My wife wanted to go back to school and get a mac.

Okay, that's fine. We got one.

I updated it and uploaded all of her stuff to the computer. I also built a desk for it to sit on. She never touched it during this time.

Over Christmas she went to her home country to visit family for a week. But before she left she hid the power cord so I couldn't use it while she was gone.

She said she knew I would play games on it and that's not what it's for.

For significantly worse reasons than this we are now separated.

I looked at Mac. Overpriced plus did not want yet another learning curve. picked up an HP Envy 15.4" i7, 4K screen 256gig SSD, 16gig ram

$900 two years ago. By far the best laptop I have ever owned, screen is amazing. Every bit as good as my friends Mac which cost twice as much. Not a serious gaming machine but can play LL and such. Hope it lasts 5 years before my next one.

Kitchen Aid, although cheaper, was a waste too. How many times did she make bread? Pasta? A pie? Hardly enough to justify buying fancy appliances as gifts. Women love how it makes them perceived on Instagram and family/friends, but hell if they actually practically use them. That's why they come in different colors.

My mother is the same way. I got into shooting, so she wanted a gun too. My dad got her handgun, I paid for her CHL class. Took the class, never used her handgun again and never submitted her paperwork to get the CHL. She says it's because she actually wanted a rifle for target shooting. Okay, I buy her a small caliber rifle and some ammo. Dad sets her up with a range membership. Never been used. I caught on, now, though. She wanted to get into photography, so I bought her a stupid cheap DSLR on eBay and my sister got her a bag and tripod. Never used it, but at least I didn't waste as much money as the previous times.

I bought my wife (ex-) a laptop once. She still uses it. However, after buying it for her for Christmas, most of the decent "gifts" that I "received" from her were IOU's that she never delivered on. It became self-evident at that point where the marriage was going.

A lot of Mac haters in this thread. But I recently got my brothers old MacBook Pro and I have to give it one up: they are physically built niiiiiice. Sleek, all metal (little to no plastic), better track pad (and importantly track pad software), illuminating efficient keyboard, etc. My Lenovo feels like a cheap bendy toy in comparison.

I admit the downsides though (1) not ideal for gaming (2) not ideal for "power" users- i.e. IT people or people using essoteric apps (3) priced higher even when accounting for the much nicer build quality.
