It's a great step towards true gender equality. Right now, men have 0 rights during pregnancy, it's all about "women's choice". If a man wants to be a father, he cannot legally stop a woman from having an abortion (unless it's banned), he's not allowed to protect his child. But with artificial wombs, at some point it might become possible, so men and women will have equal parental rights.

And what's nice is that many women would actually like to make pregnancy easier for them, so this technology benefits different groups of people at the same time, which makes it more likely to become widely available.

As soon as these are available they will be limited by politicians in their usage. There is always some kind of paranoia about new technologies and their usage according to politicians.

I love being a dad, I'm lukewarm about being a husband . If I could have had kids without marriage I'd jump on that opportunity.

This is a very interesting topic which seems to becoming more revelant. I will say this and I apologize if any of this sounds weird:

But I think the real worry is the same plot that Full Metal Alchemist had where they found the secret lab where human souls could be used to make a giant army. Reproduction for the human species is mostly for miltarized purposes. This technology can be easily abused but I think a safer and albit stranger methodology would be biotechnology which would allow males to become mothers. Remove Yin from the equation.

I think that would solve a lot but again it raises more debate an issues. We also have to admit that we have 8 billion people on a world that is not doing well. Would the ability to make and I have to assume they are genetically altered humans be useful right now or in the next 20 years?

I would prefer life extension technology over artifical wombs as of right now, but thats just me.

Itll be to late for me to have more by the time they are generally available but the egg donor business is about to take off. You'll be able to custom order an egg and get a child without having to deal with a woman at all. You can guarantee that the feminist and their lawyers will fight easy access to this tooth and nail.

From an individual stand point I agree being a father is often better than being a husband and not having to deal with custody bs in a divorce. On the other hand I do think best case scenario for a kid is a mom and dad both being involved in their lives.. ideally in a healthy marriage (sadly getting rare), but even split still better to have both involved

OP, the "artificial wombs" won't really change anything much in relationship dynamics or general attitudes towards men and women in society, except if the leading "elites" become overwhelmingly homosexual by that point.

Here's also why - women's role in society never was fully about "ability to reproduce" because then you'd see elderly, post-menopausal women getting the same shaft by wider society, just like any women proven to be unable to bear the child. Nope, these women are still seen "above" you average man because the elites have "more purpose" of these women than they'd have for your average man, historically, whom they considered as expendable (and still do).

On the other hand, our modern day and age saw a huge shift even from that reproductive dynamics - so the elites at the tome overwhelmingly see women in prism of (sexual) pleasure - and these women are conditioned to flock to these very same men by numerous ways the society functions. Despite all that, it's not those in the elites who challenge the general ways society worked for all our written history, it's self-made men who rise to their ranks, but children, and especially children of their children, are prone to "join" the elite's view on maintaining the status quo.

With that being said - elite men already have, and are more and more prone to hire "artificial womb" - that's what commercial surrogacy in India, Ukraine and other places basically is, in a way. And yet nothing really changed in general attitudes.

If artificial wombs became reality today, a reality that yields comparable, much less to say a better outcome for a newborn than being born "the natural way", you'd rather see a shift as it becomes more and more affordable for regular folks, but not a shift you'd "hope" to see. It'd rather be more and more focused on either forcing on abortions and phasing out "natural pregnancy" completely, than it would be about maintaining children a woman doesn't want.

The most obvious thing is that employers would press governments to exclude natural pregnancy out of legislation and coverage over "woman's choice" to carry the pregnancy to term. Men would also not wish to see women "getting pregnant" and harass everyone around themselves with "a choice", this attitude would eventually be shared by the elite men, except for strong/ultra-religious conservatives. Women would also not wish to be pregnant either in such setting, given that other/better option is affordable. Women aren't really lining up to be surrogates for random strangers even today, so it's not like your average woman likes pregnancy for being pregnant. And ultimately, governments would wish to have it as a way to control BS about "reproduction" of couples who use it as a welfare check - want to claim yor check? Well, you have to fulfill a specific list of criteria in order to qualify. After all, governments would be even more efficient to "calibrate" a desired number of newborns for each new generation, by utilizing specific incentives and stuff, coupled with other laws and regulations that would simply make "natural birth" very uncommon and unlikely option anyways.

So, in order for "artificial wombs" to be a real change in a way to stop society from seeing men as "expendable" and women as "more valuable" to the elites, a real shift would have to be about relationships where these elites would wish to have (whatever kind of... I guess sexual?) relationship(s) with men over women. As stupid as it sounds.
