I mentioned it in another post that this whole "I expect the man to pay" is one of the main reasons that I absolutely hated dating (and being in relationships) because you are expected to be a walking wallet and they drain your finances, which I found that out the hard way but now (being single) I have thousands in savings, no debt (apart from a mortgage), a job that I enjoy and disposable money to spend on stuff for myself to enjoy.....Get with a woman and watch it slowly vanish.

If the person was reasonable with their order, like got a coffee and maybe a small food item, I don't see anything wrong with paying for that, and if it was understood that you'd pay for that before the date occurred, you'd be wrong. However, this was not the case, and if she's going that far outside of a standard deviation for her order, then I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to be taken advantage of for $55.50 of food.
