Bravo for the group for taking action.

Sad that we've reached this point.

[–]HotZone_ 49 points50 points51 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"This flyer was created by a small group of California mothers of sons, including some whose sons have been falsely accused, to raise awareness of the propensity of college and university disciplinary panels to find male students guilty of sexual misconduct, often with no evidence except the accuser's claim, and frequently in the presence of tangible evidence to the contrary," said Cynthia Garrett, an attorney and board member of FACE.

It's sad that so few women are willing to stand up for male rights until their own sons are affected. Still, this is progress.

Sadder still that this group recognized that the only way they could do this would be to have women hand out the flyers.

God forbid men stand up for their own rights. That would be misogyny!

What's needed is the equivalent of an ACLU with the capability to independently and forcibly investigate university star chambers like these rape tribunals we are hearing about, and the capability to pursue thoroughly committed lawsuits against universities where due process rights are being thrown aside, and men continue to face gender discrimination from ideologically extreme and agenda-driven administrations.

[–]onyonn 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I used to give money to the ACLU -- back when they seemed to support free speech and due process. You know, civil rights.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PLANTS 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I bothered the ACLU about why they didn't have a men's section. They never responded.

[–]Sinsilenc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

because they are a hard core feminist org...

I would avoid any sexual contact on campuses, seems no matter what you do, even if you have consent. You're still the bad guy. sigh

I hope the students who are wrongfully expelled sue the hell out of these Universities.

Well, it probably doesn't even matter whether you had sex or not the way this is going.

[–]TechnoSam_Belpois 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

For now, it seems as if it's been limited to cases where sex did actually occur.

But I agree that it's better to be safe than sorry.

I'm getting ready to start a special project for one of my classes, I'm probably going to be teaching kids basic programming. From the way my prof was talking, I should never ever be alone with the kids, because people would think I'm a pedophile, just because I'm a man.

That said, there should be enough people around that I don't need to worry, but it's really sad that we have to have things this way.

Was it for Rolling Stone's Jacky? I got too disgusted with that one to keep up. The way the story was described, I'd at least have trouble believing all the men she accused of rape had sex with her, if any did.

[+]AndaliteBandit 10 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

No legal action could be brought against the men Jackie accused because they didn't exist. The story was a complete fabrication, including even the mere existance of the accused rapists.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PLANTS 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The college took action against the accused fraternity, which still would dramatically affect their college careers and also exposed them to vigilantes. That's part of how messed up the kangaroo courts are. They impose improper sanctions upon people that they fail to properly try or to properly protect leading up to trail.

[–]acelister 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wasn't that the one that was completely fabricated?

[–]PM_ME_UR_PLANTS 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As far as I know, and the college still attacked the fraternities.

[–]WanderingRonin88 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, pretty much. Probably what they are planning on to be honest.

[–]tallwheel 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Excellent. The best course of action for college men at this point is to know how best to protect themselves. Too many guys are clueless and think, 'I'm a good guy. This could never happen to me.'

[–]jeremygolan 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Im glad to see that some women are standing by us.

[–]Tmomp 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nothing about men's rights suggests it's a men's group. They aren't "standing by us." "Us" already includes women.

[–]jeremygolan 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

perhaps im naitve, but ive seen few women (outside reddit) that consider the situation unjust.

[–]STEM_logic 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You realise that an end to hookups is exactly what the sex-negative feminists want, right?

This campaign is the exact result they've been subconsciously looking for.

This should be leaflet-dropped by drone on to every college campus in America.

[–]Honeycone -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This could easily reach the front page if the title stated that mothers were doing this.

Instead of wasting their time and energy teaching men how to fight accusations of sexual assault, why don't they teach men what consent is? Anything less than an enthusiastic, completely sober, "YES!" to sex is not consent. The way the article was written it seems like these guys don't know that alcohol negates consent? Or that just because someone is your girlfriend it doesn't give you automatic consent? And what does the text have to do with anything? If she was drunk during that conversation then that isn't proof of consent..

[–]StarsDie 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Anything less than an enthusiastic, completely sober, "YES!" to sex is not consent."

You just opened my eyes to the fact that my girlfriend and I have raped each other hundreds of times. Thanks.

[–]Desk0 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

my girlfriend and I have raped each other hundreds of times.

No, YOU raped you're girlfriend hundreds of times! /s

[–]SirGrump 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So if they both drank, and both were drunk, who raped who?

[+]Zoidbergluver -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's really not a hard concept guys. If you don't want to be accused of rape, make a million percent sure you have consent. Double and triple check that shit. ESPECIALLY if it's a one night stand situation. And if there is alcohol/drugs/ anything that would impair either partners judgement, then you can't be sure they are in their right mind to give consent. Any other questions? TLDR- if a person has any reason to suspect that their partner does not want to have sex or has their judgement impaired, it's better to stop than to rape someone.

[–]SirGrump 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You didn't really answer my question. If two people get drunk, both not thinking straight, and have sex, who raped who?

I'm not asking you what the case is when only one partner is drunk, I'm asking what the case is when both are.

Also, it's pretty silly to tell men not to learn to fight accusations in an unjust system.

[–]Peter_Principle_ -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You didn't really answer my question.

A message about rape and consent that it only wants to direct at men? I think it has inadvertently answered your question: the man will be the guilty party, of course.

[–]SirGrump 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't want an implied answer though I suppose you're right.

[–]Peter_Principle_ -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anything less than an enthusiastic, completely sober, "YES!" to sex is not consent.

Do you honestly not realize how STUPID and DANGEROUS this idea is? Or are you one of those types who is sociopathically OK with putting innocent people in prison?
