In the comments here, most of what I read are variants on "tell people you're an MRA." On this subreddit, it's really easy to get caught up in everything we're talking about, and forget that there are people out there who do not agree with us. I thing that what these posters advocating public MRAs forget is that the MRM is still very much a fringe group. It hurts to hear this, I know, but it is. When we publicly admit to being MRAs, it opens us up to prejudice of all sorts from the community and, if some have their way, the government.

For us, being an MRA is the equivalent of being democrat or republican, but this is not the case for the general community. For them, saying you are an MRA is like saying you believe the earth is flat. Almost nobody knows the earth is round, they've never gone around it or orbited above it, but they're told it's round by so many people that they believe it with absolutely no reservations. For most people, being an MRA is like being an amoral, uneducated moron.

This is what causes the hatred towards us, but this also causes a bigger issue: this is what prevents people from being converted to the MRM. Certainly, some people are willing to listen, just like some people would be willing to discuss a flat world to see what the conclusions are, but most people are not. For most people, it's too late to convert them. For most people, the only thing we can do is distance ourselves from them and try to prevent them from poisoning anyone else.

People's blind hatred of the MRM is why I think that our only reasonable hope of change is time. We can talk to our children and show them this world of lies before the schools have a chance to corrupt them. And yes, children even as young as four can be taught things like this without it ruining their childhood. My parents never lied to us about Santa, and after a short talk about it, none of us ruined Santa for any of the other children. Even that young, we were all capable of holding our own beliefs and acknowledging that other people have different ones.

To be clear, I'm not saying we shouldn't be openly MRAs. That is a thing that takes great courage and does a great deal for our cause, and I admire anyone willing to do it. I am saying that before you publicly come out as an MRA, you should be ready to be a social pariah for the rest of your life.

TLDR: read the last paragraph.
