You can spend decades building a home, a family, a career and it can all evaporate in a matter of weeks. It happened to me. I ended up homeless. I have a degree from a Top Ten law school, and no problems with drugs, alcohol, anything. Not kidding. I would rather be shot than go through that again. Against my will, my three daughters, who I love more than anything on this Earth, were moved 2,500 miles away. Something like that damages you in a way you never fully get over. I will never forget telling my oldest what was going to happen, while on a walk one evening, and having her dissolve into tears sitting on the curb next to me, and just be wracked with sobs for a long time. Listen to the OP. Do not get married -- it is just suicide.

To be fair, if you have children at all in this world they're going to grow up fucked up. I agree with you though, no benefit to marriage. Making that step from gf to wife is just signing away your rights. Seriously what benefit does marriage have.

In my workplace most of the people are married. We are all early 20s so it surprises me that everyone's married. I have a girlfriend and people ask me all the time if we're going to get married. I just say "who knows" but I know in my head there's no way in hell I would. It's so hilarious to me once you can see through blue pilled shaming lines to the insecurities that lie within people.

Marriage is about the transfer of the man's earned resources to benefiting the woman and the children. All done under the guise of family. Even in marriages where the women work, men generally still do get fucked over.

Fathers with daughters say it as well. They will point out how unreliable men can be while promoting marrying a man with money. Only to then accuse other men who got cleaned of "choosing the wrong one". Despite the fact that A)you can't CHOSE who you're attracted to and B)it's the same system they endorse.

Listen when people speak. You never hear just being YOU is good enough. Part of your package will and has always been MONEY. We are men. You can take the reaction from both men and women towards men as "Oh well, tough shit." This is why we don't get support.

Unfortunately the marriage laws encourage women to "follow their hearts" and blow up the marriage when they get bored. It is definitely insane to get married. I can understand having kids if you want them but marriage in this country is like handing a child a loaded weapon and hoping they don't shoot you with it.

There has to be a way to fix his. Maybe you can offload the debt to a debt collector? Perhaps you can take her to small claims court for each debt item?
Perhaps if you've paid for the items on credit card, you own them as you own the debt, so you can discuss with the sheriff that you seek to repossess the items? Have a court order drawn up to enter the house with a sheriff and remove the items under supervision. Sell them or return them and have the debt lessened. There are lots of ways to get this sorted. Keep in mind small claims court has a limit, usually $5,000 so don't put everything into the one claim.
edit: also, if you can change jobs or get a lower paying job, ensure you've worked at it for the period necessary and then return to the judge and ask for the child support and alimony to be reduced accordingly.
After sufficient time, if she gets a new boyfriend or husband, you can (depending on your state's laws), either reduce or stop those monthly payments.

My numbers, in your categories:

I did not have 50/50 custody of my children. (They are now young adults.)

Child support: $2000/mo. ($1000/child) = ~$252,000

Marital debt dumped onto my lap = $49,000.

Bankruptcy. House foreclosed. 2 cars repossessed.

Even though I paid child support, she refused to pay (which is within her rights in our state. I have no say in how she spent the CS) for ANY activities. Thousands and thousands of $ I spent so my kids could be given opportunities to excel. She didn't care about their upbringing for normal kid-related costs. Her own material needs came first, and were fulfilled with the $ I was forced (with the threat of jail) to give to her.

Costs (to me) of ending the marriage: well in excess of $300,000, bankruptcy, loss of a dream home, loss of being an every-day father to my kids, loss of choice in life (cannot take a chance on a dream when CS is required by law), loss of dignity, loss of mind (temporarily).

Amount of $252,000 she saved for college: Zero.

So, yeah... go ahead. Get married. I'm sure perfect marriages are created every day, but think about the risks of taking that chance...
