yeah bro in my country they have admission exam for universities
so the mentors and instructors tell us that for boys you need to score almost 30% more than their female counterparts to secure your admission
pretty fucked up when the girl I went to school with gets to enter the uni with lower marks than me

In the USA at least, white women have always been the primary beneficiaries of affirmative action.

People assume that it's a young Black man with poor grades getting preferential treatment. Most of the time it's a white woman who had all the resources and more of her male counterparts.

If the problem is that x% of <insert demographic> students can't go to college, I'm not against spending money to help <same demographic> learn how to pass their exams.

But letting people in who are unqualified, or having non-merit based scholarships is a morally indefinsible waste of taxes.

The money should be spent before college, and everything should be merit-based from then on. If a black or hispanic kid from east LA needs another year to get his scores up enough to qualify for college, and maybe THEN qualify for a merit based scholarship, I wouldn't be against that kid getting some kind of aid from my tax dollars. Money well spent. But only for purposes of teaching him enough to pass the same tests everybody else has to take.

But this bullshit where they just send unready people to the front of the line... or more often, just because they're women, that shit has to stop.

It's insane, especially when women want to be in places just for the sake of it. If they have a genuine interest and can pass the necessary tests and qualifications, good for them. But otherwise, there's no need for quotas, especially when it has nothing to do with sexism in the first place.

Agree with most points to a degree, except parliament one. The direct democratic institution is not supposed to be 'meritocratic', it must and should be representative and thus even 50% reservation in that regard is fine.

That’s going to be a hard sell. I think quotas are more about having representation in places where decisions, that have widespread impact, are made. I don’t think it has anything to do with feminism.

If you don't think colleges are doing everything in their power to enroll men (including ignoring lower grades), then you're really not plugged into higher education. These institutions are competing like crazy for the male 40% of students because gender balance is essential to campus social life (and because diverse classrooms are better).

We need more women in STEM and more men in fields like psych and early childhood education because they bring different perspectives to fields that serve both men and women. It's completely appropriate to try and recruit diversity in these areas.

Affirmative action is literally racism and sexism encoded into law. If you are a white man in the west and you want a good, cushy job you need to outperform everyone else to stand a chance, because if you have the same experience as the others you won't get picked.

My company have set a mandatory quote of 50% of females to be taken to interview stage, it's engineering focus, last recruitment campaign we had 196 applicants for 4 positions and only 2 females applied.

"Not enough politicians are female " Notice nobody ever asks the obvious question? What percentage of people getting into politics on the ground floor are women? Puttingb in the years as parish councilors, then local councilors, climbing the pole all those hours attending various commitees in your own time.
