And I'll go first:

Motivation:

My health is at "Probably won't drop dead suddenly." I'm a father and husband, so I want to move that to "Hard to kill son of a bitch".

What didn't work:

I stalled out when I started dreaming about getting bigger muscles. I finally had to choose healthy and small over unhealthy and big. I think this was unique to my body and diet, but it's a call I had to make. (Disclaimer: No, I didn't stop lifting.)

What did work:

Shit tons of bicycling to kick my metabolism on and give me some cheat room, then banishing one type of sugar food after another from my habits. I still eat sugar, but only when it's the best sugar I can imagine eating. As a result, I make some amazing desserts.

What's next:

I don't think I can hit my goals and maintain my high activity levels unless I learn to replace low quality (salted potato chips) carbs with high quality ones (green vegetables).

Me- I am already short, short and chubby is just a bad idea - also, gives me time to get my anger out. iron doesn't bend much, you know?
at first, trying to go at the pace I could go in my early twenties. biking does shit for me because I get bored, and for medical reasons I can't bike outside...yet?
starting to work- IF, and basically not eating because I am bored or "should" . recognizing actual hunger vs learned hunger is a huge help.
getting my core together so I can lift like a normal human. getting out of the house, breaking bad routines -

actually - breaking bad routines is in both 2 - 4... it needs done, success was varied

A simple realization. You cant exercise your way out of eating like shit. People are fat because they eat too much. Just when you think you are starving yourself but your weight hasn't budged in weeks, you are still trying too much.

You can eat at a deficit and still make gym progress at 15% body fat and higher. Just focus on your protein intake for maintenance of muscle.

Lift, live life, eat only when you need it, prioritize protein sources. It can really be that simple. Progress is self reinforcement.

What's your motivation for ~~losing~~ Gaining weight?

Want to be a great example for my kid and daughters, Puny dudes are never taken seriously and do not have presence. I want to be admired when I walk into a room and not just another stick figure

What didn't work?

Not following a correct diet and keeping to Macros. Cholestrol has gone up slightly

What has worked?

Strong lifts 5*5 gained 20lbs, shirts and jeans no longer fit and i needed to buy new

What's your motivation for losing weight?

I need to lose some body fat to be able to see the bottom set of abs. I seem to be able to put on muscle better in a high calorie surplus, but that means I also put on fat. Which, being tall I can get away with for so long, before my face starts to look more bloated. That's when I know I need to drop lower my BF %.

What didn't work?

The first few times I tried to lose BF, I went too far with fasted cardio forst thing in the morning and strict dieting. Was in a shitty mood all of the time and at the end of it I looked flatter and didn't lose much actual fat, plus I was weak as shit so not being able to lift heavy fucked me off.

What has worked?

Ketogenic diet. 0 carbs, for 10 days. With a refeed at day 11. Dropped lots of water, some fat but maintained strength, after about 5 days in, I felt more aggression and stronger than when 'on' carbs. Continued keto in a similar fashion for 3 weeks execpt added in carbs to the last meal of the day.

What are you doing next?

Dropping the unhealthy shit that has crept in recently. Planning to add in cardio after lifting if I feel up to it.

I'm down about 60 pounds at this point from my heaviest.

My diet changed because of getting diabetes and changing jobs. I got a glucose meter and starting measuring before a meal, one hour afterwards, and two hours afterwards. Watching as my blood sugar spiked after eating carbs, and replacing those carbs with fat and protein led naturally to eating a keto diet.

This was all around the same time as getting a new job that came with a gym. So, diet and exercise led to a huge reduction of weight relatively quickly (several months), and got me from clinically obese to 5-10 pounds overweight according to BMI, etc. This was a few years ago, and I've kept the weight off since.

The funny thing is that after all of that, it turned out to be adult-onset type 1 anyway. So now I'm on insulin and can in theory eat whatever I want as long as I bolus for it properly. I still eat far less carbs than a standard Western diet, but more than my keto days. Mostly trying to reduce body fat percentage by increasing muscle mass (lifting!) while keeping the weight steady.

Still a fat fuck, though.

I have lost 35 pounds in the last 18 months going from ~30% body fat to 10-11% now.

Motivation

I could not keep up with buddies climbing a mountain during a backpacking trip.
My cholesterol was getting to the point that doc was recommending Statins and my blood sugar went over 120. Early onset of diabetes.
I was starting to have ED. This was due to a combination of low T and too high body fat (related) and overdosing on blue pills. I went on Cialis. Since loosing all the weight, lifting, and eating red pills instead of blue; I don't need the Cialis anymore. Still pop one every once in awhile for the recreational boost.
Back in my spreadsheet days, the absolute strongest correlation I could impact on wife's sexual desire was my weight. It had gone up and down three times in the data set, the relationship was crystal clear.
As I have leaned out, I would say the validation from random women is a significant source of validation. Since dropping below 12% and getting more muscles, they often look at me like food or prey.....which I luv....validation whore I know.

What did not work

Low fat diets....because they are high carb/sugar
Just eating less but same junk

What has worked

Ketogenic diets. I have read four keto books in the last 20 years, IMO "The New Atkins for a New You" is the best. If you want to loos weight rapidly, you need to be eating less than 25 grams of carbs per day.
I found that when eating this ultra low level of carbs, I can eat as much protein and fat as I want and get to 12-14% BF. Getting lower requires the addition of caloric reduction. I achieved caloric reduction through IF (9 pm to 12 pm); and snack replacement with protein (whey) shakes. My largest sources of carbs are dairy and fruit. Fruit is the lever I use to titrate my cut.
Pro-tips. There is nothing in a convenience store or gas station to consume besides coffee and water...nothing. There is no good fast food. Eat only whole foods, nothing that has been processed besides dairy. My two vices are bacon and ReadyWhip. I eat 3-5 pounds of bacon a week and easily consume 2-3 cans of ReadyWhip. Read labels religiously. Yobemine HCl definitely helps that fasting-cardio cut. About 1/2 of all the meat (including fish) I either killed or caught myself.

What am I doing next?

Maintaining (30-40 grams carbs) throughout summer. Getting a DEXA scan sometime this summer.
Bulking in fall. I want to get fucking huge.

I was about to be single, and desperately wanted to be attractive for pussy. That's the raw truth. Over time it morphed into something I wanted for my health and energy levels.
IF didnt work in the beginning, had too much dadbod going on for it to be really effective. Counting calories didn't work either because I was still eating junk, just less of it.
Macros worked for me while cycling keto. I got rid of all the processed food and fast food. Period. Portion controls kicked in automatically as over time the protein just seemed to keep me not hungry. I lift three days a week. In fact as I write this, I am waiting for the wife to be ready for the gym. I start my korte 3x3 for a powerlifting meet in october I am going to go to.
Good question. Once my BF gets <15% I think I will do IF as it seems to be the real method to get down to <10%.

What's your motivation for losing weight? Looking to gain more muscle for and aesthetics build. Started out as a skinny guy.
What didn't work? Not eating enough. Sugars and potato chips. Video games.
What has worked? Meal preps and progressive overloading. Listing to my body when I need to rest. Or go hard.
What are you doing next? More muscle building strategy's. I was incorporating to many strength building routines when I should have been doing muscle building to grow bigger.

Motivation: Not being that feeble old man til I have to be. I will stop lifting when my joints beeak, then I will go to body weight, then I will go into a box.

What works: Ketosis. Stay below 50g a day in carbs and you will lose weight.

Up you protein or your body will metabolize your muscle.

HR above 160bpm with a 1 minute blast past 190 for interval training on cardio days.

No sugar, that means black coffee fellas. No banannas, oranges, onions, garlic, grapes. Meat and lots of it. Learn to love brocoli. If you are gonna eat a starch make it rice or a small boiled potato. Boiling a potato halves its glycemic impact. Avoid those blood sugar spikes.

Protein should be the 1st thing into your body in the morning and the last thing in before bed. Starvation doesn't work. You will force your body into fat storage/ preservation mode. You will plateau on starvation.

Finally for those old fuckers like me. Test Cyp!

Get your blood tested. Could be low T, could be low Free T, could be a high converter to E, Could have thyroid or Patuitary issues, you'll never know til you take control of your health. Dont rely on a Dr. to send you for a test. Get a hormone panel done that measures FSH, LH, Estrodiol, TSH, Hemocrit, Total and Free T, and a basic metabolic panel. I cannot link the lab, but do a search for anti aging Hormone panel should cost around $250 online, a Dr. remotely submits the request you get the results. Read up on Clomid, HCG, AI's to keep yourself functioning properly........

I'll go! Turned 50 this spring...and just decided this isn't who I want to be. Simply started eating well and exercising (Harley Pasternak's diet and Wii game actually) and lost 30 lbs in 12 weeks. Back at my college weight! Stumbled on The Family Alpha and MRP recently and upped my game. Bought a cage and free weights, started lifting, and am beginning to see results I'm liking! I'm hooked now!

My motivation was my LTR of 8 years dumping me when she lost weight, and I didn't. One month later she's hooking up with a self proclaimed gangster, skinny dad bod loser oil consultant thats been out of work for over a year but has cash saved up. No chick wants a fat slub like myself. I've got the looks, I need the body to support it.
Cardio and portion control didn't work alone for me.
A change of diet and lifestyle. I'm now on keto, and am doing weightlifting as prescribed by red pill. It works.
Continuing on, staying strict with keto. I've had cheat days and they set you back so much. I am pushing on and staying strict. Continuing to lift, and moving up. I can feel the muscles in my legs, arm, and back. Still dad bod as far as the chest / stomach go, but improving there as well. As always, continuing to read RP. Starting July 2015, I have lost 70lbs as of today (289lb -> 219lb). I'm 6'1, so my goal is 190, and then from there toning and strength building, and most likely surgery to remove the excess skin. I was pathetically weak, and still feel weak, but from August 2015 until now, my lifts have gone from just the bar (25lb), to Squats - 175lb 5x5, Deadlift - 215lb 1x5, Overhead press - 95lb 5x5, Bent over row - 155lb 5x5, Bench Press - 155lb 5x5, Barbell curl - 60lb 3x8, close grip bench press - 120lb 3x8.

To feel myself get strong, to see women notice me, and to be able to do physical activities and enjoy myself, rather then struggle through them with pain keeps me moving forward. I'm not interested in 'spinning plates', I'm looking again for an LTR, but this time, although I am still transitioning to alpha, RP has given me the tools I need to be happy in life and to keep improving myself, with or without a woman at my side.

1.Motivation for weight loss: Like it or not everyone judges you. It will affect every facet of your life. Work Home Public life, recreation life.. etc

What didnt work? : Lifting so hard I break myself. Regular dieting (High Carb). Extreme workout regimes.
What worked? Elimination of Sugar. The shit makes me nuts and I binge eated. the KETO subreddit is where it is at people.
Lower impact lifting until I build up a good tolerance and tons of cycling. Ive always loved cycling.

2.Didn't Work

Can't outrun a donut.
Not enough protein, I think I just need more than most.
Ignoring my age and prior injuries and not doing incremental increases in exercise (weights) and having to deal with unnecessary joint injuries.
Tried to eat extra to gain muscle faster. It really worked at the cost of about 5 lbs of fat I didn't want.
Tried 5 day gym, went back to 3. Worked much better.

3.What works.

Hi protein , low carb diet. I am stronger on this and sleep better
Three days only at gym per week, but at least 2 hours of high intensity work, each trip.
Use a lot of dumbbells and machines to compensate for things I cannot do without injury with the barbells.

4.Doing Next……….Fasting.

Simply counting calories, added some cardio once a week. Swimming for 30+ mins. Stronglifts while cutting, because volume > intensity, for this purpose.
Growing. I changed into Leangains both workout and eating habits wise. I have to say, if I ever go to cut again, definitely doing it while maintaining the intermittent fasting. So much easier to eat tasty foods on it, I find.

What's your motivation for losing weight? At first is was health...close to diabetes, and was told I had a 10% chance of a major heart event in 10 years. Two years later both are in the far far past.

What didn't work? Sitting

What has worked? This was before RP but I did Crossfit/bootcamp style work outs with a 1500 calorie high protein diet. Lost on average 20 pounds every 6 weeks. Until I hit my BMI. But I was just skinny.

What are you doing next? Keep going. My calories are up to 2200 and high protein for the heavy lifting. I have lifting goals I want to hit, and I want to cut more....

BUT I am backing off the cutting process a bit...less aggressive actually. I have noticed issues cropping up (performance problems and sleeping issues). I didn't notice them until I started putting it all together. So I am upping calories and Omega 3 Fat.

I want to get rid of this dad bod. I'm not fat, but I've got a bit of a gut unless I'm standing up straight. Not good enough. I want visible abs. Currently hovering around 20% body fat, I want to nearly half this. I want to take my shirt off at next summer gathering and feel good about myself.
Haven't tried anything that didn't work. It's pretty basic shit that we should all know by now... Eat less, move more.
Eating less shit. Doing more exercise. I used to eat so much shit it wasn't funny, including a lot of corn chips. I cut that shit out, started walking to work every day since waiting for the bus took almost as long. (40 min walk one way). Weight fell of quickly. Another time I gained weight after honeymoon (Damn you Yanks and your delicious junk food). I started calorie counting and tracking my food with an app. Took a while but I'm nearly where I want to be.
Finally decided to stop drinking shit. I've already stopped eating shit (mostly), but now it's time to make the same change with drinking. I'm drinking a lot more water now and cutting down the sugary crap.

Back at the gym now and working on my strength too. It's been too long but I'm glad to be back.

Gained roughly 35 pounds since I got married, used to be ok top of shit but slipped up. Want to get control of my health due to family history already showing it's head through cholesterol and heart issues. I also would just like to look like I did when I used to run/lift religiously prior to meeting my wife.
Not having a gym membership or structure to workout regimen. My son being born gave me every excuse on the world to quit going when I didn't want to and the finances gave me another excuse to axe it. Allowing myself sweets/soda again was another downfall.
Tracking meals, setting goals, making a schedule and planning meals has been huge. Instead of guessing through the week, I find my results so far (down 23 lbs in 10 weeks) have supported more structure as well as completely dropping pop and hugely curbing all the sweet stuff my wife tries to buy. Starting to find some results with switching protein bars in terms of keeping sugar down, looking to replace with a protein shake and keep the bar for a snack or something.
Nailing down a consistent lifting schedule. My running has seen great gains, but I'm still getting into the groove of lifting regularly. Also trying to switch to no microwaveable meals including at work.

Seeing myself on pictures and camera looking like a pathetic fat slob. I always felt sorry for my friends who have to look away as they have sex with their dependapotomous, and looking at myself realised that I now feel bad for my wife. I wouldn't fuck me. Always been big and flabby, would like to know what it's like to be confidently once in my life (not there yet).
- Cheat Days. I have an amazing ability to eat enough quality and quantity to undo a months worth of work, coupled with less than a months worth of diet results in weight gain.
- Lifestyle change. I understand this concept, but have not been able to truly own this. My relationship with bad food is too damn important to cut it out of my life. I hope one day this does work.
- Keto Recipes. Eating Keto has worked great for me, but one I started trying to make Keto Waffles, Keto Pizza, Keto Pasta, [insert paradox here] I gained like crazy.
Straight Keto. Meat, some veg, no sugar. Coconut Oil in coffee. No little candy, sugarfree gum, cottage cheese, etc.
IF once BF Reduces enough.
