Well, to be fair, I wasn't planning on going to see it anyways, so boycotting it will be super easy :P

Might pirate a copy later, and put it in the massive folder of other movies I never bothered watching yet. I am saving them for a rainy month, or in case I break my legs and arms and can't do anything else or something. I dunno.

[–]CatManDontDo 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Your mom isn't still living?

[–]switchupFIN 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Niceee.

[–]mgtowolf 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Don't get the reference.

[–]CatManDontDo 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's an old reddit story about how some poor guy broke both of his arms when he was a teenager amd his mom realized he was all withdrawn and sullen. So she started giving him some relief with hand jobs.

It escalated to them having full on sex for a few years even after his arms were okay. Some psychologist analyzed them and wrote a paper about it or something then it ended up on reddit.

[–]mgtowolf -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, that's like some mr mercedies level shit in that one lol.

[–]GonnaNutInYourButt 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Captain Marvel probably wouldn't even be worth watching for me if it was on Netflix.

I'm more concerned about Endgame because I actually want to see it, but I want to see a movie about Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and Hulk. I don't know anything and don't really care to know anything about Captain Marvel.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know anything and don't really care to know anything about Captain Marvel.

Yeeeah. I refer people to my earlier post.

[–]Rethgil -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Always find it interesting when people make effort to post to the effect of 'lolz I dunno doesnt bother me whatever'.

Who takes the effort to log in, subscribe to the thread, read the post, then post they dont care....?

Not saying its the case this time, but its often feminists trying to derail a good post who do this. Are some people really so narcissistic they can only give a shit about things if it directly affects them? Do they not hold views about things they can understand are wrong but dont directly affect them? Or are they just tweenagers posting on their moms laptops...?

[–]mgtowolf 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, it is not really a lot of effort though. I mean we have these new fangled things called cookies, which means you can just click on your bookmark, see a thread, then type a few words. No need to type in my 70 character password, or subscribe or anything. Is that what it is like to use reddit on phones? I use a PC, so have no idea.

I personally just type what comes to my mind, if a topic interests me enough to click it, and actually produces a thought. Otherwise, I will just click the x and move on to the next thread.

[–]puncakeking89 62 points63 points64 points 7 years ago (45 children) | Copy Link

I’m honestly torn. I’m a big marvel fan and want to know what she can do for Avengers Endgame. Her powers and ability’s I mean. On the other the actress is a sexist bitch. I honestly don’t know what to do

[–]EricAllonde 50 points51 points52 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Early reviews nearly all say the film is boring and the character has no personality. That might help you make your decision...

[–]DJ-Roukan 30 points31 points32 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

From what I've heard, I'd rather watch paint dry.

I was honestly expecting something somewhat artistic. Not a shitty fps asset flip with grass.

[–]Clemicus 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And from what I heard, she needed a butt double 🤷‍♂️

[–]puncakeking89 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess I’ll just watch a review after it comes out to understand the gist of the movie

[–]disposable_me_0001 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well, if Alita is anything like Avatar, its going to be super bland and deriviative also.

[–]JcbAzPx 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Alita is nothing like Avatar. While it comes from a preexisting story, it is a good source and the movie does it justice. Definitely not bland.

[–]Halafax 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm unsure of how you jumped topic from Captain Marvel to Alita?

I quite liked Alita. I wasn't going to go because the reviews were bad, but I noticed the user score is quite high. Ah...

Anyhoo... It's fairly faithful to the manga, so your enjoyment might hinge on whether or not you can put up with a manga plotline. It is gorgeous, and most of the actors and actresses do a good job.

[–]disposable_me_0001 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Alita is being put forth as the alternative to the "man-hating" Marvel.

[–]Halafax 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh.

Alita is Alita. I'm amazed it got made at all, it's a fairly faithful attempt to turn a manga into a movie. This was never likely to grab a huge audience. It's got nothing to do with the Danvers movie.

The intent of captain marvel was never man hating, they just didn't manage Brie very well. Disney wants a bigger audience, that's it.

Women mostly aren't comic readers. Fuck, white male tweens are the core comic readers, period. It just so happens that white male tweens grow up, go on dates and have families. But the folks who are super interested in comic movies are still a very specific audience, and Disney hates that.

Had they handled it better, who knows? I strongly suspect comic book themes aren't going to appeal to most women for strictly darwinian reasons: it worked because it appeals to male tweens.

[–]Mac4491 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a big MCU fan too and I will be watching it because I don't really care what the main actor has said. I'm not in it for her, I'm in it for the characters. Also, them not getting my ticket won't make a difference so why bother with a boycott. I've seen overwhelming support for this movie everywhere except this particular sub. I'm sure the movie won't care about the thousands of potential $$$ they lost out on when they inevitably make over a billion anyway.

I might as well go and watch a movie that I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy rather than miss out and not be in the loop for when she is included in End Game.

[–]Koalachan 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I feel the same. Captain marvel is one of my favorite heroines, and I had previously liked Brie Larson in other films (Scott pilgrim), but now with the comments and all...

[–]guntermench43 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Huh, so you're the one guy keeping that series occasionally alive...

[–]degustibus 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So I took one for the team and read an article about her. She seems to have this massive chip on her shoulder because when she was 7 her parents divorced and she blamed her dad and was angry at his absence. The mom then took the two daughters down to Los Angeles in order to indulge the little girl's acting dream. Also sounded like she may have been the victim of sexual assault, though in Hollywood that can mean you got tricked by a producer.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also sounded like she may have been the victim of sexual assault, though in Hollywood that can mean you got tricked by a producer.

Translation: She willfully traded sex for fame and money.

[–]PrismMage 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Right now, Thanos has all 5 infinity gems. I don't like that Thor was portrayed as a threat to Thanos toward the end of Infinity Wars. Once Thanos had all the gems, all the Avengers combined were nothing more than an annoyance. In the infinity Gauntlet comic mini series, Captain Marvel didn't even make an appearance. If she did, it was so unmemorable I don't even remember it. I'm more interested in End Game, and I really really hope they don't mess it up. Thanos is so freaking powerful with all the gems in the comics.

[–]Koalachan 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I too wish to see nebula get the gauntlet.

[–]jostler57 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE SPOILER TAGS, SORRY! PLEASE AVOID MY COMMENT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE INFINITY WAR MOVIE!

They did severely diminish his power in the movies, though. He's the nerfed version of Thanos for the movies universe.

They had a choice to make:

More action, or less action. They chose more action, and I'm fairly happy they did.

I was super confused, at first, why Thanos, even if he didn't have any gems at all, would allow Iron Man to get even a scratch on his face, but it's all just because they nerfed his power, to make a more character building movie experience.

[–]johnDAGOAT721 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well i mean thanos is mad OP

[–]Cheveyo 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The most memorable thing about Carol Danvers is that she got her powers stolen and placed in a coma by Rogue.

[–]Hot4M 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Watch it eventually in a way where marvel will not make money from it. Borrow the blue ray from someone or something. Don't fall into Marvels trap that you must see it to understand endgame. It's a BS marketing ploy.

[–]puncakeking89 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To be fair the marketing is mostly just WOMEN ARE BEST but I do see your point. I’ll probably just watch it off some site

[–]Hot4M 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly, things like this where an outspoken star is being sexist towards men we need to boycott it so studios put a stop to the activism. If they lose money because of feminism maybe we can inspire them to be more about equality rather than open hatred towards men.

[–]puncakeking89 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, I actually went on a whole rant about this in a different post I made. I was honestly fuming

[–]biff64gc 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to see it. Mostly because of End Game, but also because I don't think it's right to condemn a movie because the lead actor is an idiot running their mouth. There are other people involved in the movie so why should one person ruin it for all of them. Wouldn't be the first time I call an actor crazy but like the movies they are in.

[–]guntermench43 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her powers and abilities? She's basically Superman with Starfire's starbolts instead of laser eyes and Spidey sense instead of frost breath. Also she can apparently time travel and isn't weak to magic or kryptonite.

[–]Armando_Munoz 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait for spoiler reviews on YouTube

[–]thwip62 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do what I'm going to do. Pay to see some movie that deserves it more, then walk in to the Captain Marvel showing.

[–]Ninja_Arena 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Watch it on Netflix and realize that in most films there is probably an asshat involved who will make money off you watching it so just watch it if you're a fan of marvel stuff

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

If you're going to watch it then pirate it.

Let none of these people make money, you're encouraging sexism otherwise.

[–]Ninja_Arena 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Disagree. People are encouraging pandering. Doubt I'll watch it as this point unless it's on tv.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

People are encouraging pandering

No idea what you mean by this.

[–]Ninja_Arena 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

By watching the movie. That's what's happening. Pandering to people as cheap marketing is being encouraged.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Makes some sense, however it does provide honest opinions on how awful the movie actually is. Given a man-hating bigot like Brie Larson people should have all the evidence they need.

[–]Ninja_Arena -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those two things are not connected.. man hating vs bad movie. Also, like I said or implied, no movies we can watch of we take pieces of shit being involved.

You do you. Good luck.

[–]Koalachan 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They have announced it will not be released on Netflix, and will be the first released solely on the Disney streaming service.

[–]Ninja_Arena 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, guess I won't see it then.

[–]Eastuss 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There are tons of actors who are basic pricks and you still go and watch their stuff, nah?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In movies with retarded Feminist plots they literally go "HERo" with racist sexist leads? Nah.

[–]Eastuss 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not really updated on what this person has said, and I've not seen the film. However this is the same argument with hitler's paintings or Kevin Spacey's series/films, you can appreciate the performances for what they are despite you condemn the artist for his beliefs, behaviours and actions.

[–]beautycel -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What actress isnt a sexist bitch lmao

[–]frustr8tion12 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I heard she doesn't want white men reviewing her movie.

Simple then, I won't buy it.

Why would I support someone who doesn't see me as human enough to provide perspective?

[–]CautiousPoisson 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is an elegant solution for those that want to make a statement with their cinema monies. They can still see a movie with a female lead without rewarding those in Hollywood who seem to want to bash men in return for SJW cred.

[–]factsd0ntlie 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm gonna pirate it , simple as that.

[–]EsraYmssik 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was gonna take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure...

[–]guntermench43 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. Or go on a Tuesday in a couple weeks when it'll be like $6, I'm ok with that.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it's an elegant solution.

[–]kaffirdog 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Make sure to add a review on rotten tomatoes

[–]dookandralley 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its the only movie playing this weekend in all the theaters in my area. I dont go to the movies though.

[–]NecroHexr 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Convinced my friend to skip this movie for a Korean flick! Was a blast and I enjoyed not paying my money to Larson and her lackies. It was a good movie too, probably better than CM considering the reviews it is getting.

Will watch it when the pirate boat sails in, and give it a fair chance, but that's all the courtesy I will extend.

[–]originalSpacePirate 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Korean cinema is really fucking good. They make some really deep and thought provoking films which is why their horror films are so good too

[–]liberalbutnotcrazy 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

I saw it last night in previews.

It’s feminist message was relatively well delivered with a couple of ham fisted moments.

This is not a man hating film

[–]SC2sam 35 points36 points37 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The actress is well established to be extremely man hating.

[–]jason2306 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah we're going to need some sources on that, what makes you say this?

[–]PM_ME_SCIENCE_PICS2 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Have you heard of google? I mean we have had this exact same topic a billion times already.

[–]jason2306 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's not how the burden of proof works

[–]PM_ME_SCIENCE_PICS 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are 100% right. But providing the same info over and over for people who are too lazy to google isn't fun either.

Here is my comment from last time.

[–]jason2306 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough linking previous comments if fine really, she seems a bit short sighted for sure. She seems to want to help women but does so while alienating men. In order to achieve true equality this is shitty strategy. The bringing more chairs thing just sounds rather naive.

[–]Mac4491 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That says nothing about the quality of the film, which to be honest is all I care about with this one. It's going to make billions anyway, boycotting only serves to disadvantage me by not getting to see it.

[+]duck1111 -28 points-27 points-26 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No bitch

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

It is absolutely ham fisted and the lead character openly hates men (white men in particular)

There's no such thing as "good" feminism.

Let her career die.

[+]duck1111 -48 points-47 points-46 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

It will make a billion easily. Gonna be sweet drinking your tears:)

[–]Dank-of-ENGLAND 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But tears are salty.

[–]lmpressivePlayer 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

lol no it won’t

[–]Mac4491 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Saving this comment for when you get proved wrong.

[–]PM_ME_SCIENCE_PICS 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Aren't there only like two superhero movies that made a billion?

[–]Mac4491 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All 3 Avengers films, Black Panther, Incredibles 2, Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War, Aquaman, Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight

You're a special kind of idiot if you think this movie isn't going to fail.

If for no other reason than Brie Larson has no ass.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LOL! I think we need to replace #CaptainMarvel with #CaptainTurkey!

[–]chambertlo 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Larson is sexist, racist and problematic. Not to mention basic with a flat ass. I wasn’t planning on seeing more Marvel superhero bullshit, but she just killed it for me completely.

[–]UUUU__UUUU 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not to mention basic with a flat ass.

I thought you were joking until I found this. It was a quick find though.

[–]NappyFlickz 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, there's no need. So many people are opting not to go see the movie anyway, so it takes care of itself.

[–]Mac4491 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It's going to make at least $1billion. You think the incredibly small amount of people claiming they won't see it will actually make a difference to the pockets of the filmmakers?

[–]PM_ME_SCIENCE_PICS 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

You didn't read the linked article, did you?

/edit: Your downvote proves you didn't.

[–]Mac4491 -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn't downvote you but I did read the article. I stand by what I said. This movie will be a huge success.

That whole Alita campaign sounds ridiculous. Plus, I've not heard great things about that movie and it's been out a while already. Apart from the negative nancy's here, I've heard nothing but good things from those who have seen Captain Marvel.

[–]PM_ME_SCIENCE_PICS 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I apologise for my assumption that you gave me the downvote then.

I was referring to your statement here:

You think the incredibly small amount of people claiming they won't see it will actually make a difference to the pockets of the filmmakers?

And this line of the original article:

The ensuing flood of complaints against both Larson and Marvel Studios resulted in a 28% drop in box office projections

I think 28% is a pretty big difference.

/edit: And Alita does have a 94% audience score on RT. This article put the movie on the menue for me at least. I already decided to pirate CM so it didn't to much there.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You mean like Ghostbusters was going to be a huge hit?

Feminist garbage plots that go out of their way to scream "Vagina Power!" and "HERo" are not enjoyable, the movie will flop.

[–]Mac4491 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The difference there is that the all female ghostbusters looked and was pure shit. To me, and many others, this looks pretty good. The feminist marketing on this one has been incredibly minimal in comparison to ghostbusters. And it’s a highly anticipated film in the MCU. It’s like Star Wars where they don’t even have to market it to sell tickets. It’ll sell regardless.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The difference there is that the all female ghostbusters looked and was pure shit. To me, and many others, this looks pretty good.

There's a reason there's a 28% reduced box office output for this movie - it looks like trash and is lead by a man-hating bigot.

The difference there is that the all female ghostbusters looked and was pure shit. To me, and many others, this looks pretty good.

I know nothing about the MCU but most people seem to think it's a last moment "AND THE VAGINA SAVES THE DAY!" twist before "Endgame", lots of outrage over her likely killing Thanos with her vagina.

It’s like Star Wars where they don’t even have to market it to sell tickets. It’ll sell regardless.

Star wars the Last Jedi earned $800 Million less than the force Awakens.

These movie makers are money grubbers they want every dime they can get the more money they lose out on the more unhappy they are.

[–]Mac4491 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know nothing about the MCU

Then with all respect you have no idea what you're talking about by saying the film will tank. It simply won't.

but most people seem to think

No they don't. Most people do not think of it like that at all. You're talking about a very small minority who think like that. Another very small minority are against the film because of the lead actress saying racist and sexist comments about white men.

The amended 28% reduction in estimated opening weekend box office earnings is pure damage control. If it actually does pretty bad, they can blame it on the "trolls", as they call them. If it doesn't do badly then they can say "Ha, you trolls are insignificant". It's a win-win for them.

Are you a fucking retard?

[–]BruceCampbell123 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Where did I say that you can't voice your opinion? I specifically said that we shouldn't be telling people what to do, e.g., boycott, and to allow others to make up their own minds. How hard is this?

I specifically said that we shouldn't be telling people what to do, e.g., boycott, and to allow others to make up their own minds. How hard is this?

Me: "I think you should boycott this because it's sexist"

You: "You're not allowed to say that! If anyone listens to your arguments it's because they don't think for themselves! All arguments against seeing this movie shouldn't be heard!"

Hint: Don't tell people what they can and can't say you braindead imbecile.

Perhaps you should try reasoning it out.

Take your own advice, don't tell others what to do.

If you care about men, if you're sick of people profiting of sexism, then you shouldn't see this movie. Brie Larson is a racist, sexist, bigot and anyone who sees this movie is supporting that along with the hamfisted feminist "Vagina power HERo" plot.

[–]BruceCampbell123 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're not actually pointing to where I've said anything that you've claimed I've said. So there's no further point in talking with you.

Before I go, I want you to know that it's poeple like you that give the rest of us a bad name. You're an ideologue, my friend. You're not actually interested in conversing with others if it doesn't further your idea or agenda. You don't seek to change minds or build bridges, you seek only destroy and bulldoze.

Until you're ready to start having conversations, you will continue to be lost and trapped within your own mind where you conjure up words by other poeple that they haven't actually said.

[–]rationalthought314 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'd rather make up my own mind, thank you very much. Boycotting a popcorn film about aliens fighting aliens seems a tad bit silly.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How does others having an opinion keep you from "Making up your own mind"?

Are scientific studies keeping you from making up your own mind too?

[–]rationalthought314 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

equating a commanding or rather demanding sentence over a movie with a scientific study...? You do see the difference, right? And the point is making a fuss over a superhero movie is rather silly. It just gives them what they want - attention. Lack of attention is far worse for feminists.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Whoa guys, we need to give them billions of dollars. By pointing out that they're sexists we're actually helping them."

Are you high?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

equating a commanding or rather demanding sentence over a movie with a scientific study...?

Both are viewpoints backed by an argument. Your "You're not allowed to make recommendations on things I disagree with!" point of view is duly noted.

You do see the difference, right?

There isn't one, you hate the idea of people giving recommendations on behavior, tough luck - free speech is a virtue.

And the point is making a fuss over a superhero movie is rather silly.

Yeah saying "Don't give money to a person who says White Men need not apply" is silly! We should give her billions so her and her Feminist producers know they are approved of! /s

It just gives them what they want - attention. Lack of attention is far worse for feminists.

Gee, I guess by pointing out all the feminists who are rampant bigots we're actually helping them! Seriously are you broken in the head?

Here's the options:

Destroy the movie financially - those making the movie are not happy about lost profits, feminists fall out of favor.

Support the movie and show that you hate Men - those making the movie are happy and now they have hundreds of millions of dollars to spend lobbying the government to enforce their (and your) hatred of Men.

Hmmm what is better for feminists "Millions of dollars" or "Pointing out that Feminists hate men and are racists"....

[–]csgardner 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't really want Alita mixed up in the political crap, but Alita: Battle Angel is actually pretty great. You should go see it.

Most of the critics' complaints about it are kind of bizarre. Mostly they boil down to, "This movie is from a larger universe, and they didn't answer all questions in this movie." Yeah, no crap. Well, that Hugo was miscast, but I agree on that one. Everyone else is awesomely spot-on though.

[–]vhisic1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

nah im off the cinemas with my wife on the weekend to see it. Not going to let 1 actors words change my desire to see this. She shouldn't cancel out everyone else's work, she shouldn't cancel out a decade of story building and she wont. not for me anyway, you let her control how you think though. Shes doesnt even want you to see the movie.

[–]Voidrith 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not necessarily, though I have noticed the ones that market everything on feminism / grrrrl power type things (see: new ghostbusters) end up being very poorly received.

Alien, Silence of the Lambs, Million Dollar Baby, Kill Bill, Three Billboards, Fargo, Titanic, V for Vendetta, I Tonya, Carrie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Zero Dark Thirty...

[–]CatManDontDo 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Disagree. Rogue One was amazing. Also several TV shows I really like had or have a female lead. In Plain Sight, Covert Affairs, Timeless, and Killjoys just to name a few.

[–]ChristopherLove 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Veep is another great show.

[–]guntermench43 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Disagree, Rogue One was garbage. The characters were terrible and the majority of the movie was boring. The only good part was the Vader scene, and even then they fucked that up by having Leia's ship participating in the battle.

There being good female led shows I can agree with, but not that one. Not any of the new Star Wars shit really.

Don't go see it if you really want but if you're an MCU fan there's absolutely no point in boycotting this film.

It's going to make $1billion. Easy. Brie Larson could've been a convicted murderer and it'd make $1billion.

The incredibly small minority of people boycotting this film will make a very negligible impact on the ticket sales.

If you're already an MCU fan then the only person you're impacting by not seeing it is yourself as you won't be 100% in the loop for Endgame.

[+]luckyfeelin -7 points-6 points-5 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That Jack Proboscis guy is an alt-right nut so connecting this to him makes the anti side just as political as the pro side and the movie/Brie Larson. There's a lot of that on the boycott side. You don't have to be right wing or a Trump supporter to be opposed to political correctness and SJWs.

[–]chambertlo 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh noes! He is “Alt-right”. Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

[–]luckyfeelin 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The left is one big man hating idealogy, Feminism is a leftist movement for a reason.

[–]luckyfeelin 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The movement against movies being political shouldn't also be political, it should just be people that want good movies. That's all Im saying.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+]disposable_me_0001 -12 points-11 points-10 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Can someone summarize what the fuss is about? So what if we have a female let movie? There are like 10 other male led ones. Is it because the Lead actress made some moronic remark about white men?

[–]SirSkeptic 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nobody here has a problem with female-led movies. We loved Alien, Fargo, Silence of the Lambs, etc.

What we tend to hate is politically driven, man-bashing films. I suspect if there was ever a film that had a male sympathetic antagonist going around killing and genitally mutilating all the stupid, feckless females, we wouldn't like it either.

[–]chocoboat 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We're about 20 movies and 11 years into a Marvel storyline that's all coming to a conclusion with Avengers Endgame in April.

For political reasons, Disney insisted on having a Marvel movie with a female lead character first, and then inserting her into the Avengers storyline at the last minute. They start marketing the new female character as being more powerful than any of the other previous heroes, and it sounds like there's potential that Endgame will be ruined by having this last minute addition come in and save the day.

For the role, they cast an actress who talks about how she doesn't care about men's opinions and wants fewer men interviewing her. Then the trailer comes out and it's not impressive, she seems stonefaced and appears to exhibit no emotion, and seems to be miscast in the role (or maybe it's just a bad trailer).

The people worried about this movie being bad and potentially ruining the series had no problem with Wonder Woman or Black Panther, and would love to see Black Widow or Scarlet Witch get their own movies. And a Captain Marvel movie would be fine too... just not with this timing, this actress, and for political reasons instead of storyline reasons.

[–]CatManDontDo 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also something about how there are too many film critics that are also men? At this point I honestly can't be assed to care what any vapid Hollywood person has to say.
