I don't idolize it. My best friend might have fit your description before he got busy working on his PHD- he's smart and funny and fit- women throw themselves at him, and he's never felt like staying with one for very long. I don't look up to him for this, or down. I like him because he's smart, funny, a loyal friend, and has more integrity than anyone I've ever met. Most of his friends(men and women) tease him about the women, although as you point out, I think we are supposed to be high-fiving him and calling him dude or something. I should mention that he does NOT sleep with women as a sport, but because he likes women and women like him.

I've also met men like you are describing, and all I can say is women: they treat guys like shit too. They're competitive, they're condescending, they try to tear down everyone around them. Rather than look up to them for getting a girl in bed, I think the men in that situation tend to be disgusted with the girl for validating the asshole.

It's not true. It used to be, something like fifty years ago, but currently, sleeping around is looked down on, whether you're a man or a woman. The myth that people still look up to other men who are promiscuous is still around, but very few people actually subscribe to it personally - they just think everybody else does. I don't even consider it a sport. The utter failure of pick up artists has shown that it just comes down to the sheer number of women you interact with. The only "skill" involved in this "sport" is not screwing things up with a girl that already likes you for whatever reason.

I went through a promiscuous phase, I wasn't a "player" and never deceived anyone, I just went on a self-improvement kick and apparently women found that sexy.

That being said, I used to be jealous of guys who slept around. When I did it myself, I realized it's really not that great. Now I'm well into a year dry spell because I felt the need to slow down.

I've only really witnessed it in high school, when people are just getting their sea legs when it comes to sex.

You see it with other things like driving/owning a car or having a job. Once people realize this new, adult aspect of life is great but not anything special, there's no idolatry anymore. Granted I'm not part of a fraternity, where the "bro" mentality from high school might persist.

I do still see inside and outside high school men denigrated for choosing to not be very sexually active, or not always being sexually available. Heck, I had a woman throw herself at me, with the only indication she had for me being interested in her was me acknowledging her presence, and when I rebuffed her she accused me of being gay.

I think its more the fact that we are wired to admire alpha males. Ironically alpha males sleep with more women because the women see that the other men and women admire them. Guys usually applaud the social skills that it takes to be a ladies man rather than the fact that they are heart breakers. I think that is where the confusion lies.

Usually when it's said that a man is sleeping with women for "sport," it implies that he's a player. I definitely don't idolize players. I find them to be somewhere between annoying and offensive. As for men who have many partners for whatever reason but are not players, I don't have any problem with them. If that's what they like, so be it. But I don't idolize them for it either.

Male friends tended to dislike me when I got dates, they assumed I was somehow using these women or less deserving than them.

I think dating is fun, but at the same time rules out relationships which are more important. So dating is a bit like drinking, fun and enviable but incompatible with more serious pursuits.

I have an old friend who has gotten with a lot of gals. If I had to put a number on it, I'd say probably 40 or 50... And that's not him just talking, he doesn't bullshit, 40 is a conservative estimate. BUT he has fewer sex-hours logged than his friends. Most of his conquests have been single-night engagements with women that a sober version of himself might not go after. He doesn't stay in relationships more then a couple months, tops. So he's gotten more gals naked, but in all he actually gets laid less than, say, our mutual friend who is married.

I love him, but this is a dude who truly does not give a fuck where he puts it. He has a mental checksheet in his head to bang at least one girl from "every race". His words. He was so happy when he checked off "Asian". He was less happy about checking off "dude".

As an aside, in my experience, guys who talk a lot about getting laid (times they have fucked, girls they would fuck, ways they have fucked, etc.) generally get laid a LOT less than guys who keep that information to themselves. Probably because dudes who are sexually frustrated can't get fucking out of their minds so keep flapping their mouth.

So no. I don't idolize these guys. Plus I just think bragging about sex is crass and tacky.

Men and women are not sexually equal. Men have a far greater sex drive. Also women can always be sure that the baby they give birth to is theirs, men can't be sure without a paternity test.

That doesn't mean that I endorse infidelity in men and frown upon the same in women. I'm just pointing out that both the sexes are not equal.

The reason people idolize or at least respect men who sleep around it that it is hard. I persoanlly give a man props for fucking alot of girls because I could not do so. How much a women has sex has no bearing on my opinion of her whatsoever.
