked everyone's perceptions of each other. Everyone's human but we're all grouping ourselves into cliques for the sake of fighting against people we barely know.

On the 8th slide - society is already pressuring people to enter into romantic relationships, so I don't think we should be part of it. And I think that getting rid of such pressure would definetly be beneficial for men's mental health, regardless of them being in romantic relationships.

I hesitate to conflate gender and race issues because, as far as I know, white men have it better by every metric than black men. I don't see any statistics in your thread demonstrating the disparity between racial groups. I would either spell out the difference explicitly or cut the white angle entirely.

There are a bunch of reactionary alt-right white genocide chuds conflating men's issues with white racial grievance. be careful about giving them more ammunition.

You need to be careful because this is exactly the kind of rhetoric that racists use to gain new supporters.

I've regularly seen claims that the affirmative action policies in the UK for the vulnerable leaves vulnerable white men with practically zero support.

I tried to look up similar statistics in the US. And in terms of suicides it does seem to be similar to the UK. White men taking the number 2 spot after aboriginals.

I came across this CDC page:

They mention over a dozen metrics where there is disparity in the suicide rate and mention what they are doing to address it. This includes things like ethnicity, rural vs metropolitan, etc...

But somehow they just couldn't find the time to highlight the gender gap.

They do have a section on workplace suicide rates and the do mention that the increased risk based on industry is something that only affect men.

Anyway, what I wanted to mention is that if you're going to do an intersectional "white men" post you should also have something for "black men". Most metrics that show men as disadvantaged show black men as being even more disadvantaged.

I understand that your primary focus is to fill the gap in advocacy. There is no one speaking up for men, especially white men as there is no one speaking up for white people (who are racists or considered as such). By contrast there are tons of advocacy groups that speak up for black people.

But it looks to me like very little or none of the black advocacy groups do black men advocacy groups. So something like that might be worth mentioning.

While I think it isn't necessarily inherently wrong to care about your own in-group more than other groups, when you move into advocacy and you start advocating for compassion for an issue affecting your own in-group while while another group suffers from the exact same, or vey similar problem and is being completely ignored, it's very sus. It's like you're asking from other's compassion where you have none to offer to others.

This is the same complaint I have with against a lot of feminist advocacy and against their "what about the men" rhetoric. Like yes, exactly "what about the men", they're asking us to care about an issue that affects women when the same or similar issue that affects men even worse is completely ignored. They ask for compassion where they have none to offer.

I don't think the racial element is necessary. Black men get a massive amount of gender related discrimination and I don't thnk making the race distinction here really helps at all. I think it also weakens the point. The focus should be on the impact that unemployment and loneliness have.

The claim is not supported by the source. Mixed race men have a higher rate of suicide (23.56) than white men (21.03) in the UK.

It appears that you have cherry picked the piece of data that you could find that is closest to supporting your narrative, lied about it in order to make it fit, and then just hoped that nobody would notice. all in the service of shoe horning white racial grievance into a men's issue.

Now I'm not saying that you're actually intending to do that. but I am saying that your actions are consistent with those intentions.
