I don't know enough to really have a tight opinion, but I lean towards decriminalization/legalization. My understanding is that legalization could allow for more protection for workers and avenues for them to take if they need help (such as if they are abused or assaulted) and potentially more means of workers rights and bargaining power if they are able to unionize.

I’m not sure if it’s better if it was completely legal, or completely illegal; I flip-flopped between both positions a lot.

The only model I explicitly don’t support is the Swedish one, where selling is legal but buying is not. I consider it fundamentally unjust.

I'd have to look more into it to be fully comfortable committing strongly, but based on what I know thus far I'm pro legalization. I've lived in places where it can be done legally and it never seemed to create an issue that justifies the need for it to be illegal.

Definitely legalization/decriminalization because even though I wouldn't be a consumer or a supplier in this business, I don't believe in governments regulating sexual purity. I would also like to see anti-monopolization efforts at the federal level that prevent governors etc from rigging the market in their favor by only offering contracts to their friends, donors, etc. This happens a lot with cannabis.

I've at one point in my career cooperated with an association of sex workers. They want legalization and regulation. They don't want to be treated as victims by default, but be protected from the risks of their job, like anybody else. They want to do their job, be able to choose to do it or not, have options to get out if they so desire, get support (especially medical) when doing it, and choose the conditions in which they are doing it. It means they should be able to get help without judgement when they face abuse or exploitation, and be able to decide themselves they are not being abused. They want to pay taxes like everybody else.

They also want to be able to have relationships without their significant others being treated as criminals, an often overlooked aspect. In many jurisdictions living off the prostitution of another is considered a crime, putting life partners of prostitutes at risk of prosecution.

I also think we shouldn't forget clients can be at risk too. Of extortion, of contamination, of addiction. They often are fragilized or desperate people using prostitution as a last resort, far from the cliche representation of men using women as commodities. Often they do more talking than fucking. Many prostitutes see themselves as social workers as much as sex workers.

That's my general outlook on all subjects. Don't take people's agency away to "protect" them. Legalize, protect, regulate, and do it based on the demands of those affected, guided by honest science. And of course don't discriminate based on preset categories. Situations, not identities should be what regulation is based on.

It works for drugs, surrogacy, abortion, unusual relationships, transgender issues, you name it.

It should be treated like any other profession. Legal, taxed, and subject to all laws, including labor laws.

Decriminalisation for me. I believe sex work to be morally wrong for both the seller and buyer but I don't care enough to actually campaign against it. Even if I did, people will still do it. Oldest profession and all that.

If someone is fully consenting in selling sexual acts and the buyer is fully consenting in paying for those acts, I don't think anyone should face legal repurcussions. I shouldn't have to specify this but no stuff with kids.

I would oppose regulation as the government tends to organise things so it benefits them and the corpos.

Decriminalization: While legalization is better than criminalization it still creates problems that decriminalization can tackle. The other forms of criminalization I think just create more problems than they solve. Also when I look at the problems for sex work its hardly specific to it. Sex work acts more like a canary in the cold mine or a mirror for what is broadly going on in society which means even if sex work didn't exist the issues it has would just continue in broader society anyways.

Decriminalization, but I would like to see something like basic income implemented. People doing sex work they hate out of financial necessity shouldn't be a thing.

I think it should not only be legalized. It should be regulated and streamlined and, in some cases, maybe even subsidized.

If you look at it more as form of personal care, it makes sense. There shouldn't really be any kind of solicitation going on on the streets. Pimps shouldn't be a thing, any more than you would want some random guy pushing pills or therapy on street corners.

You want to make sure that both the clients and the providers are in a safe environment. Clients and providers both need to be protected, and that's something that has historically been lacking(most people only seem to concern themselves with the safety of the female providers, and that's not right).

It should be businesses(private or non-private), which offer a safe space for sex workers, or sexual care providers, but also ensure that protection is being used, that both the client and the provider are clean(both in the literal and in terms of STI's), that no drugs are involved, and that no coercion(against the client or the provider) is happening. This would mean these businesses would require a license to operate and require routine inspections to maintain their license. Reports of abuse, on either end, would have to be instigated.

In some cases, I also think doctors/therapists should even be able to prescribe sexual care therapy to patients who need it. Whether that be because they lack the experience or confidence, which men are heavily judged on by women, or just because they can identify that a lack of physical intimacy/opportunity is causing them emotional/psychological distress.

If you offer streamlined services that are safe and comfortable, then you effectively remove most of the demand for it elsewhere(Which means you effectively remove most of the demand that exists for the type of sex work you would see in other dangerous or criminal environments).

Neo-abolitionism, which is basically what a lot of countries are doing now following the nordic model, is definitely the worse of all the options. It is very much set to not only target men, not only vilifying their desires for sex but criminalizing them for it, but it leaves men open to all kinds of scams from providers as well. It doesn't actually prevent trafficking or criminal elements from sex-work but rather makes it impossible for men to report it without self-incrimination. It's creating an environment where female providers can effectively dangle bait to pull in desperate, lonely or sexless men, without repercussions, while men still take on all of the risks(legal or otherwise). It doesn't actually do anything to address the demand for the sex work, it just punishes men for it. It's sexist and backwards.
