Why do people not realize that you can not shift the burden of your own safety onto random strangers?
Nor that men don't owe them anything?

If it's getting dark and i'm walking by myself, the last thing I want to do is extend how long i'm out by myself by stopping and waiting for every single woman to pass and get ahead of me so that I don't hurt her feelings or make her uncomfortable.

This might come as a shock to women.. but.. if you're walking alone at night then maybe take the following precautions:

1) Don't have your earphones in and your music up loud.
2) Don't walk with your head down scrolling through your twitter / buzzfeed / facebook stream.
3) Be aware of anyone around you. If you think someone is following you.. cross the road and then cross back a little further down the road.. if they follow your actions then look for help.

Its not god damn rocket science.. but hey.. I forget whom i'm talking about.. implying that women should take responsibility for anything these days is tantamount to 'victim blaming' apparently...

Either walk with a friend, bring pepper spray or whatever makes you feel better, but putting the responsibility of your feelings on others it just simply stupid.

Why doesn't this idiot just introduce herself? If she's uncomfortable being out after dark, then it might be helpful for her to know the people around her instead of making snap judgements based on gender. If anyone were going to attack her, it would likely be the creeper hiding in the bushes and not the people who are walking on the sidewalk in plain sight. There is safety in numbers. It would be ironic if every man went out of his way to avoid getting near her, none of her girlfriends were around, and she was attacked or kidnapped as a result of being alone and vulnerable.

a) It's ok not to feel safe if you are out on the road at night by yourself regardless of your gender.

b) People with good intentions crossing the street for you isn't going to increase your safety in real terms. You may feel safer, but the risk of being assaulted by someone with bad intentions remains the same.

c) You are also much safer walking alone at night with two strangers right behind you then you are at home spending time with your boyfriend or husband or some other guy you know.

They should keep in mind that 80% of violent crime is directed at MEN NOT WOMEN, so women are four times safer walking down a street than men. Moreover, violent crime has been dropping for decades now and is at an all-time low. Except in black neighborhoods where "defund the police" caused a spike in murders but that is also 90% against black men, not women, by other black men.

now it's getting dark by 4pm can black people please be more considerate and remember to not walk right behind white people, either walk around us and go past us or cross the road and hang back. when it's a really long road like Otley road it's hard to feel safe when you have two black people walking right behind you when you're by yourself. you might not think a white person walking in front of you feels unsafe, but please just be more considerate... yes you might be a nice black person, but we don't know you and don't know your intentions.
